To ask how focussed you WFH people are today?

Fellow WFH'er here.

Usually quite disciplined with completing tasks and rewarding with mini break but today:

No focus
Lack of concentration
Easily distracted
Loads to do but no motivation to do it

If you're WFH today how focussed are you today? And in general on other days?

I'm normally very focused, but struggling today. It's been an incredibly busy week and I've got a lot going on with family that's take jhg my mind off work. Also have the extra distractions of the doorbell going constantly with deliveries and my Christmas 'to do' list running through my head!

TheBestSpoon · 03/12/2021 13:38

Not very, but that's because toddler DS and DH are home as DS was sick in the night. He's now fine and DH is looking after him, but my desk is right in the middle of the house, so inevitably I'm getting interrupted as he doesn't understand why he can't just sit on my knee and watch Pip and Posy on YouTube!

DelurkingAJ · 03/12/2021 13:39

I have excellent days and not so good days. Today…hmm…but DH is working tonight so if I’ll more than make it up and my boss largely doesn’t care when I work so long as I do!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 03/12/2021 13:40

Morning has been good but I'm flagging now, which is bad as have a lot to do!

TheSpiral · 03/12/2021 13:40

Incredibly unfocused, but I have been all week because I am getting over Covid. Today I have done almost nothing. But I am self employed so I am only letting myself down!

Constance1 · 03/12/2021 13:41

I'm more focussed but in shorter bursts than I would be in the office, but actually get more done wfh as not interrupted by other people!

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 03/12/2021 13:43

I'm OK today but had a couple of days this week when I've struggled. I'm looking forward to a break at Christmas, I think I just need a change of routine.

Sn0tnose · 03/12/2021 13:43

Not at all. And I’ll be working over the weekend to make up for it. I’m excessively productive in the office. I just can’t do it at home.

SpookyScarySkeletons · 03/12/2021 13:44

I'm sad.

Got absolutely loads done this morning then just before lunch break I started pulling together my to do list for next week and I'm already on the second A4 page. Could actually cry at how many hours I'm going to have to be working when all I want to do is start to enjoy December.

Word of warning- nhs payroll is not fun when you pay early in December.

Xiaoxiong · 03/12/2021 13:45

@SummerHouse doomscrolling is where you just keep scrolling endlessly through mumsnet covid threads, twitter, instagram, bbc "live" newsfeeds, allowing yourself to progressively be dragged down into a state of gloom and what would be panic if you had enough energy to panic...but you don't. It's not something you want to start doing (if you're not doing it already!)

Wauden · 03/12/2021 13:45

Am in my lunch hour now. This week it has been off and on with motivation and today I had to really force myself to finish a task so I said do it and then eat lunch.
and

LookItsMeAgain · 03/12/2021 13:46

I'm usually quite focussed but today not only is it Friday but it's also Free Practice (F1 fan here) for the Saudi Arabia GP so I'm pumped up for that. I can also see Christmas looming (in a positive way) in the not to distant future so I'm probably counting the days left until I finish for the Christmas holidays.
So...today...not so focussed though I did actually get quite a bit done this morning...I feel the afternoon might not be as productive! Grin

DriftingBlue · 03/12/2021 13:47

I already put in my hours for the week by yesterday so today I just need to show to some meetings. My work doesn’t really
care when I work.

Gliblet · 03/12/2021 13:47

@CornishGem1975

I've done F all today. No motivation at all. Doubt it would be much better if I were in the office.
This is precisely why I don't worry too much about the odd day when I'm struggling to get motivated.

I work my arse off the rest of the time, well over and above, so if I have the odd day where I file things, answer a few emails/chat to people who need a chat, and am on hand to catch any massive problems that pop up I'm not going to feel bad about it. Being at home doesn't really seem to make much of a difference vs. being in the office.

Nomorecoco · 03/12/2021 13:48

Not at all. I'm on day 3 waiting for my pcr test result and getting annoyed so cba! Bring on 5pm

DiamondBright · 03/12/2021 13:49

I'm generally just as productive wfh as I am in the office, I do take breaks but there's none of the general chat and disruptions of the office so it balances out.

I'm struggling a bit today, health issues, so I'm about done for today my out of office is on (pointed at a shared mailbox that's being monitored) and the team knows to phone me if they need me.

Everything that needed to be done today has been done and I'm not holding anyone up.

peachgreen · 03/12/2021 13:50

I'm ill and just can't concentrate so have agreed with my boss that I'll take a half day and make it up next week when I'm feeling better.

DiamondBright · 03/12/2021 13:53

@DriftingBlue

I already put in my hours for the week by yesterday so today I just need to show to some meetings. My work doesn’t really care when I work.
Mine is the same, as long as work gets done and I'm around for essential meetings, I can start early/finish early, start late/finish late, work weekends etc.
GrolliffetheDragon · 03/12/2021 13:56

@manysummersago

I’m impressed with the honesty! Most wfh threads have people insisting they are so much more productive than when in the office Grin
Oh I am. Even with losing the will to carry on today, in the office there'd have been stopping for a chat, somebody bringing cake/biscuits etc in then a big fuss making tea, then sitting round and chatting, various difficult people phoning up and keeping me on the line far longer than needed, more chatting, having to sort out the photocopier/printer/laptop/tablet for somebody as everyone immediately forgets everything they know about how they work when I walk in the room.

Then somebody needs teabags for a meeting but they're far too busy to go so I go and that's another 20 minutes gone...

And there was always the end of day crisis where I would spend an hour fixing somebody else's problem.

Don't know how anybody else is managing but I get far more of my own work done than I've managed for years... Grin

Nidan2Sandan · 03/12/2021 14:00

I was really productive this morning & actually managed to finish all of my days work by 12pm.

I should say though, I have struggled to motivate this week. I havent had any time off work (other than weekends) since August and I'm not off work till 24th dec. So i think I'm just hitting a wall..

I'm sat here watching Mary Berry & eating chocolate and its doubtful that I'll be any more productive this afternoon

SummerHouse · 03/12/2021 14:01

Thank you @xiaoxiong that is so exactly what I am doing that seeing it set out so clearly, I am going to stop! Although it's quite addictive... just one more Corona thread... Confused

BoredZelda · 03/12/2021 14:02

I manage with focus fine in the mornings. Lose it mostly after lunch. Same when I’m in the office actually. My best, most productive time is usually between 7pm and midnight.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 03/12/2021 14:04

I'm self employed. I don't have the luxury of being unproductive.

Coffeepot72 · 03/12/2021 14:06

I WFH 3 days per week and go into the office for the other two. No matter where I am, I’m always more productive in the mornings and less so in the afternoons. And I don’t think anyone is at their most focussed on Friday afternoons!

BestIsWest · 03/12/2021 14:10

I had a busy morning but I’m supposed to be doing some self development stuff this afternoon which I just cannot motivate myself for.
