Would you date a binman?

Inspired by another thread about being a binman as a career.

You meet a guy on a night out or OLD. Seems nice enough and nice looking, all good. Tells you he's a binman.

YABU - immediate turn off
YANBU - give him a chance

Db was a bin man from 19-62.

He managed to get married and have children. He’s got 10 O levels and 3 A levels. Slim and fit.

Stop being snobby

dustofneptune · 02/12/2021 09:55

I couldn't care less what someone does for a living, unless what they do for a living suggests they are ruthless, snobby, insanely materialistic, narcissistic, savagely competitive, etc. Those things are major turn-offs for me.

grapewine · 02/12/2021 09:55

This place sometimes. Why the hell wouldn't I - if I liked him enough.

"The thread the OP refers to is regarding a pp about the posters friend dismissing her sons job choice when he said he wanted to be a binman. Consensus was people would want their children to 'aim higher' than a bin man."

Thanks KenDodd, at last someone gets the idea behind the thread! Grin

I wanted to see if the snobbery behind women not wanting their sons aspire to become binman transferred over to women not wanting to date binman. Just a little social experiment people, no need to take it so personally!

Too right I would. One of the guys who comes on recycling day is seriously hot
Don't really care what people do for a job as long as it's not something like MLM and they have a job

ClosdesMouches · 02/12/2021 09:56
Hmm
TheFoundations · 02/12/2021 09:57

Would you rather date a refuse collector or a snob, @TrishM80?

grapewine · 02/12/2021 09:57

@TheFoundations

Would you rather date a refuse collector or a snob, *@TrishM80*?
Fair question.

Foreverlexicon

It depends how you define ‘success’.

You talk about ambition, career progression, promotion.
Not everyone views life solely in this way.

Thankfully.

We have a very glamorous b8n lady in our town. Looks incredibly fit and tanned and always made up. The crews wear heavy duty uniforms and can't imagine they go home in them so they wont be smelling. All ribbish is sealed and goes straight into the cart.

NinaDefoe · 02/12/2021 10:00

Thanks KenDodd, at last someone gets the idea behind the thread! grin

Might have been helpful to make the ‘idea’ clear in your OP.

21dolly · 02/12/2021 10:01

Unlike everyone else that's not for me. There's actually loads of careers that a guy could have that I wouldn't be interested in.
Personal trainer being no1😂

Bigoldhag · 02/12/2021 10:02

My friends husband is a binman- hea kn bloody good wages, is HGV qualified, has great leave and benefits through work, is home by lunchtime most days and there for doing equal parts of childcare and housework and gets insanely good christmas tips.

Its a fab job and anyone who sneers at it is a total twat.

Bigoldhag · 02/12/2021 10:03

He is on*

QueeniesCroft · 02/12/2021 10:03

Where I live, the refuse collector jobs are very highly sought after- it's secure, you get a decent pension and the hours are decent. I'd be delighted if one of my boys got a job like that.
MrCroft would take a view on me dating a binman, but if he was ever out of the picture, I definitely would. I might even have one in mind!

depremesnil · 02/12/2021 10:03

So you didn't meet a bin man on OLD, you're just making it up?

sqirrelfriends · 02/12/2021 10:04

Yeah, why not?

Our bin men are lovely guys, DS is obsessed and they always take the time to say hello.

It's never going to pay a fortune but not every job can and imo as long as they work income shouldn't come into it.

Summertime16 · 02/12/2021 10:06

hell yes, the bin men/ refuse collectors around by us are also in charge of the gritting during the winter months. They are allowed to grit their streets before the main routes so that's an added bonus!

wheresmyshoe · 02/12/2021 10:06

Yes, in fact I follow a binman on Twitter. He's in ridiculously good physical shape, always immaculately dressed and.... he's a highly respected amateur botanist with a zest for life that is utterly inspirational. The man is pure joy.

MorningStarling · 02/12/2021 10:06

No, not necessarily because of the job itself but because of the early starts.

OhGiveUp · 02/12/2021 10:07

I would yes.
He's doing a honest days work.
I wouldn't date mine though because she's a woman, so it would be a bit strange.

Allthatglittersandgold · 02/12/2021 10:07

JOB.

Thesearmsofmine · 02/12/2021 10:08

Yes! Some of our binmen are pretty attractive actually and a laugh too. Plus it’s a regular secure job.

EncroachingLoaf · 02/12/2021 10:08

One of our bin men is hot as hell so yes of course I would. If I was single Blush
