DS16 walking like Frankenstein so that he doesn't crease his new trainers

Is this a thing now? DS says he can't flex his feet as his trainers will get creases in them and they won't look so good. The trainers in question are Air Force 1's which he bought with his own money from his Saturday job. He's been walking around the house like this for 2 days now.

AIBU or is this completely bonkers? And does anybody else have stories of their teens doing mad things that they can share? Thanks.

If they are creasing, they might have too much depth and an insole might help bring his foot up?

dollygirl12 · 30/11/2021 10:54

Once your AF1s are creased it's all over!
Especially if you have the white ones. I don't blame him for trying not to crease them😂

Ringsender2 · 30/11/2021 10:55

Bless. And ha ha ha ha!

home2012 · 30/11/2021 11:06

But surely the point of trainers is that they are comfortable

''You must be 90!''

Only kidding... :)

To teens, Comfort has no place.
I used to freeze as wouldn't wear a warm coat in the winter. Would never do that now.
Uber tight jeans done up with a coat hanger, and uncomfy shoes/trainers are all part of growing up, I think

Tractordiggerdump · 30/11/2021 11:24

When I was young, new, smooth shoes were an embarrassment and the more dressed the better. I remember swapping a pair of doccys with someone specifically for this reason 😂

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 30/11/2021 11:28

That’s hilarious OP

I guess at least he’s learning the value of money

Lavender24 · 30/11/2021 11:32

I laughed out loud at this because I was an obsessive kid and I used to do this 😂 Along with refusing to walk on any grass and putting shoe whitener on my Nikes 😂

Otherpeoplesteens · 30/11/2021 11:34

Why would people wear trainers indoors if they're trying to preserve them?

I'd just keep asking if he's shit himself.

Lolololololol · 30/11/2021 12:14

@GallbladderWoes

At least he's not wearing them two sizes too small to stop the creasing, apparently that's a "thing" too 😂
This is what my DS does 🙄 crazy! I get told, fashion is pain....

Is this a relatively recent UK(?) thing?

AnybodyAnywhere · 30/11/2021 14:47

@HollysBush

We used to call our trainers ‘bumpers’ in the 80’s. Where are you from AnybodyAnywhere ?
@HollysBush

At that time I was from Gravesend in Kent 😊

WillowintheUK · 30/11/2021 16:43

I’m central Scotland and we called the kind that looked like Converse High Tops bumpers. This was on the 60s.

lifeinlimbo2020 · 30/11/2021 16:48

Haha. My DS did this when he first started wearing them. Then we had plastic things to put inside so they didn't crease. Now he owns several pairs he's got over it Grin

TheShoeLady · 30/11/2021 16:59

I paint on Converse and Nike Air Force trainers as a job! I always try to avoid painting near the side of the toes in case the design creases - hadn’t realised the kids would be so careful with them Grin

No, I’m nearly 50 and my friend and I were the only sensible ones to wear a coat. The rest of our acquaintances would go without and then have to wait for us while we queued up at the coat check to drop off and pick up our coats on a night out!
Muzzyarker · 30/11/2021 17:09

My teenagers treat their Nike trainers as though their life depends on keeping them pristine. They hardly wear some pairs. My daughter irons hers.!!!!

TheMarzipanDildo · 30/11/2021 17:14

This is very funny, but trying to ruin your shoes before you wear them in public is definitely weirder!

2bazookas · 30/11/2021 17:23

Welcome to the world of teen.

How do you iron trainers?
TillyTopper · 30/11/2021 17:50

That's hilarious! Sorry I know it doesn't help your issue, but it made me laugh. I'd ignore and let him crack on (two late teen DS who don't care about AF1's)

LavenderAskew · 30/11/2021 18:21

@AtomicBlondeRose

I remember people standing on each other's toe to get DMs worn in properly! And the pain until they were broken in...but then the comfort afterwards was worth it. And shiny white trainers were DEATH.
Ha!! Yes I recall that - I can also share the pearl of wisdom that's it's quite hard to stand on your own toe.

I think my teenagers might be broken as they haven't heard of this, or possibly no crease isn't a think in Ireland.

DappyApple · 30/11/2021 18:41

This made me 😂.

Dd has the same trainers and did exactly the same. She looked like she had a pineapple wedged up her backside!

She got those crease guard things, don’t know if she actually used them though, but I can confirm she now walks normally!

diddl · 01/12/2021 08:58

I'm nearer 60 than anything & I do remember sometimes going without a coat on a pubcrawl night out as there was nowhere to put one & we ran between pubs & got a taxi home.

I was thinking more about teens & school.

A coat was part of the uniform & there was no way girls wouldn't have worn one to get to/from school.

That said, we all had a place to hang it up!

Same where I am in Germany-kids often walk/bike to school & wouldn't do so without a coat!

megletthesecond · 01/12/2021 09:09

did there's often nowhere for pupils to put coats in secondary schools and they have to take them off and carry them in corridors. It's a pain.
