DS16 walking like Frankenstein so that he doesn't crease his new trainers

Is this a thing now? DS says he can't flex his feet as his trainers will get creases in them and they won't look so good. The trainers in question are Air Force 1's which he bought with his own money from his Saturday job. He's been walking around the house like this for 2 days now.

AIBU or is this completely bonkers? And does anybody else have stories of their teens doing mad things that they can share? Thanks.

Oh god I hate this obsession with trainers, it's nuts

Ducksurprise · 30/11/2021 08:23

Yy to the shame of new shoes Grin how things change.

My current teens also have good quality branded trainers/jogging suits Grin which are not exercised in at all. Cheap stuff for exercising.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 30/11/2021 08:24

I can't really point the finger. When I've put on newly cleaned jeans or trousers and I need to pick something up from under the table or something, I move like an arthritic septuagenarian because I don't want to stretch the knees by bending them.

Blueemeraldagain · 30/11/2021 08:27

I teach in at boys’ school where they are allowed to wear black trainers so can confirm this is 100% a thing. I call them little penguins as they waddle around Grin

Orpheline · 30/11/2021 08:31

Joey Essex used to buy his trainers a size too small, to prevent creasing

NeverSurrender · 30/11/2021 08:37

I used to scuff my new trainers up as a teen in the early 90s so they wouldn't look new! How times have changed 🤣

wtaf37 · 30/11/2021 08:38

Thank you, OP! this has made my day

This drives me mad! They literally look like cast members of The Walking Dead! Thankfully, I’ve managed to persuade my youngest that skater chic/quirky is in, and that Vans and Converse are better the more creased they are.
ChiefAdjusterOfRubensShorts · 30/11/2021 08:44

Grin My DS(15) is also doing this with a pair of Air Jordan’s he bought himself!

He’s got size 12 feet and looks ridiculous!

I bought him some of the crease guard things off eBay to put in them when he’s not wearing them which seems to help with the creases.

oakleaffy · 30/11/2021 08:54

This must be a new 'Thing'.... Not getting creases in his Trainers? haha! That is going to be almost impossible unless he hovers..
Trainers crease!
@Jacaranda75 Tell your boy about the trainers being sold at Sothebys..
Maybe a Christmas prezzie?

$88,000 ..He'd not want to be creasing these!

JustDanceAddict · 30/11/2021 08:55

@HeronLanyon

I remember more doing the opposite - trying desperately to break in eg doc martins etc - the shame of them looking new !
Yes, this is what remember!!
AnybodyAnywhere · 30/11/2021 08:59

I remember when I was a teen, late 60s/early 70s, new bumpers (trainers) were the most shameful thing imaginable. You had to get them aged before you’d wear them in public 😂

catless · 30/11/2021 09:05

God I feel so old........

oakleaffy · 30/11/2021 09:05

Those trainer inserts {Just googled} look agonising.

Like something Hannibal Lecter might wear on his face.

They can't be good for a person's feet..But we are talking 'Fashion Victims' here.
Next time I go into Town, I'll be looking for lads {Maybe girls too?} walking in this careful manner.

GoGoGretaDoll · 30/11/2021 09:11

This has blown my tiny mind, given I'm of the 'stand on my new trainers so they don't look white and shame me' generation.

Kids today, eh? GrinGrinGrin

SnappedAndFarted18 · 30/11/2021 09:14

LOL LOL OP 😂 I bought 2 out of my 3 children Airforce 1’s & couldn’t stop laughing at them both walking around like this, no matter how much I explained to them they’re just trainers & you can’t walk around like that forever they wasn’t having any of it 🤦‍♀️🤣 this went on for just over a week while me & my eldest just rolled our eyes & laughed at them, thankfully it never lasted more than that - but guess who got the blame for the first crease 🙄🤣 yep it was me apparently I made my youngest crease hers because I refused to allow her to do PE in her old trainers so her only choice was the beloved Airforce1’s 🤣🤣

Iamnotminterested · 30/11/2021 09:14

WTF? trainers crease 🤷‍♀️ I did not realise this was a thing. I'm going to be looking out for teenage zombies around town now.

LavenderAskew · 30/11/2021 09:19

@user1471462634

Grin This makes sense now, my DD14 wants a pair of Doc Martens for Xmas, she asked " do they crease?" At the time I was Confused
90s fashion isn't quite back in all its glory then!!

The utter horror of shiny new Docs. They had to be broken in. You would be flexing them goodo to get creases. As well as and going mountain climbing (hoping no one would see you) and pray for a long fall down loose rocks just to scuff them before you would even consider socialising wearing then. 😉

HollysBush · 30/11/2021 09:24

We used to call our trainers ‘bumpers’ in the 80’s. Where are you from AnybodyAnywhere ?

PurpleParrotfish · 30/11/2021 09:26

I’ve never really thought about it before, but why were we all so desperate for our trainers not to look new in the 90s? Was it part of the reaction against 80s fashion?

AtomicBlondeRose · 30/11/2021 09:31

I remember people standing on each other's toe to get DMs worn in properly! And the pain until they were broken in...but then the comfort afterwards was worth it. And shiny white trainers were DEATH.

Snoozer11 · 30/11/2021 09:33

I am now shamefully looking at the creases in my favourite trainers.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 30/11/2021 09:34

I am allowed to wear black trainers to work. I got myself a pair of Air Force 1's.

Realised a few days later it's what all the kids are wearing 🤦‍♀️ mine are creased though!

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 30/11/2021 09:39

I did twatty things like this in the 90s! This brings back such memories 🤩

FlowerFlour · 30/11/2021 09:39

So funny, especially when he could just... not wear them in the house?

Back in the 90s my brother wanted to emulate the rap duo Kriss Kross, so he wore his jeans backwards. It's been 30 years and my dad still mentions it all the time in bemusement.
