DS16 walking like Frankenstein so that he doesn't crease his new trainers

Is this a thing now? DS says he can't flex his feet as his trainers will get creases in them and they won't look so good. The trainers in question are Air Force 1's which he bought with his own money from his Saturday job. He's been walking around the house like this for 2 days now.

AIBU or is this completely bonkers? And does anybody else have stories of their teens doing mad things that they can share? Thanks.

I thought it was great that girls were wearing trainers and docs ‘out out’ so they weren’t slaves to pain in skyscraper heels whilst dancing and queuing to get in places…. but it turns out they are buying shoes two sizes too small and wearing anti crease devices instead Confused Grin

Oh this is just one to store up for future embarrassing anecdotes. The precious Air Force 1s will be a brilliant story for the future.

It’s just teenage ridiculousness.

wolfstarling · 30/11/2021 09:42

Yes my DD did this and would sell them on ebay if they got creased at one point. She is back on the straight and narrow now thankfully. My DS would wear her cast offs and thankfully didn't mind a beat up trainer. Airforce 1s too.

My brother's hamster nibbled the leg of his shell suit in the 80's - the DRAMA that ensued! Said suit was never worn again because of Hammy's teethmarks...!

shouldistop · 30/11/2021 09:47

Why is he wearing them round the house then?

Lellochip · 30/11/2021 09:48

Definitely a 'thing'. I saw a proposal video pop up on one of my social media feeds the other day. A grown man removing one of his nikes before he got on one knee Hmm

Pumpkinstace · 30/11/2021 09:52

There's a guy in my street like this.

Blinding white trainers and he walks like he needs a change of underwear.

He's in his 50s. He's a pleb.

LadyWithLapdog · 30/11/2021 09:56

Thank you OP and contributors for a good laugh this morning.

The Air Forces do get wrinkly so quickly but I had no idea it was a thing to actively avoid. The Frankenstein walk 😂😂

cherrytreecottage · 30/11/2021 09:58

Ah my girls are the same! I buy them crease protectors - I'll be honest the Amazon/eBay ones aren't as good as the Crep Protector version but once they're in, you don't get creases at all - they're really good!

rainbowdashsneeze · 30/11/2021 09:58

I bought my daughter some inserts for her from JD. don't think they're very comfy but they do prevent creases and he should be able to start walking like a human again 😂. I love watching my teenager she is so funny and some of the stuff she comes out with is brilliant!

Ekofisk · 30/11/2021 10:00

I remember bumpers or bumper boots being shoes with big rubber toe caps or soles (like Converse). School plimsolls were daps.

cheninblanc · 30/11/2021 10:02

My daughter bought things to stop the creases, didn't work, they now have creases! But the fuss not get creases is hilarious

lupad · 30/11/2021 10:07

This made me laugh!

One of my teenage friends used to wear super tight low rise jeans, so tight that she slept in them the night before so they un stretched a bit!

lupad · 30/11/2021 10:08

As a trainer freak myself though, avoiding creases is fruitless

Iamblossom · 30/11/2021 10:09

It won't last, the novelty will wear off, just remember it as a funny story for years to come.

lupad · 30/11/2021 10:11

I’ve never really thought about it before, but why were we all so desperate for our trainers not to look new in the 90s?

I was a 90s tween & teen & there was a definite thing to keep your Nikes & Adidas box fresh. Converse could be scruffy though.

feellikezerobucks · 30/11/2021 10:26

My DS12 has trainers that he won't wear outside as he doesn't want to wreak them...there his indoor shoes (even though we are a no shoes indoor family 🤦🏻‍♀️)

Madness!!!!

SSOYS · 30/11/2021 10:28

I think this sounds very sweet. Good for him wanting to take care of something he has saved up for. Am sure he'll give it up soon!

CherryCoco · 30/11/2021 10:32

Yes it's a thing! My daughter (13) told me off for wearing mine and not walking properly and apparently I've ruined them now as they have a crease! She also has a pair and walks like a bloody penguin Grin

diddl · 30/11/2021 10:41

So is he never going to wear them outside?

Wear other shoes & carry these with him to wear in other people's houses?

Does this "no crease" rule only apply to certain trainers?

How about a new trend-clean & polish them so that they still look good, they are comfortable & you can walk properly?

Skatastic · 30/11/2021 10:44

My DS11 does this what a total nobbbberrrrrrr

sweeneytoddsrazor · 30/11/2021 10:45

This has made me laugh. I have to say I know bugger all about not creasing trainers, so instead I will be the pedantic old fart that points out, it was the Dr called Frankenstein not the monster Grin

Hankunamatata · 30/11/2021 10:49

This reminds me of the fresh price era of huge white trainers

Hankunamatata · 30/11/2021 10:51

Make sure you film penguin walking so you have a nice video for his 18th 😬
