cant understand the appeal for any over about 25.

its for kids! or for older people trying to be "cool" or with too much time on their hands.

I've never seen Facebook, but not because I think it's beneath me. Just have to ask what's a Zombie invitation?

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 16/12/2007 13:33

You can be a zombie ensign, and when you bite? otherpeople they can be recruited to be zombies too.
If they accept you get stronger and more points, then can fight other zombies.
You can be pirates too, and vampires.

facebooknever · 16/12/2007 13:35

dr northerner.

yes i agree. but mn is a parenting forum
where everyone shares a common ground.

its great for advice, and to chat away with complete strangers! but poeple on mn arnt
trying to be your "friend". i think you know theres a big difference between mn and fb.

but im sure facebook is great if you've got lots of spare time, and i shouldn't knock something iv'e never tried.

Facebooknever, people pn facebook aren't generally trying to be your 'friend' they already are your friends!

Scotia · 16/12/2007 13:38

Thanks for the explanation Tiny.

AMerryScot · 16/12/2007 13:39

Facebook is a lot of fun. You can do as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.

I have tracked down some old friends and colleagues, and it seems much easier to add to your friends list than it is to contact them on Friends Reunited.

My Church's Facebook group has about 100 members, so it definitely doesn't feel like it's only a place for teens (that would be Bebo and Myspace ).

It's the easiest place to share photographs, I've found. I love the way you can tag each person in the photo.

The applications are great fun. I love the Traveller IQ app, and also the various word/photo/verse of the day.

zippitippitoes · 16/12/2007 13:39

i love tiny tim she types pn isntead of on just klike me

DrNortherner · 16/12/2007 13:40

Actually I think it's the other way round. Facebook is great if you don't have lots of time. YOu can dip in and out and reply specifically to people who have contacted you. All the other shot yuo can ignore.

You need much more sparetime to plough through the endless threads on here.

But as you say, you've never tried it so you wouldn't know.

zippitippitoes · 16/12/2007 13:40

i love the daily hunk tbh worth the free login just to see them everyd ay

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 16/12/2007 13:46

MellowChristmasEveryone · 16/12/2007 13:52

perhaps she has been reading the "for sale boards"!

DingDongJeremyOnVile · 16/12/2007 13:58

Facebook is good for one thing only - being nosey!

I was nosey about people from school, found some, exchanged some pleasantries and, um, that's it.

I was nosey about an ex, found him, exchanged some pleasantries and......that's it!

Same with ex colleagues.

Ok, actually, it's quite good for giving the odd nod (or rather, throwing sheep at) people you aren't interested in enough to email but like all the same.

Friends - you see, call or email.

Ditto family.

Long lost people are usually long lost for good reasons. Facebook is good for reminding you of that fact

I guess what bugs me about it is that it puts a voyeuristic spin on communication, social niceties being seen as more valid when they are on show to a wider audience - that I find odd in anyone over 25.

jinglebug · 16/12/2007 14:15

Our MP is on fb. What a great alternative way to reach more of the community!

NineUnlovelyTinselDecorations · 16/12/2007 14:31

Facebook is for people who want to use Facebook. Difficult to comprehend? I don't think so. Difficult to comprehend if you don't use facebook and therefore haven't the foggiest what you are actually talking about - probably.

I don't understand why it bothers anyone enough to start a thread criticising those people who do find it useful. I really don't. I can't see the point in a lot of stuff on the internet and in RL but I don't assume everyone who does like it and who is over/under my arbitrary age limit is sad.

bookofchristmascarolsmum · 16/12/2007 14:32

I've found an old flatmate from years ago (I left student digs to have my dd and never returned) and we're meeting up in the new year. Would have been a bugger tracing her otherwise since she's gotten married since I last saw her! Other than that, FB is a glorious way to waste an hour or two.

Thumbs up for scrabulous though.

NadineHumbug · 16/12/2007 14:35

I'm 57, I love it, so?

you take what you want from it.

I mean there are threads on mumsnet that bore me rigid - what's for tea, name my dog, am I pregnant/ (how the frig should I know?)

yerknowwhatimean?

AMerryScot · 16/12/2007 14:38

Absolutely, Nadine.

manchita · 16/12/2007 16:00

Daily hunk? God that sounds vile

CatIsSleepy · 16/12/2007 16:26

facebook is good for lazy people like me...it's enabled me to get back in touch in a very easy way with friends I was probably on the verge of losing contact with altogether...

and yes you could say I should/could be calling them, writing them letters or whatever but in practice this does not happen and I find calling someone -or even emailing them-after a long period without contact rather awkward. So actually Facebook has been somewhat of a godsend.

It's no big deal, though really. It's certainly not something you have to take a moral standpoint against! if you don't like the sound of it, don't do it. Though I do find it rather less sad than being on MN-after all it's about being in touch with people you actually know

It's fab if you like playing scrabble though. and mastermind.
