But I am very knowledgeable and have lots of good advice to give people. Mainly because I go out into the world and meet people and make new friends

Islamum · 16/12/2007 11:53

I'm intelligent and mostly happy and i really lije facebook. Was great for sharing pics when dd was born, is good for keeping in touch with family and friends who aren't local, or are local but mega busy.

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 16/12/2007 11:54

Bit of a strange first post that's all.
Plus your op says 'been alot of threads on here about facebook.' which implies you have read alot of previous posts.

tinytim are you a founder of facebook? You seem very protective of it

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 16/12/2007 11:55

Lol, Machita, are you implying people who have facebook don't go out into the real world???

facebooknever · 16/12/2007 11:56

tinytim.

seriously, i am really pleased that facebook
helped you. when i read your post it mad me quite sad. hope everythings going well for you now.

No Manchita, I just think that slagging off something because you don't understand it is pretty daft. But then going on to imply things about people who use it, when there are reasons to do so, is pretty rude tbh.

manchita · 16/12/2007 11:57

I didn't say that! I just find it really sad when friends ask me to join their facebook page so they can add more friends or whetever you do. Why do you want everyone knowing your business? Surely those who really care would have other ways of knowing

manchita · 16/12/2007 12:01

And I find it is only those disappointed in life who want to look up old schoolfriends when they are in their thirties

facebooknever · 16/12/2007 12:01

i agree with manchita.

tinytim, i know there are exceptions but on the whole facebook users are yong people, or older people just being "nosy" which has been admitted on here today.

theres a touch of voyeurism in that.

I just can't work facebook...methinks I must be too old for it

Bebo, however...love it!

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 16/12/2007 12:05

It's easier, surely you havefriends you don't speak to everyday??? Rather than having to call them all, or text them all to tell them some news you can just FB them.

If you want to share pictures (eg my frends wedding I wasnt able to go to, I saw her wedding pics on everyones pages, easier than everyone emailing me their pics).

I had a scan not long ago and it was quicker and easier to just change my status to '......is pelased her scan went well and everything is fine with baby' so all the people that wanted to know, knew.

Yes, zombies and the such like is pretty silly, but Facebook is a site that was created originally for uni friends to keep in touch, under the idea that you normally move in diffreent directions after uni, then it was opened everyone.

I'd think it sadder if someone stayed in the same little house in the same little town, with the same little friends and never branched out enough to have met someone they don't see daily.

Also, it's free, cheaper than a phonecall, cheaper than atext.

manchita · 16/12/2007 12:11

Hmmm if it was news that was important to me and if they were close to me and needed to know I would phone and have a conversation with them.
So is everyone you know on facebook, Tiny?

manchita · 16/12/2007 12:13

I didn't mean that to sound rube btw, I was just thinking as I wrote that I don't know many people close to me who are actually on it. We speak to each other

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 16/12/2007 12:14

You'd call everyone? for something that they didnt need to know, but wanted to know?? Time consuming and a waste of money. If I call my friends, especially the ones I moved way from about 2yearsago, I spend at least 30/40 minutes on the phone, so I really wouldnt have time to call them all.
Yes, pretty much everyone I know is on fb.

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 16/12/2007 12:15

Also, it's good to arrange meet-ups, just arrange an 'event' and people can answer when they know if they can come or not, obviously you wouldn't use it for something really important but a meal and catch up or something, we do.

WatsIsForLifeNotJustForXmas · 16/12/2007 12:16

I find facebook really handy. My friends are all scattered in different countries and there is no way I could afford to phone them. Also, its really nice to be able to share photos with them.

ghosty · 16/12/2007 12:17

LOL - My 82 year old Auntie has a Facebook page ...

MrsWeasleysmagicmincepies · 16/12/2007 12:25

found out at a Christmas do that ALOT of the mums at school use it! I havent even looked at it ........yet!

It cant be any more addictive than MN, Can it?

lazawreath · 16/12/2007 12:27

Facebook has been great for me. I'm back in touch with people i havent seen since i was seven!! ONe of them was my best friend who i lost contact with because my parents moved house. It's really interesting to see how people have turned out.

lazawreath · 16/12/2007 12:28

Mrsweasley, mn is A LOT more addictive.

manchita · 16/12/2007 12:28

I am suspicious of of overactive cyberspace use

ghosty · 16/12/2007 12:32

It is MrsWeasley - Today is the first day I have looked in on MN for weeks but I have been on FB every day ...
On FB I have hooked up with friends I haven't seen for 20 years, I play scrabulous with my brother every day - he lives 12000 miles away from me and we have had more contact in the last 2 months than we have had in 6 years ... I have a laugh with my cousins every day too (again, the most contact I have had with them for 6 years, if not my whole life).
Old pupils of mine have made contact with me - two of them are back packing around the world and want to come and visit next year.
I 'poke' Califrau every single day about 3 times a day
FB rocks
