To think taking a baby to Parliament is ridiculous?

Stella Creasy MP taking her baby to the Commons - I think it is utterly ridiculous.

Everyone else has to find childcare. Labour have lost the plot and don’t seem to care what people think (I say this as a life long Labour vote who cannot stomach voting for Labour as it now is). Parliament even have a nursery! www.parliament.uk/about/working/nursery/

@mbosnz

In what country?

NZ. Of course, a backwards nation, compared to this. . .

Well can’t be a serious NZ law firm - that would be unheard of.

No need for theatrics and drama.
The only theatrics and drama I see is coming from people like yourself @iawbuwes.🤣🤣🤣

@emeraldcity2000

I'm also pretty sure Stella suffered multiple miscarriages so didn't get to choose the moment she had her baby as op suggests she ought to.
No just get childcare

Hardly *@wincarwoo* another lame response that doesn’t engage with the issues
Ah bless.

Hate to burst your bubble, but it's one of the top 5.

And one of those has gone on to be a Judge.

iawbuwes · 24/11/2021 22:49

@Eleganz

The problem here is lack of maternity cover and that is the point she is making. She should be able to ensure that her 90,000 constituents are adequately represented in parliament whilst she is on maternity leave. Currently that isn't the case and if she were to take maternity leave her constituency would be unrepresented for the duration and her party would be down a vote for the duration. That is really not a way to encourage women who want to start a family into politics. Of course she doesn't really want to be there weeks after giving birth with a bf-ing baby but she feels she has no choice.
She doesn’t have to bring the baby into the chamber - it is pathetic point scoring that I object to. Have your baby, be an MP, come and vote (that’s what you signed up to do and what your constituents expect) and get someone to take care of your baby when you do. It is very simple. It is absurd to expect work places to accommodate peoples desire to have children to the extent so many PP think they should. You must be people with no experience of the real world. You just carry on in fairy land while the rest of us feminists get on with it.

So fine she has a stand in for everything else and all she needs to do is get childcare when she is in the chamber. No need for theatrics and drama.

And the other people she’s pointed out are affected by this - an MP having chemo for example.

It’s not about not wanting to pay for childcare. Or even not wanting to get childcare.

It’s about changing a system that’s out of date and problematic (and disproportionately affects women)

Top 5 and judge in NZ, not really the big time.

Um, are you bigger time?

Or just bitter because other people have managed the balance in their lives better than you?

iawbuwes · 24/11/2021 22:54
@iawbuwes the baby is very young. It's understandable that she would want the baby with her. Why don't you get that?

I think you're a troll.
A troll for what? You do have a good imagination. I just don’t agree with you. Well if she just ‘wants’ her baby with her she can’t expect not to be criticised. I would love to have my DC with me at work but I have to do my job.

I find this an interesting issue because it really brings home how disadvantaged women became when we were all forced to work away from home after the industrial revolution. Perhaps this new revolution is capable of undoing some damage?

wincarwoo · 24/11/2021 22:57

The way you are engaging is pretty indicative of a troll.

Well if you can't do it neither should any one else. So there!

What's your definition of a feminist btw? Seems a little loose.

ParsleySageRosemary · 24/11/2021 22:58

It also shows up how children are so much a woman's problem, despite the many claims that we have achieved equality. We haven't. Men take less responsibility than ever for children, and feel more entitlement than ever to sex without responsibility. Their lives continue and ours stop. The employment market is going backwards for women too.

Yes so the last thing we need is an MP with a baby in a sling. Where is her partner in this?
OP posts:
wincarwoo · 24/11/2021 23:02

@iawbuwes pretty much dictionary.

Where's her partner? 😂😂😂. You really are from another era.

What you think her partner should have no childcare responsibilities? Not very feminist.

Explain what you mean by this then: ‘Where's her partner? 😂😂😂. You really are from another era.’
It is by no means clear.
I can assure you I am a professional female non troll.

What theatrics and drama? The baby was asleep, the MP did her job, nothing was disrupted. But only male MPs should be allowed to have young children, women like Stella Creasy should know their place and stay out of politics.

Not facile.

iawbuwes · 24/11/2021 23:19

My question is why can her partner not sure childcare so she can get on with voting? That’s what most people do.
