To wonder what Adele meant when she said she "had to show up for herself every day?"

Baffled. What does this mean?

OP posts:
GreenLunchBox · 21/11/2021 20:18

Corr blimey, that's fucking hilarious @DrSbaitso
Grin

GreenLunchBox · 21/11/2021 20:18

I've always said i don't understand the Adele hype. I suppose it's telling that now she's got a waist to die for people are only now coming out and saying they don't get the hype. Was it because she was overweight before?

GreenLunchBox · 21/11/2021 20:20

Okay, they're not saying they don't get the hype, but suddenly she's being criticised all over

Theluggage15 · 21/11/2021 20:43

How on earth is she vile and entitled? She’s hugely talented and successful. I may not like her therapy speak stuff but she’s certainly ‘entitled’ to all the money she’s made and her fame and as for vile, what a nasty thing to say.

Capferret · 21/11/2021 20:44

I like Adele.
And with all of her money why shouldn't she spend it on her image.
She looks amazing.
Nobody is forced to listen to her if they don't want to.
Personally if I could write just one hit song I'd think I'd made it.
Adele is fantastically talented imo.

spotcheck · 21/11/2021 20:55

Hmmm

I've not listened to her new album
I think it's great she is from Tottenham and made good
She seems v v sad and changed- which happens after a divorce. Hopefully she'll make her way out of it.

But.....

I am really really annoyed at her 73 questions.
It was like her publicist wrote it. It was just one big commercial for her album. Not in the spirit of 73 questions at all

MaryStuart · 21/11/2021 21:16

Yeah, I don’t think she’s vile or entitled.
Bloody fair play to her for her success.
But stop the annoying blathering.

amazeandastonish · 21/11/2021 21:24

The attraction of Adele was that she was 'just like us' - a gobby Brit who didn't give a shit albeit had a better voice than the rest of us

Now she's turned into American glamour woke Adele, who still doesn't give a shit, except. this time she also doesn't give a shit who she hurts. I also suspect she has had surgery (no way is that new look through hard work alone) which further loses my respect for her.

amazeandastonish · 21/11/2021 21:26

@MrsDThomas

I saw a comment the other day from someone (unsure who and where), that she was a “musical Meghan Markle”.😂
I saw that comment too (daily fail) and it was nail on head.
ssd · 21/11/2021 21:28

Who is she hurting Confused

GreenLunchBox · 21/11/2021 21:29

Anyone watching an audience with Adele on ITV?

DrSbaitso · 21/11/2021 21:30

Does anyone complain about male singers who write songs about breakups and don't care who they hurt? Didn't Eminem pretend to be murdering the mother of his child and dumping her body, and make direct references to the child including her name when rapping about how much he hated his mother, and get lauded as a genius?

Stephthegreat · 21/11/2021 21:32

She’s annoying, her music is bland these days. She’s become her public persona, she doesn’t seem like a real person any more.

WildRosie · 21/11/2021 21:37

She has a new album to promote. It could be related to that.

HaroldSteptoesHorse · 21/11/2021 21:37

I was bored to tears with her Audience with, her songs put me to sleep

Mydogmylife · 21/11/2021 21:38

@Aderyn21

I think what’s getting on peoples nerves a bit is that she is asking for some sort of special understanding from her son, re her divorce because she ‘was still a child’, when she blatantly wasn’t. She was a very rich, adult woman. Fair enough, get divorced if he isn’t making you happy. But own your decision
100% this. I don't like the idea of her using clips of her conversations with her son either
TractorAndHeadphones · 21/11/2021 21:40

That's fair enough but the utter venom on here's vile. Judging her for ending her marriage etc who knows what's going on behind the scenes? As @DrSbaitso said plenty of men have done worse.

I do feel sad at her change of persona though. The Adele who went to the Grenfell vigil without any publicity etc is long gone. Her image, everything she seems to want to change herself,

I feel sorry for her more than anything

Agree! And don't put clips of your conversations with your son on your tracks saying its for his benefit
Shimmylikejoanholloway · 21/11/2021 21:48

I like Adele, I think she's always come across as genuine and grateful for her success. I admired that she kept her son private.

I think it's disgusting that she's used clips (voicenotes) of him in songs, talking about the divorce. He's too young to consent to that or understand the implications of that. I can't see a reason why she needed to do that and it makes me feel very uncomfortable - I also don't understand why anyone wants to listen to a confused and distressed little boy trying to understand his parent's divorce and get to grips with his feelings.

That, and not her sudden small waist, as another poster put it, is why I've gone off her.

Stephthegreat · 21/11/2021 21:48

It seems like Adele is surrounded by people telling her how amazing she is all the time. It’s not healthy, it must be a weird existence. I do feel for her as I’ve been through a divorce and it’s awful. But I don’t like the way her son has been dragged into it all and I find the music has lost any edge it once had.

DrSbaitso · 21/11/2021 21:50

Do we need to take song lyrics completely literally and at face value? Is it possible that when she said she was a child, she meant poetically...that she lacked the emotional maturity you might expect for that age? Or maybe she even knows that that's not true and is a bit of a daft statement, but it's an honest reflection of how she felt and she's not dictating to listeners how they have to feel about it? Being a flawed human is surely something she was working through.

Mydogmylife · 21/11/2021 21:52

Oops sorry for double post! Phone playing silly buggers

Voord · 21/11/2021 22:18

I fail to understand the venom she’s getting on here.

She’s not my cup of tea musically and I wouldn’t pay to see her, but she’s clearly got a stunning voice and is fantastically talented.

I think she meant it poetically Just watched An Audience With and enjoyed it Still don't think she's an amazing singer, but enjoyed the show
MrsSkylerWhite · 21/11/2021 23:28

It used to be called pulling yourself together and getting on with daily life.
(That’s sounds really sarcastic! Not meant to be. Just my interpretation of what she said!)
