To ask for your coffee

Coffee is now something I endure rather than enjoy. I usually go for whatever I can get. Probably taylors as that's in a shop I pass on thr way to work although supermarket own brands are often purchased as well.

But I'm.bored of them and the disgusting weird tasting yuck I have in the tin at the moment has tipped me over the edge .

What do you all put in your Coffee machines.

I want a nice coffee I can sit and relax with that serves a purpose a bit more than just perking me up for the school run

Tia

I dont like it too bitter. Usually go for the java as I like a bit of strength but without the bitterness. Currently have a lidl one but it has a really strange after taste to it I can't explain it exactly but I'm.sure you fellow coffee drinkers know what I mean.

I think I've seen lavazza in morrissons I shall he popping in next week so I'll buy/ordee a range if the suggestions and see if one if them fits the bill
Thank u

I’m a coffee snob. I own a cafe in London so we have a proper machine there and we use locally roasted coffee. I always buy the beans and grind them myself. Then proper creamy milk from
Estate dairy.

Lavazza, Julius Meinl, and a Puerto Rican coffee called Yaucono which is very nice.

Forget the product, it’s not about that. The video on here is fantastic talking about how to make coffee taste great. The freshness / roasting date is particularly key.

PollyIndia · 20/11/2021 19:38

Oh and I use a cafetière usually at home in the week but a chemex at weekends when I have more time. The key is grinding the beans just before you brew the coffee though. Makes a huge difference.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 20/11/2021 19:38

Another vote for the Aldi italian, beans or ground, both are excellent. Also the tesco own brand italian, but I don't think they do beans...at least not in our tesco.

If you can get to Costco the SanfranciscoBay Organic Rainforest is amazing, the beans are plump and fresh and oily. Really good deep strong rounded flavour with no burny waft or weird aftertaste.

lottiegarbanzo · 20/11/2021 19:40

I like cafetiere coffee and proper coffee shop coffee. I find 'hot water drip' machine coffee worse than either. I don't think the type of cafetiere matters. It's more that cheap ones don't last.

Wombat46 · 20/11/2021 19:41

There are little local coffee roasters everywhere now.

I get my coffee on subscription from a bloke working in a shed in Rhyl. ☕😁

Mug Run - lovely bloke.

averythinline · 20/11/2021 19:41

Lidl purple packet think its Guatemala...lovely rich , strong....

Otherpeoplesteens · 20/11/2021 19:41

@Sparklingbubbles

The Aldi own brand Italian roast is beautiful.
It used to be, until they 'improved' the blend by making it 100% arabica. Depriving it of the robusta content has ruined it, although at least the price came down.

The Lidl Italian blend is also 100% arabica but slightly better IMHO. It's all we need from coffee here: in a Gaggia Gran Gaggia Prestige it's as good as home espresso gets.

Wombat46 · 20/11/2021 19:41

It means I don't have to choose...

Beebumble2 · 20/11/2021 19:46

We use Roast and Post. They roast your choice and post within 24 hrs.
There’s a wide choice and will do a sample pack as a taster. Always spot on.

FourteenSixteenTwentyTwo · 20/11/2021 19:47

A local for me is best - 200 degrees (Notts based). Their house blend is lovely and can be bought online too, but it is pricey.

I am following in interest though as I’ve only had my bean to cup for a week, so it’s changing my preferences massively.

Whatwouldscullydo · 20/11/2021 19:47

matt I can't stop laughing at your name. Love it Grin

I've placed one order so far

This is an expensive thread. Most helpful thanks everyone ☺ I will definitely look into a cafetiere I think then if they re better. I can justify it if I'm.binnimg the coffee machine

We drink the Pact coffees.

impressivelycunty · 20/11/2021 19:53

If you're in London, Grind is really good - and filter coffee is my favourite over cafetières every time!

Lagomtransplant · 20/11/2021 19:55

Forget the machines. Get a Turkish pot, boil the water in it, add 3 heaped teaspoons + 1 for each additional person, mix, bring to boil, remove from heat before it goes over, bring to boil once more. Leave to rest for 2 minutes and pour into a cup through a small siv. Add milk and/or sweetener as per taste (I prefer a good glug of milk only). It got me through stats exams during Stockholm winters.

Lagomtransplant · 20/11/2021 19:57

And in the absence of good coffee shops here (let's face it, UK coffee is a bit Confused) I either get mum to send it from Sweden or pop into IKEA in case of direct need (properly smooth and flavourfull).

eatthepineapple · 20/11/2021 19:58

I really like the Machu Picchu one from cafe direct. It's fair trade too! That's my go to for the cafetière.

If we are using the mocca pot thing on the stove it's got to be lavazza. Even the decaf is good! (I'm bf but love my coffee!)

PeanuttyButter · 20/11/2021 20:05

We order from Hasbean every month. Roasted/ground to order.

Gigglebert · 20/11/2021 20:07

Another vote for an aeropress! So much better than a cafetiere! We have a coffee subscription with a local to us coffee roaster (Thomsons in Glasgow) and have ground coffee delivered every fortnight (works out about £18 a kilo delivered). At the moment we are drinking Ethiopian Mocha Djimmah but we also love the Blue Mountain blend.

siblingrevelryagain · 20/11/2021 20:10

Also Italian blend (no 4)

unicornpower · 20/11/2021 20:10

We buy from monsoon coffee estates and it’s lovely, I know not a fan of Taylor’s, I don’t know why but I just have never liked it much! Aldi’s is good, and so is Whittards. You could always buy some from a coffee shop where you like the coffee?

whateverintheworld · 20/11/2021 20:12

Another vote for Grind coffee (in London). They deliver ground or pods

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 20/11/2021 20:14

200 degrees is my favourite

Union are nice too. Ethiopian or Guatemalan ones my favourite.
