Turkey is a poor country - of course it should have help. The U.K. is one of the richest so should do more than it’s share.

woodhill · 19/11/2021 14:54

UK does loads and we've had a lot of immigration already, we are so overcrowded as it is especially in the South East

The ten host countries with the highest number of refugees are:

Turkey (3.7 million)
Jordan (2.9 million)
Lebanon (1.4 million)
Pakistan (1.4 million)
Uganda (1.1 million)
Germany (1 million)
Iran (979,400)
Ethiopia (921.00)
Sudan (908,700)
Bangladesh (906,600

UK is absolutely tiny and way overcrowded. Social care, maternity and health services are in crisis. There is a housing crisis.

Those services in crisis are mismanagement. Nothing to do with refugees

But the more people you have here who aren't paying in the less there is to go around for those already here

So where do you think the people should go to? Another country which is already helping more than the U.K.?

All the more reason to process things quickly to allow them to work and start paying in. Which evidence says they do once allowed.
woodhill · 19/11/2021 15:45

Yes, one which may be more compatible with their beliefs and culture. I think the UK does do enough

Parker231 · 19/11/2021 15:48

The U.K. is meant to be a multi cultural society so open to any race, creed, religion and nationality. Sounds like you only want British people to live in the U.K.?

LaetitiaASD · 19/11/2021 15:48

@DroopyClematis

I do wonder why these poor people who are so desperate to flee from their homelands, will continue through so many other safe countries in order to get to the UK?

Why is UK the ultimate goal? Is it because it's English speaking? Does UK offer something else that is more desirable than what nations, in between, can offer?

It is so incredibly sad to see these half starved, half freezing and dazed folk land on our beaches/ports.

I think some might speak some english and not latvian, so being in england makes more sense. Or they already have family in the UK.

Just about the only thing sadder than seeing these half starved, half freezing and dazed folk land on our beaches/ports is the thought that I have to live in a country with people who think Priti Patel and Nigel Farage are anything other than the lowest form of scum humanity produces.

Erinrose82 · 19/11/2021 15:48

The women and children and elderly men yes I'd have more sympathy. But hordes of young men nope. Where are their families. No way. I don't care how cruel you all accuse me of being... I'd never ever turn away a mother or children. Takes the mick hundreds of blokes. Some with prison sentences from France ... for what ? That needs assessment.

Erinrose82 · 19/11/2021 15:52

I honestly ( again I'll get shot down ) think the young ( under 50 ) men come here because simply.. it's easier for them. Harder if pregnant or with nursing babies and young children. Then can you and go quite easily. Those left behind bear the brunt and need help. Many stories of wives and children left behind in Afghanistan recently, many joining others left to try and protect and provide for each other. And yes, many safe countries on route.

Do you not worry about terrorism in the UK and how Christians and Jews are treated in Islamic countries?

This was foisted upon us as far as I'm concerned
Parker231 · 19/11/2021 15:58

@woodhill - are you really saying you only want the British to live in the U.K.?

woodhill · 19/11/2021 16:04

No, of course not

How do you define British

My own dgps were from Europe

JustAnotherPoster00 · 19/11/2021 16:17

I see this thread is still dog whistling away

Parker231 · 19/11/2021 16:19

@woodhill - I don’t think Britain should be just for the British. It’s a better place with many different nationalities, religions and backgrounds.

woodhill · 19/11/2021 16:20

If you say so

Allycott · 19/11/2021 18:22
@woodhill - I don’t think Britain should be just for the British. It’s a better place with many different nationalities, religions and backgrounds.
Id be interested to see why you think this. Care to explain?

woodhill · 19/11/2021 18:24

@Allycott

Do you mean Parker to answer this?😀

Parker231 · 19/11/2021 18:32

A greater tolerance of others - cultural and religion. Opportunities to learn about different backgrounds, languages, foods and politics. Life would be boring if we were all the same.
