To want to pay cleaner by bank transfer not cash.

Starryskiesinthesky · 18/11/2021 07:41

Cleaner wants paid in cash but I never have cash so would prefer to pay by bank transfer. Fact she wants cash makes me think she’s not declaring it. What do others do and do you care if they are not declaring it? £15 per hour if it makes a difference. Thanks.

@pigsDOfly

I very rarely use cash now - I think I've had the same £5 note in my purse for months - but if someone wants to be paid by cash I really don't see it as a problem.

I recently had some work done that cost me £240. I was asked to pay cash, which I did. I did a sort of inward eye roll but if the person doesn't declare it that's between them and the inland revenue. Even if someone takes cash it doesn't automatically mean they aren't declaring it.

Don't really understand the idea that getting cash out of a atm is a faff, they're all over the place and every supermarket has one.

If you know it's a regular payment just plan ahead and take out enough money for a few weeks.

This is very area specific. Certainly not all over the place where I live - they’ve been steadily closed. The nearest would necessitate a special trip which costs me time and money especially as I can’t drive. Again taking out money for a ‘few weeks’ means carrying quite a bit of cash so you can’t do it on a night out because who wants to walk around the town centre (known for pickpockets) with a wodge of cash for a few hours?

You are the boss so you decide how she gets paid. If she doesn't like it she can find another job.

lisophil · 18/11/2021 12:03

If she is providing a service that you are happy with and you trust her in your house I don't see the problem in paying cash 🤷🏻‍♀️

tttigress · 18/11/2021 12:03

Why no worry about how got a cleaner she is. If good reliable cleaner, I would pay cash.

LuaDipa · 18/11/2021 12:07

@twilightcafe

Always paid cash. It's not hard to go to a cashpoint.
It is when you live in the back end of beyond! I wouldn’t care less if she was declaring or not but getting to a cash point on the regular would be to much of a faff for me
LuaDipa · 18/11/2021 12:07

*too

furbabymama87 · 18/11/2021 12:09

It doesn't affect you in any way, shape or form if she's not declaring it. I assume you're well off if you have a cleaner and if she's a cleaner, then she's not. I don't condone benefit fraud, but you don't know anything for sure, so why would you make life more difficult for her?

She's not the cleavers 'boss'. She is ONE of the cheaters many clients. What an ignorant remark.
KurtWilde · 18/11/2021 12:10

*cleaners not cheaters. Stupid autocorrect.

supersonicginandtonic · 18/11/2021 12:12

You do realise you can withdraw cash at a post office don't you?

TractorAndHeadphones · 18/11/2021 12:12

Also to add I wouldn’t care if she was declaring it or not. None of my business

If you are rural that may nor be easy either. Nearest to us is 4 miles and only open 3 hours a day Mon-Fri. The village I live in isn't small but the PO closed years ago and the village shop doesn't do cash back. Not all supermarkets have ATMs either.
PuggyMum · 18/11/2021 12:32

Gosh so many people assume that cleaners aren't declaring income and are untrustworthy but growing up my mums cash in hand cleaning job was what put food on the table when my dad had gambled away 'his' money. (Including my brothers who were her step sons).

Can't remember the last time I've been in a post office. That's a bigger faff than anything.

I think the nearest post office is further away than the nearest ATM! I have also realised that I have misplaced my cashline card.

@Starryskiesinthesky

I have decided having a cleaner is more hassle than it’s worth so I am going to go back to doing my own!
Really? Coz you can't be bothered to pay in cash?

I agree - why would I make it harder for her if that is how she prefers it.

I do also agree that it must be much harder keeping track of people’s payments if it’s done online rather than collecting cash.

Anyway, I think I was just grumpy this morning because I felt really bad about not having all the money and so it was a pain having to go to the bank specially to get it and then go home before going to work. Just seemed like it wasn’t worth the hassle.

I pay my cleaner by bank transfer. She is amazing so I probably would pay in cash if she really wanted me too but it would be a serious pain - it would take me at least 40 minutes to go and get the correct money - and I see a cleaner as a service to make my life easier.

Hardbackwriter · 18/11/2021 13:04

@Proudboomer

I can’t believe so many people don’t ever have cash on them or in their house. What do you do if your child needs a couple of pound for one of the numerous theme days they do? Do you not give to charity tin rustlers ie buy a poppy, shove lose change in the collection tin for your local hospice or suchlike? Don’t your children ask for a few pound to go to the pictures, bowling alley or just to the corner shop? Don’t you ever what to buy something you don’t want to appear on your bank statement? Don’t you put a fiver in a birthday card for a party your child is attending? Dont you put anything in charity collection envelopes when they come through the door, don’t you give your children your lose change to they can hear their money box rattle when they shake it and learn that they need to save x amount of pennies to buy the comic they want?
This might astonish you, but not everyone has children...
tiredanddangerous · 18/11/2021 13:07

I pay mine cash. I'm fine with it because she's an excellent cleaner and they're like gold dust. She has a waiting list and I don't want to be bumped for someone new!

DiamondBright · 18/11/2021 13:09

Most people I used to pay in cash thankfully accept a bank transfer or have a machine connected to an app now, except my window cleaner who never sticks to the schedule so catches me out, it's really annoying, I try to keep enough cash in the drawer in the hall but it always gets borrowed for something else.

It's definitely inconvenient. I get they need to check who's paid, but there's an element of book keeping with cash payments plus cash then needs to be taken to the bank so I'm not sure how it's convenient for anyone unless for tax purposes.

JunoMcDuff · 18/11/2021 13:27

We pay ours in cash. He shares an account with his wife, who is also self employed and they both find it easier to keep their books straight with cash. He's definitely registered with HMRC.

Youmeanyouvelostyourkey · 18/11/2021 13:36

I haven't had any cash since Mar20. We also don't have a cash point anywhere near, (we don't have any shops etc locally either), our nearest petrol station is self service and we get all shopping delivered. I also WFH Unless you live near a town, it really isn't that unusual.

MargosKaftan · 18/11/2021 13:38

Not accepting bank transfer now seems odd. I can see the arguments why someone would prefer cash to bank transfer other than they are not declaring it, but it always seems to me to be able what makes their life easier rather than yours. If there's another cleaner available who will work to the same standard and not be a faff to use, id use them.

How do some people get through life finding everything so difficult and troublesome? My god.
