To want to pay cleaner by bank transfer not cash.

Starryskiesinthesky · 18/11/2021 07:41

Cleaner wants paid in cash but I never have cash so would prefer to pay by bank transfer. Fact she wants cash makes me think she’s not declaring it. What do others do and do you care if they are not declaring it? £15 per hour if it makes a difference. Thanks.

I never pay cleaners or trades in cash.
always per bank transfer upon receipt of an invoice.

MrzClaus · 18/11/2021 08:13

@malificent7

Why begrudge a cleaner not declaring it when so many rich MPs also dont declare expenses etc?
Well surely the solution is to begrudge everyone doing it? IMO it's wrong to do, no one should be doing it and it impacts all of us when people (be they MPs, tradespeople, cleaners or businesses) do. I have the same amount of annoyance for anyone who does it!
PingedPotato · 18/11/2021 08:13

I have already used up my sons savings ton with £330 in it!

Either your cleaner is there for ages in a week or you've had ages to sort this out and go to a cash point.

icedcoffees · 18/11/2021 08:14

I'm a dog walker so similarly provide a service for people.

I accept cash and bank transfer but it all gets declared and I pay my taxes. I actually prefer bank transfer but I have two clients who like to pay in cash so that's fine by me - as long as I get paid I'm not too fussed Grin

If you're not happy to pay in cash then find another cleaner, but many are full (around here at least) so you may just end up with no cleaner at all Wink

Gladioli23 · 18/11/2021 08:15

I pay my cleaner in cash: I just get 5-6 week's worth out at once (and have a spare week stashed in a hiding place for the classic week where I look in my purse and realise I used the last week up the week before). It is annoying but I think less annoying than finding a new cleaner.

SleighBells21 · 18/11/2021 08:16

She might want cash to get it in hand straight away.
A lot of people don't transfer for a week or two so could be for her books, don't need to assume she's not declaring and even then none of your business.
Take it out at beginning of the month or when you do a food shop, fill car.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 18/11/2021 08:17

@QuiteQuaint

Except it is if you are never near one.

Never? You don’t go to the supermarket? Don’t ever go near a bank? A petrol station?

I guess you’ll have to find a new cleaner if they only want cash and you really don’t go to any of those places. Unless you don’t leave the house, it’s hard to believe though.

And if that’s the issue, why bring up the declaring it issue?

I never go near a cashpoint. I wfh, have supermarket deliveries, and my nearest petrol station doesn't have a cashpoint. There's a cashpoint at our nearest supermarket which is a few miles away. Cash is a PITA and I do almost everything by bank transfer. And although its none of my business if someone declares their income, I wouldnt trust someone who insisted on cash.
FlorenceWintle · 18/11/2021 08:17

I have a regular thing I have to pay for in cash and it’s a total pain in the arse so I feel you.

Aderyn21 · 18/11/2021 08:18

It’s not a gaff to get cash - supermarkets do cash back. I find it hard to believe that you’d not ever be anywhere where you could get hold of money!
Do what she prefers. Agree with pp that her tax is her business.

LadyCampanulaTottington · 18/11/2021 08:18

We pay our cleaner in cash. We go to the bank once a month to get her month's pay and change notes to coins so that we have everything ready.

It's not that hard.

PoppyMonth · 18/11/2021 08:19

I wouldn’t care whether she’s declaring it or not, but cash would be a pain in the arse for me.

I can’t remember the last time I had any and I’d be annoyed at having to go to a bank when a transfer takes about 10 seconds.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 18/11/2021 08:21

Would she accept something that doesn't go into her bank account, like PayPal or Revolut instead? It is annoying, especially as I don't use cash at all anymore. I get cash back when I go to the supermarket to pay my cleaner.

LethargicActress · 18/11/2021 08:22

Having a cleaner is supposed to add convenience to your life, not add to it by putting something else on your to do list like having to sort out cash.

Unless she is a really amazing cleaner, I’d either insist on bank transfer or find someone else. You are the customer, and if this service provider can’t meet your needs, there’s no point in having them.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 18/11/2021 08:22

How about a cheque (remember them?)
That way you don't have to go to the bank (but they do) and they've got a piece of paper to waft about and can pretend it's a £20 note.

@twilightcafe

Always paid cash. It's not hard to go to a cashpoint.
Depends where you live. My nearest reliably working one is 15minutes drive and £2.10 in parking charges!

It is when your nearest one is a 15 minute car journey away.
bumblingbovine49 · 18/11/2021 08:23

I can't be doing with the pfaff of always remembering to have the right cash each week so I wouldn't employ someone who always wants paying in cash if it is a regular work like a cleaner

If it is a one off for work around the house like a builder etc or a window cleaner who comes less than once a month than that is fine but I wouldn't employ a cleaner who only takes cash payment. I'd try to pay cash if it was their preference but would expect them to accept a bank transfer sometimes if I hadn't got the cash on me that week

LoveComesQuickly · 18/11/2021 08:23

I prefer to pay by bank transfer, so if my cleaner didn't accept that I'd find a new cleaner.

DoThePropeller · 18/11/2021 08:25

Good cleaner is hard to come by (around here at least) - just pay her how she wants.

Robloxdiamonds · 18/11/2021 08:25

I would insist on bank transfer as well. It's not just about not declaring the income to the taxman. My neighbour was arrested for being a drug dealer and laundering all his money through his cash in hand business. People wanting paid cash nowadays rings alarm bells to me.

TulipsTwoLips · 18/11/2021 08:26

@twilightcafe

So untrue in many places. Our town has no cash point.
YoBeaches · 18/11/2021 08:26

Just like your sons savings tin - I have a tim for cash for cleaners and buys n jobs where you need cash. Taxis etc.just keep the tin topped up each month and it's a one of task whilst your out.

Some women need cash, because their abusive husbands otherwise take every penny as a control mechanism. Try to be less presumptuous about someone's circumstances.

QuiteQuaint · 18/11/2021 08:26

But then you are in a small minority. And regardless of all of the above, if you want to use a cleaner who is paid in cash, you make the effort to go to the cash point. Where there’s a will there’s a way as they say.

Some people are just very hard work, and will find a problem with everything, in which case I think the cleaner would probably be glad to see the back of you.

MrsColon · 18/11/2021 08:27

We take out a couple of hundred at a time and keep it in the car - cash is sometimes handy to have. You don't need to take out cash every week, just every couple of months. Not a big deal, surely?

As PP said, she might be in debt or have a huge overdraft so anything that goes into the bank is swallowed up.

Starcaller · 18/11/2021 08:27

I'd find it a pain too. We have one cash point in the village and it's broken 50% of the time. I'm self-employed and make it as easy as possible for clients to pay me! Window cleaner, gardener etc all take bank transfer.
