Farting or blow off ?

Cheekytea · 14/11/2021 19:20

Help settle a argument for me

My two and half year old finds it very funny she farts she smiles and giggles and tells everyone she farted,
Hubby not so impressed I taught her to saying farting and thinks the respectful term to teach her is " blow off " or other phrases so I'm asking you all what do you call farting in your household ? And what do they say in school etc

Thanks

We use fart but used trump when very little/pre school age as friends with children similar age treated fart like a swear weird. Fart doesn't bother me at all.

We referred to "letting off" as children in the 80s. Not sure we had a noun. Wouldn't have been allowed to say fart.

@Palavah

*Passing gas?

Only in a Brooklyn accent*

I don't understand...

Welshiefluff · 14/11/2021 20:05

I have a dictionary on my bookshelf and the definition of a fart is an excretion of gas from the anus. To me that is a lot more accurate than all the other bull shit terms many of you are using.

My 2 year old says fart. He says fart because fart is the correct word to use. It is not offensive or a swear word.

ThreeLocusts · 14/11/2021 20:05

Fascinating thread. German for 'fart' is 'Furz' so it could be worse. Maybe that's why we've never bothered with circumlocutions in our house.

Pieceofpurplesky · 14/11/2021 20:06

Trump here.

I also hate pump off

Vanuatu · 14/11/2021 20:06

Definitely going to call it a Gary from now on Grin

MrsJohnBender84 · 14/11/2021 20:06

Windy pops, Whizz bangs, Bum explosions, Guffreys and Farty boom booms in our house....don't think your husband would like us much 🤣

Danikm151 · 14/11/2021 20:07

For my 1 year old we’re saying tooty bum bum. But he’s now got a fart ninja so guess it will be fart 😂

Tulips15 · 14/11/2021 20:07

I hate the word fart .
My kids all say it 🙄
I say' passing wind'.

Cryalot2 · 14/11/2021 20:07

We mostly say "passing wind"

JammyGem · 14/11/2021 20:07

We say toot when DD's around to hear, otherwise it's fart.

NigellaSeed · 14/11/2021 20:07

I call it a Fluffy. As in I let Fluffy off the chain.

mommybear1 · 14/11/2021 20:07

Windy pops for my DS4 Grin

QueenLagertha · 14/11/2021 20:09

We say "burps" 😂 it's what the nursery calls them and it's just stuck. I don't like to hear young kids say "fart". Sounds vulgar

TweeBee · 14/11/2021 20:09

We always have said trump. However this meant my then 5 year old loved Donald which was a bit awkward!

icedcoffees · 14/11/2021 20:09

Do all the adults who go around saying they've "fluffed"? know that a "fluffer" in porn is someone who goes around giving head to actors in between shoots to make sure they're hard? Grin

Badabingbadabum · 14/11/2021 20:10

Trump, bum trump or just breaking wind. Although my two dds are aware of fart and use it occasionally which I'm fine with - it's not exactly a swear word! Blow off is awful.

Thanks to my dm I grew up calling them creepy mouses. As in "have you done a creepy mouse?" Blush I think if there was a prize for the most twee, cringworthy, Victorian name for a fart, this would win it!

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 14/11/2021 20:10

Pumping means fucking so no to that one.

I find it crackers that people think 'farting' is so very awful and that 'bum puffs' and 'fluff' far more acceptable.

Just say 'fart', and stop being a tweeirdo.

Louisa4987 · 14/11/2021 20:10

This thread has made my day!

My 2 year old says pop pop or noisy bumBlush

Doomscrolling · 14/11/2021 20:11

Trumped or had wind when younger. Fart when older. Guffed, to make my son laugh.

JurgensCakeBaby · 14/11/2021 20:11

That's it from now on I'm actually going to use Gary. Gavel.

Houseofvelour · 14/11/2021 20:12

2 and 3 yr old DDs and we use 'botty burp'.

I say fart all the time but agree it's not appropriate for little ones so I say botty burp around them.

RosieGuacamosie · 14/11/2021 20:12

My ex used to call a fart a poop and used to ask “have you just pooped?”. Erm no, I haven’t just shat myself thanks Confused

EgSk · 14/11/2021 20:12

We just say fart in our house!

TuftyMarmoset · 14/11/2021 20:12

@thepeopleversuswork I didn’t learn the word fart until school and literally nothing happened as a result of that.

@EatYourVegetables it iswind to me, rather than a fart. Hence the term trapped wind (or do people say trapped fart?)
