Farting or blow off ?

Cheekytea · 14/11/2021 19:20

Help settle a argument for me

My two and half year old finds it very funny she farts she smiles and giggles and tells everyone she farted,
Hubby not so impressed I taught her to saying farting and thinks the respectful term to teach her is " blow off " or other phrases so I'm asking you all what do you call farting in your household ? And what do they say in school etc

Thanks

I disagree with PPs saying other parents are wrong to use cuter words. There's time enough for children to grow up and use medically accurate words, let them be little for a while. Same way we talk about Santa, tooth fairy and Easter bunny.
It's a difference in parenting style. We don't all have to be the same.

Trouser cough

SparrowNest · 14/11/2021 19:52

We say toot. Would probably have gone with trump if we hadn’t lived in America for the first part of DD1’s life

Herewegoagain84 · 14/11/2021 19:52

My toddler says pop pop

thepeopleversuswork · 14/11/2021 19:52

@Bloodypunkrockers

It's a fart

Can't stand all those twee, cringey expressions. I would include hubby in that too

This.

If you feel the need to censor the word “fart” you’re going to have a hard time when your kids get to secondary.

You’ll give your kids unnecessary hang ups if you use twee substitutes as well.

@warmeduppizza

Doesn’t anyone pass wind anymore?
Christ that's even worse than puff!
Starcaller · 14/11/2021 19:53

Pmsl at Gary GrinGrinGrin

LuluBlakey1 · 14/11/2021 19:54

DH and I say fart but when the DC are there- all little- we calls it 'tooting' .

Lairymary · 14/11/2021 19:54

Fart is awful, I would hate it if my toddler used it. Currently struggling to get them to say bottom instead of bum. She doesn't quite know what "bottom gas" is but "pop off's" will be encouraged. Blow off was used in my house growing up as well "big job" (cringe) for a poo!!!

WafflesOrIceCream · 14/11/2021 19:56

My DD says "Trump" and we like to say "pass wind" I don't like the using the word "Fart"

JayAlfredPrufrock · 14/11/2021 19:56

Gary 😂😂😂

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 14/11/2021 19:56

Blow off is gross.

We say 'puff'

littlebigtiger · 14/11/2021 19:56

I remember being about 10 and a girl at school saying "I'm going for a slash from my gash" instead of wee.

Ah, growing up in a rough part of Norfolk in the 90's. I'm less rough now, I just say piss.

Bottom!
Anonymous48 · 14/11/2021 19:57

Does no one else say "passing gas"? Fart definitely sounds vulgar for a 2 year old, and there's really no need for all those other euphemisms.

MaxNormal · 14/11/2021 19:57

I'm also loving Gary Grin

"Who Garried, its stinking in here!"

I love that the nursery don't like Gary. What did he ever do to them? Grin

You do know it’s a losing battle don’t you?

If you impose these twee and sanitised words on your kids you are just inviting them to use even ruder words.

Fart is a perfectly good Anglo Saxon word. It was good enough for Queen Elizabeth I, it’s good enough for me.

I don’t want want my child growing into a mini Hyacinth Bouquet.

Starcaller · 14/11/2021 19:59

Whoops, I've just dropped a massive Gary, sorry everyone.

Passing gas?

Only in a Brooklyn accent

RagzReturnsRebooted · 14/11/2021 19:59

@JurgensCakeBaby

😂😂😂 I didn't mean Gary, I meant fart, even my autocorrect doesn't like it!!
That's a shame, I thought it was hilarious that you called farts Gary Grin

We've always said fart and it never occurred to me that it was a rude word!

EatYourVegetables · 14/11/2021 19:59

@SalsaLove : AMAZING!! 😂

@JurgensCakeBaby I howled with laughter at you calling farts “Gary”, and some poor nursery ladies who might have a friend or a relative with that name trying to gently point out that it’s an unsuitable name for a fart 😂 Slightly disappointed that it was an autocorrect 😂

And yes this thread is bonkers, stop clutching your pearls and just call things what they are.

Concestor · 14/11/2021 20:01

When mine were little we said windy, as in Did you do a windy? But we now say fart (youngest is 7)

TuftyMarmoset · 14/11/2021 20:01

I say break wind or pass wind. Never heard blow off.

FluffyBooBoo · 14/11/2021 20:02

Well that certainly puts a different spin on my name ..
