AIBU to find it utterly astounding that it's socially acceptable in England for pet cats to poop in other people's gardens??!

I honestly cannot get my head round this. We've moved into a new house and the garden is full of cat shit. Not a single cat owner I know has a little tray for their cat to use. Where do cat owners think their cats poop? Do you honestly not care that it's in other peoples gardens?
My dh is from in a country where this is not socially acceptable and cat owners have litter trays and the cats bloody use them.

I’d love to see some photos of these ‘plant destroying’ cats? I’m imagining something quite ferocious.

I’ve had cats all my life and never once have I seen or heard of a cat poo on a patio.

I think this particular cat must be trying to tell you something Dreamstate. I wonder what it could be?

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 08/11/2021 15:42
@Dreamstate you literally sit in your house and watch a car shit on your patio instead of shooing them off? Why would you do that?

And other cats do poo in my garden I've seen them scraping in the leaves and slate we have.
Or rather a cat. Never seen a car shit on a patio. But saying that, I've never seen a cat do it either

EdenFlower · 08/11/2021 16:18

Can someone explain how to cat-proof a garden? If it was that simple wouldn't the cat-haters have cat-proofed their gardens years ago?

Porcupineintherough · 08/11/2021 16:21

@EdenFlower no because a) it costs money b) lots of people have cats precisely because they want a pet that is minimal care and they see them fouling other people's gardens as a bonus.

Yes that is one of the main reasons I had a cat. Just so it would shit in the neighbours garden.. you've got me

Lifewith · 08/11/2021 16:25

Cat hating thread. Again.
What about all the bloody dog poo out there in public?
Dogs are everywhere these days and not all have responsible owners.

🤣 This is why everyone gets a cat isn't it? We wouldn't get threads like this without cats. It's got to be worth getting a cat for the comedy value.

Legit the only reason for their existence 🤣

'Cat hating thread. Again.'

Cat poo in my garden hating thread tbf.

Lifewith · 08/11/2021 16:34

Same thing.

SueSaid · 08/11/2021 16:37

'Same thing.'

It isn't. My friend has a cat it's very cute, I don't mind them at all. Just not in my garden scaring the birds.

Pointless thread again as it's not going to change because no laws are being broken.

So you don't mind the poo? You've been ranting about it for days!

How do you feel about lions killing animals?

mathanxiety · 08/11/2021 16:41

It's not ok for your dog to crap in other people's gardens but it's ok for cats to because dogs and cats are in different categories of owner control and different categories of innate nature according to the law.

Oh for goodness sake, you can't keep all cats locked up.

It is a pointless thread. It really is.

SueSaid · 08/11/2021 16:47

No no I do mind the poo! Someone said it was a cat hating thread and I pointed out no it isn't it's other people's pets in my garden hating thread.

Also I've just been ranting today about poo on this thread, not days thanks very much.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 08/11/2021 16:47

Yup and it will be a pointless thread next week.

And the thread about dogs on leads, how many times an hour you shower, how often your towels are washed..

Yet I still bite.. every single time 🤣

Sidehustle99 · 08/11/2021 16:47

It's well know fact city cats wear boots and coats and carry their poop around in knotted hankies on sticks to deposit in the gardens of meanies.

Seriously though most cats with litter trays still prefer to poop outdoors. They don't like shitting in gravel.

There are worse things - birds shitting on laundry. Dogs shitting on doorsteps. Was the house empty for a while? Just get some of those anti cat spinning thingies or a dog SMH

SueSaid · 08/11/2021 16:49

'How do you feel about lions killing animals?'

Well fine, they aren't domestic pets. I wouldn't be so keen on a domestic dog mauling a cat or something would you?

onlychildhamster · 08/11/2021 16:58

I actually don't think its a good idea for cats to be let out unless you live in the countryside and are far from any roads. But thats not the case for most homes in the UK. I live in London and cats are always getting run over. I am no big cat lover, but its really sad seeing the remains of pet cats on the road. Half the posts on our neighbourhood facebook group are about missing cats. If they were wild animals, it would be just life but as pet cats have owners (and now legally have to be microchipped), the owner should do everything in his/her power to protect the cat from danger and that is impossible to do if the cat is wandering the streets alone. Cat owners should provide adequate enrichment indoors/build a catio in their back garden.

onlychildhamster · 08/11/2021 16:58

And my solution would also solve the cat poop problem.

I'm not keen on anything killing anything. Humans included in that. But I accept that there are carnivores and they hunt and to be able to live a fulfilled life some cats do it. Mine all wear bells but it doesn't stop it. As an owner I deal with their (it's only ever been 1 of my cats). Some have survived and been nursed back to health and released again
montysma1 · 08/11/2021 17:14

Well its still shit. Or is wild amimal shit less disgusting?
I presume you shit?
That ends up in some aquatic creatures habitat.
