To think fireworks should only be allowed on the 5th

I've basically come for a rant, but I've got a three month old DD going through a sleep regression and the sodding things keep going off outside. It's the 6th and firework night is over!!! AngryAngry

Don't even get me started. YANBU

mbosnz · 06/11/2021 19:30

Diwali?

recededpronunciation · 06/11/2021 19:31

5th, Diwali and New Year’s Eve would work for me. Silent ones any other time.

TuftyRusty · 06/11/2021 19:31

Yup, here they go on for two weeks well past midnight - we have a dog and it’s really stressful. My DH works shifts - as an airline pilot. Being woken up at 2 am by fireworks isn’t great when he’s got to fly 180 passengers at 6 am. Personally I wish sales to private individuals would be banned so it was just limited to public displays.

recededpronunciation · 06/11/2021 19:32

Or the weekend nearest the 5th - easier for all the school kids.

Feckauras · 06/11/2021 19:32

Well no, not every country in the uk celebrates the 5th. In NI, Halloween is more of a celebration and no one celebrates the 5th.

Neron · 06/11/2021 19:33

Agree. They've been going off every day for over 2 weeks now.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 06/11/2021 19:34

Meh not something I’m too bothered about! I love fireworks, but so think they should be limited to a few days and between 7-9pm!

Scabetty · 06/11/2021 19:34

Diwali was 4th this year so Thurs, Fri and this weekend will be celebrations for both Diwali and Guy Fawkes.

A580Hojas · 06/11/2021 19:37

Yabu. Or do you live in one of those horribly all-white areas with literally no one around you who might want to celebrate Diwali? If not - educate yourself.

DailyRepeatGuarantee · 06/11/2021 19:38

Ynbu. But it's Saturday and it's town display night. The weekend I think is fair enough but not more.

What'd be better is to ban noise creating ones.

vanillaskies · 06/11/2021 19:39

I grew up in North London so I'm well used to Diwali. It was earlier this week however, so perhaps you should educate yourself too?

I think it’s time to restrict the sale to organised displays only. Drunken twats setting them off at 3 am outside my house last night.
This goes on for weeks.

etulosba · 06/11/2021 19:45

Racist.

givethatbabyaname · 06/11/2021 19:46

You’re tired and grumpy because of the baby.

One day you’ll see that the inconvenience to you over your baby’s brief babyhood isn’t worth cracking down on fireworks, for everyone, for every reason but Nov 5th, forever more.

RaisedByPangolins · 06/11/2021 19:46

As the weekend closest to Guy Fawkes and Diwali of course there will still be fireworks tonight. Our local town does them on the Sunday night closest to bonfire night so will still be going on tomorrow.

Some people/animals don’t like them, but they’re a thing so you’ll have to deal with it a few nights of the year.

TuftyRusty · 06/11/2021 19:49

@RaisedByPangolins it’s not just a few nights though - we often get them start in October and go on until January. Busiest around bonfire and NYE but it’s hardly condensed to just a few nights. It’s on and off for weeks! It’s really disruptive and stressful if you have small kids, pets, work shifts etc.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 06/11/2021 19:50

Yanbu, they are a pain in the arse.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 06/11/2021 19:51

I dont care about the date but I think they shouldnt be allowed after 8pm.

Ericaequites · 06/11/2021 19:51

There should be no sales of fireworks to private persons; only licensed folks should set them off. They cause noise pollutions, are a fire danger, and can cause severe injury or death. I worked not forty feet from the Station Fire. One hundred persons died in agony from unsafe pyrotechnics and blocked fire exits.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 06/11/2021 19:54

I think organised displays only and limited at that. Not a joy thief but it's a joke during cop26.

askingforafriend80 · 06/11/2021 20:29

Agree 100% our twatty neighbours did tell us they were having fireworks… at a set time

They set them off 40 mins early Angry dcat was still out but luckily ok it was horrible.

Licenses displays only or silent fireworks I don’t see how the noise benefits anyone!

askingforafriend80 · 06/11/2021 20:29

Licensed*

NotMyCircusNotMyProblem · 06/11/2021 20:41

I would prefer them to be available to licensed professionals only. For use on the 5th and over the nearest weekend to the 5th. Alternatively, only silent fireworks for sale to the general public.

As the owner of two horses and two dogs, all nervous wrecks because of the fireworks, I'm sick to the back teeth of hearing them. It's no longer bonfire night - more bonfire fortnight and beyond. Enough already Angry

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 06/11/2021 20:42

Chinese New Year as well op....is that allowed or not?
