To think fireworks should only be allowed on the 5th

I've basically come for a rant, but I've got a three month old DD going through a sleep regression and the sodding things keep going off outside. It's the 6th and firework night is over!!! AngryAngry

I have a 4 month old but am very meh about the fireworks as I know that once he is older he will love them.

SweetBabyCheeses99 · 06/11/2021 23:35

It’s already illegal to set them off after a certain time, 11pm I think except for NYE obvs. I actually have no idea how yobs can afford them!

idontlikealdi · 06/11/2021 23:50

We'll they're al still going off here, kids are asleep but but the dog is going mental probably waking up the neighbours kids. They don't need to be so fucking loud. Organised displays for Diwali, the 5th, and NYE. They shouldn't be on sale to general twats. That poor footballer was incredibly lucky not to be injured.

Bellfor · 07/11/2021 00:19

It was on Thursday 4th. As Diwali isn't a national holiday, many Hindus choose to celebrate at the weekend.

Maverickess · 07/11/2021 00:26

Can hear them in the distance still here but luckily not close enough to upset the residents I work with for once, last night was awful and we've had that in varying degrees for a fortnight, it's windy as fook though tonight so I'm not sure it's very sensible sending alight, mini explosives into the sky when the wind is blowing trees down......

mockingjaye · 07/11/2021 00:28

I had to do fireworks on the 4th because I work shifts, and can't take my little girl to the displays. Most people are sensible. Fireworks at home was far more common when I was growing up.

SleepingStandingUp · 07/11/2021 00:30

Yabu to think that celebrating not blowing up the King is worthy of the disruption but celebrations like Diwali aren't. Also how would you police it.

Yanbu to be pissed off with fireworks given you've a sleep regressing tiny beast who really doesn't need any encouragement to not sleep.

MsDidoTwite · 07/11/2021 00:31

No 11pm curfew being observed around here tonight or any night for the past two weeks Sad

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/11/2021 00:49

I think it should be the Saturday nearest to the 5th, rather than the actual 5th, so more people can go and enjoy them. At the professional displays it will be limited to in this imaged scenario.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/11/2021 00:49

And yes should be for Diwali too if that’s different to said Saturday

WeasilyPleased · 07/11/2021 01:05

Fireworks should be banned full stop.

tallduckandhandsome · 07/11/2021 01:13

Not this again. We don’t do fireworks or even go to a bonfire but so tired of all the lamenting threads.

It’s every frigging year so it’s hardly a surprise is it?

Write to your MP instead of moan, moan, moan.

Snugglybuggly · 07/11/2021 01:32

Agreed

youkiddingme · 07/11/2021 03:02

Considering the state of the planet, the harm that can be done, and the distress they cause to some people and many animals, I think they should be banned.

Offmyfence · 07/11/2021 03:25

@generalh

Absolutely yes they should be on the 5th only.
But that only allows use for one celebration. What about all the others?
Yogaandcocoa · 07/11/2021 03:41

I agree with you partly but it's understandable people do them on a weekend if bonfire night is on a weekday. There is also Diwali.

People just seem to do them whenever though and it's unnecessary.

Ostagazuzulum · 07/11/2021 04:25

No, what about those that work shifts such as nurses etc who can't make 5th and want that experience with their children?
However it should be organised events only, ( fireworks not sold to public for private displays) and quiet or low bang to consider wildlife / pets who are scared by them.

bedbathandbeyond · 07/11/2021 07:01

It's not just animals and the environment that suffer, many many people are triggered by fireworks (myself included) and it's absolutely horrendous for them.
Don't let our suffering stop you from enjoying it though. As a disabled person I'm basically a second class citizen anyway so I'm used to it.

MagentaRocks · 07/11/2021 07:43

@A580Hojas

Yabu. Or do you live in one of those horribly all-white areas with literally no one around you who might want to celebrate Diwali? If not - educate yourself.
Wow. So rude. The point is that fireworks are being let off in the name of bonfire night over several nights. Of course there are other occasions that fireworks might be let off but this is about bonfire night being over several days.
OnlyFoolsnMothers · 07/11/2021 07:45

I’d rather allow fireworks all year and restrict house parties. We all get annoyed by things- sadly the world can’t revolve around us!

FreedomFaith · 07/11/2021 07:59

This. People have been known to complain about church bells being too loud. When is this madness actually going to stop? Confused

I've got two horses by the way and had multiple pets over the years. None of them are or have been afraid of fireworks, but we reach them not to be. Horses though can just be idiots even on a normal day, they don't need big bangs to scare themselves into a frenzy. A leaf could do it. We going to ban leaves next? Hmm

antsinyourpanta · 07/11/2021 08:07

I can deal with a few days of them (but I'm lucky that fireworks have never really disturbed my DC even when they were babies) but last night( well this morning) I heard someone setting some off at 3.55am which is horribly unsocial (I can't imagine how many people were actually around to see them at that time Hmm) and I had thought it was safe to let the cats out after 11.

Simonjt · 07/11/2021 08:12

So people can celebrate bonfire night as usual, but diwali, eid al-fitr, nye and chinese new year aren’t?

Whstdoyouthink · 07/11/2021 08:19

Meh….you’ll be the ones doing it when you’d baby is older. 3months is a tiring time

Branleuse · 07/11/2021 08:33

Absolutely. People only enjoy fireworks because they hate babies and dogs. No other explanation
