To think fireworks should only be allowed on the 5th

I've basically come for a rant, but I've got a three month old DD going through a sleep regression and the sodding things keep going off outside. It's the 6th and firework night is over!!! AngryAngry

Itd be impossible to police.

I do think it should be silent ones or licensed displays only. Why do they need a bang clap if you want a noise so badly

That is what I don't understand? Why are they so loud?! Are people seeking out the biggest bangs or are the firework makers just making them all louder? I'm sure they didn't used to be this loud.

If it is possible for them to be quieter I think the companies who make them should be required to keep them below a certain noise level. It should be their responsibility to not make the product they're selling a public nuisance.

I would love to take my little boy out to enjoy the fireworks but he can't stand the huge bangs and gets really upset.

@A580Hojas

Yabu. Or do you live in one of those horribly all-white areas with literally no one around you who might want to celebrate Diwali? If not - educate yourself.
Wow, poor attempt.
Supermohican · 06/11/2021 21:15

@xxxGirlCrushxxx

Chinese New Year as well op....is that allowed or not?
Actually I don’t think loud bangs should be allowed at all. Sorry for setting myself up for being ignorant of culture (I am not). But PTSD sufferers, animals and children with additional needs trump that. Let’s be a bit more progressive.
Voord · 06/11/2021 21:28

The 5th of each month or just November?

Divebar2021 · 06/11/2021 21:34

I think once your child is older you’ll realise how unreasonable you are. The majority of kids love fireworks and we’ve already (mostly) lost the bonfire and “guy” tradition along the way that contributed greatly to bonfire night traditions. When I was growing up people mostly had their own fireworks so there has been a big shift to organised displays.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 06/11/2021 21:40

YABU.

It won’t be many years and you’ll be concerned that the 5th falls on a weekday and your precious dc will be too tired if the fireworks keep them awake so can’t they be done on a weekend.

And what about Eid, Diwali and other celebrations?

Hope you get some sleep soon op so you’re more able to see things from different perspectives!

generalh · 06/11/2021 21:42

Absolutely yes they should be on the 5th only.

Supermohican · 06/11/2021 21:42

My dc hate them and are all well beyond the tiny years. It’s quite patronising to suggest that it’s an age thing.
My dc care about other people, animals and the effect on them. Have them by all means but they don’t need to be so loud. It’s 9:45 now and in my area they have been going since about 5pm.

Supermohican · 06/11/2021 21:43

And I am sick of spending £30 for a tube of sileo every few days because this is spread out over months not days. It won’t end until new year.

00100001 · 06/11/2021 21:52

@generalh

Absolutely yes they should be on the 5th only.
Except when the 5th falls on a school night, in which case it should be only on the Saturday...or Friday nearest to the 5th... Except unless you're in an area where people have to go to work early the next day, in which case they're entirely banned, except if it's a licensed event, which is nowhere near houses or livestock, which is enforced by a 1 mile exclusion zone, that is patrolled and cleared daily until the event takes place. Except if that is a conservation area. All other dates will be banned. New year's celebrations are cancelled. Except in London, because they out on a good show most years. Sorry to the celebrants of different new years, you're just not important enough. Oh and sorry, just to make sure, no other events ever. Unless we hist the Olympics, then it's fine.
Rosebel · 06/11/2021 21:56

I do like them but they don't bother my baby or cats. The only thing is that some people set them off so late. They were still going on at 12 last night and they are still going on now.
However it's only a week or two (or at least has been round here).

Sarwrigh · 06/11/2021 22:01

The world doesn’t revolve around your domestic circumstances, so no.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 06/11/2021 22:06

No because a lot of the public displays have been on tonight and last night and probs tomorrow too. And of course there is Diwali.

I grew up in North London so I'm well used to Diwali. It was earlier this week however, so perhaps you should educate yourself too?
@vanillaskies it was actually yesterday

Kinsters · 06/11/2021 22:15

I like fireworks. I'm sure they disturb some children and animals but there will be plenty of others who aren't bothered or enjoy them so I don't see why they should be limited to only one night.

For some celebrations the noise is important, Chinese New year for example the noise is supposed to scare away any malevolent spirits. The traditional chinese firecrackers don't light up at all, the only point of them is to make a really loud noise.

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 06/11/2021 22:24

Why can't they all be low noise though? I love fireworks and took my kids to a low noise one this year which they really enjoyed. What's the point of the bang if they can be made without? They're just as pretty at a lower volume and everybody gets to enjoy them. Why exclude so many people from being able to celebrate with fireworks, not to mention all the harm done to animals, when it can apparently be done without the noise? I genuinely don't get it.

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 06/11/2021 22:24

Cross post with the Kinsters

XelaM · 06/11/2021 22:26

I love fireworks but we have pets, so I always buy the "low noise" firework packs at ASDA. They are exactly the same only quiet. Why can't everyone do the same?

XelaM · 06/11/2021 22:26

@ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings Snap! Completely agree

TrashyPanda · 06/11/2021 22:31

@recededpronunciation

Or the weekend nearest the 5th - easier for all the school kids.
This is probably why nutters have been letting fireworks off around here tonight. And it’s just selfish.

there’s no reason to do this, cos it is dark really early now the clocks have gone back. You can have your fireworks at 6 and have the kids in bed by 7.

Keep the 5th of November as Bonfire Night.

Fabvegetablegrower · 06/11/2021 22:34

By the time they are 15 you won't care.

foreverandalways · 06/11/2021 22:35

INCONSIDERATE T...TS!!!😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

FingersofFish · 06/11/2021 22:44

I think the week around any festival is fine but I do feel banging ones should be banned for home use, there are quiet ones and they're equally good but don't disturb people or pets. We had a few small fireworks of our own tonight contained within our own garden and no noise but I would rather be at a proper display once kids are older that's my intention.

TheCatWearsPrada · 06/11/2021 22:56

I'm sick of idiots round here aiming them at people and cars.
