Who is she anyway? She will not out herself but I recognise the tone.

onebatmotherofgoditschilly · 12/12/2007 21:41

teeeny clue?

MegaLegs · 12/12/2007 21:41

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 12/12/2007 21:42

I know too! The clues are out there, a bit like the aliens really!

Not necessary at all to correct people on here. This is a chat room, not a GCSE English revision forum.

onebatmotherofgoditschilly · 12/12/2007 21:43

jinglebells2shoessmells · 12/12/2007 21:47

because if you are writing a letter you take your time. and if i am posting a serious post(say in sn) i preview) but on a jokey thread........no way

OP posts:
OldfeckinsenseandSlur · 12/12/2007 22:15

Also because when you're posting it is more like talking than writing imo so you use short hand, slang, jokey phrases, sewaring, and fuck loads of other stuff I wouldn't put in a formal letter.

Plus you want to type fast like 2 shoes said. quicker than me .

OldfeckinsenseandSlur · 12/12/2007 22:17

hmm sewaring conjures up images of delving deep into rivers of filth, so yes possibly not dissimilar to swearing which was what I meant to say of course.

jinglebells2shoessmells · 12/12/2007 22:26

i like the sound of sewaring

Where did I correct Fio's grammar?! Link me immediately! (Please )

I think you are just Dana-bashing: (jumping on band-wagon so to speak); people correct grammar on here every single day of the week!

OldfeckinsenseandSlur · 12/12/2007 22:32

Nah! (see my slang there ) Because you can forget yourself when in a park on a bike, you can get careless and its actually okay, whereas on a road you are more careful. So tricky words (commonly misspelt) would be checked in formal situation but on a quick fire post why bother? it's more important to answer quickly and clearly rather than grammatically accurately.

Unless its an important serious issue when I think everyone ups their game

edam · 12/12/2007 22:33

Thing is, 2shoes, those are your rules - not everyone else knows about them much less lives by them. And MN is all about written communication. If you choose to mis-spell or mis-use apostrophes, you are inviting comment...

DanaScully · 12/12/2007 22:34

I like you Edam

OldfeckinsenseandSlur · 12/12/2007 22:37

edam, I think it is acceptable that there are different levels of formality in written communication, with for example, txt spk being at the very bottom

Communication is what mn is about the fact it is written is not as important.

Again I point out it does depend on the thread, but I am not riled by bad spellers or grammar abusers, but I know that I am not much of a pedant

edam · 12/12/2007 22:43

I suspect I know you, Dana?

Oldfeck (blimey, the for sale huns would blanch at that abbreviation) I'm not saying one should impose some sort of artificial standard on posts... but the fact that MN just is written means that sloppy writing will be noticeable and inevitably sometimes attract comment.

I dunno, if I was posting on a Sudoku site, I wouldn't be surprised if someone corrected any mathematical errors.
