Supposedly, Johnson didn't just take a private jet back from COP26. He took a private jet back from COP26 so he could make it in time for a slap-up dinner at the Garrick Club (no women admitted) with climate change denier Charley Moore. Make of that what you will.

OMG. I am beyond incensed by that. I assumed he was needed for some important PM business. There are no words hideous enough to describe this ‘man’.

However, it’s not surprising. It has always been clear that BJ lacks any kind of integrity. He is dishonest and self serving. Cares about no one but himself. We only have ourselves to blame for voting such a #%^** in (I didn’t though).

Zanina · 06/11/2021 00:16

Pretty sure he was meeting the guys at the Telegraph to stop them publishing some dirt they have on him. Obviously had to get there super quick to stop them.

Bastards the lot of them. The rich are fucking greedy. Royal women / wives of the corruption men wearing green to make us think they're now tree huggers. Constant fucking lies. Surely we need to march down to downing Street / parliament and get these twats out of office. I don't believe for one fucking second that there isn't enough money in this country to fix our problems (NHS and helping the poor). And these bastards have known about climate change for fucking decades, instead of doing something about it they've convinced us to recycle and grow flowers. Fucking con artists the lot of them

Unsuremover · 06/11/2021 00:37

Yup I read this after keeping the heating off while working from home today. Washed my clothes at 20 on the eco wash and walked bloody veggies back from the shop on the way home from school. Also mail because the local milk I get delivered in glass bottles was nicked of the door step. From my cold office, I can watch delegates driving back from COP, I don’t live in the greater Glasgow area. Then driving back to the airport. I feel guilty as I had to replace plastic coats bought 3 years ago because we’ve tramped about so much in the local are for 2 years they aren’t up to the job. If I was a prince or a prime minister I could afford a coat that would last a life time.
Is there any point? Any at all when clearly some people are doing nothing. I actually don’t think there is anymore.

Plenty of people would vote them in again tomorrow, including loads of posters on MN. Angry
Mantlemoose · 06/11/2021 01:42

Every single person that travelled there has to take some responsibility. No point in singling out 2.

Rubyupbeat · 06/11/2021 03:44

Much as I dislike both men mentioned, the private jet business is literally a drop in the ocean, with all the other air traffic going on.
Unless we all boycott foreign holidays, then we are all hypocrites by adding to the problem..

noodlezoodle · 06/11/2021 05:10

Obviously it's hugely hypocritical, so I'm quite intrigued about why *% of people think you're being unreasonable!

emmathedilemma · 06/11/2021 07:04

It's not just them, Edinburgh airport was rammed with private jets and national aircraft. Joe Biden arrived with 2 planes and a cavalcade of 23 huge vehicles and commuted from edinburgh to Glasgow both days. Judging by the number of police manning major junctions in Edinburgh he's not the only one. So that's 100 mile round trip and a shed load of police resources being used up, plus travel and accommodation for all the extra police.

MsJinks · 06/11/2021 07:14

Private jets are not a drop in the ocean, they emit 5-14 times more polluting per passenger, and a private flight apparently uses one quarter of a person’s average yearly carbon print.
It’s beyond hypocritical the private jets, motorcades etc for a climate change conference.
I do think we will all start having to use air travel less, but to counteract the carbon required for rich and important folks’ need to fly privately. This will be sold to us as necessary for our children’s future of course and us being selfish if we don’t comply.
It’s always rich comes first, and poor work to maintain them, and I mean individuals upto countries, and in whatever way is needed at the time, so it used to be digging crops and paying taxes, but now includes less flying and more recycling. However, the rich person’s use od the poor is becoming more and more blatant again. Please note I mean poor in the loosest sense as in not super rich/powerful - essentially class based in the U.K. still I tend to think. I’m glad the young are at least protesting and hope they can improve things for their generation.

CallMeRisley · 06/11/2021 07:19

Does anyone know how Greta Thunberg travelled?

Etinoxaurus · 06/11/2021 07:42

A quick google would have told you train Why do you want to know? She usually takes trains and boats to get around. Are you trying to discredit her?
antsinyourpanta · 06/11/2021 07:52

Agreed it seems ridiculous and hypocritical from both them and the other delegates.

While I'm all for famous people celebrities using their status to promote causes that are close to their heart, it really jars when they preach about doing their bit for the environment and making sacrifices when most are enjoying a lifestyle that completely goes against this but paying a carbon fee or similar to off set it. (Plus they will be in a better financial position to be early adopters of expensive eco alternatives )
As an aside, and I know it will involve very few people comparatively but why the hell is space travel for leisure being floated as an idea in the current climate?

JustDanceAddict · 06/11/2021 07:53

This is what really pisses me off.

CallMeRisley · 06/11/2021 07:53

@Etinoxaurus Sorry I think you’ve got the wrong end of the stick. I already had googled and knew she arrived by train. I was making the point of the juxtaposition/contrast between her, and the wider “youth” section she represents and the older “establishment” of BJ and Prince C. Maybe I should’ve put a winking face or something but you sort of jumped on me there. “Why do you want to know?”- it’s a whole thread about methods of travel to and from the event by high profile attendees, it’s just part of the conversation. “Are you trying to discredit her?”- no, because she arrived by train, in contrast to some of those mentioned here.

👍 and 💐 for snippiness.

@Mrsjayy

4 and a half hours on the bloody train but nah private jet ! And whilst we are at it how did Leonardo di caprio get here ?
Flew over; apparently made a big thing about it being a normal non private plane. No idea if it was still first class,or economy though.
antsinyourpanta · 06/11/2021 08:08

A lot of "doing something for the environment" seems to involve passing the problem to someone else.
I'm pretty sure the UK sends all our recycling overseas probably to countries we think criticise for pollution and carbon emissions

M and S several years ago claimed they were doing their bit for the environment by changing the washing labels in their clothes to 30°. So essentially its the consumers responsibility while still using 3 metres of clingfilm to wrap 4 apples or packaging fruit in hard plastic

wonderstuff · 06/11/2021 08:31

Marie Antoinette levels of tone deaf. The super rich have been getting richer for a while now, they increased wealth during the 2008 recession, during austerity and during the pandemic, being rich is really bad for the environment, it allows all sorts of anti-social behaviour, excess air travel being up there. I don’t know what the answer is, but I’m really angry that my sacrifices, not driving short distances, limiting my central heating use, reducing meat consumption etc, seem to be wiped out in a moment by these entitled men making no efforts at all, not even during a bloody conference in climate change.

KeflavikAirport · 06/11/2021 08:35

Just coming on to say FUCK JEFF BEZOS AND HIS PENIS ROCKET AND AMAZON PRIME AND SELLING POINTLESS MADE IN SWEATSHOP SHITE.

Perime · 06/11/2021 08:54

And why did Leo have to fly there. He isn't a policy maker surely he could haves Zoomed in. The Queen did!

Pazuzu · 06/11/2021 09:00

Wonder how much say the security details had in the travel arrangements especially given the militancy of some of the groups out there.

EatYourVegetables · 06/11/2021 09:00

That’s nasty and selfish so YANBU.

But - and I know you didn’t ask - to any posters who will use this as an excuse to continue driving SUVs and buying plastic tat and flying away for long weekends - YABU to do that - BoJo’s bad behaviour doesn’t excuse yours.

LakieLady · 06/11/2021 09:04

I think there shoukd be a legal limit on how many non-essential flights one person can take per year, and in my dictatorship essential wouod not include ‘my client wants to chat in person.’

I'd like to see every individual having an annual "air miles" allocation. Once you've used it up, you can only fly if you're prepared to buy the unused air miles of non-fliers.

Air miles travelled by private planes would be rated at 100 or more commercial air miles, because private air travel pollutes more, per passenger mile.

TractorAndHeadphones · 06/11/2021 09:07

Fucking disgusting thé lot of them

I've had one foreign holiday in the last 20 years. I really don't think that I'm a hypocrite for being cross about these supposed elite politicians travelling by private jet, to and from a climate change conference!!
