So sick of the constant stupid fireworks

When will they hurry up and ban fireworks for private sale?
Have 2 dogs shivering under the sofa. Huge bangs outside. What if you have a baby in bed?
Anti social behaviour if you ask me.
Take your kids to a proper display.

5am ? That is outrageous 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬[/quote]
Yep 5am almost a whole 24 fucking hours after they began. Honestly I'm not a fun sponge but it's a bloody joke that it's allowed. A public display wouldn't be allowed at 5am and people get cross in the summer when their neighbours mow the lawn early or let the kids out before 8am to play but fireworks at 2 and 5am yeah that's fine and we should just out up with it because it's only 1 night a year. Hmm

Novemberchild2 · 06/11/2021 07:04

Rural area here and heard hardly anything. I think it depends where you live, city estates probably pretty loud and ongoing, where we live barely notice them. Add double glazing and the TV on and nothing at all.

Autumnscene · 06/11/2021 07:14

I’m very rural too here and didn’t hear a thing. But the 7 houses in the area are very spread out, I know them all, no kids. It’s likely they went to the event in the nearest town 50 mins away.

User135644 · 06/11/2021 07:17

People setting them off loudly in residential neighbourhoods are sadists. It's animal cruelty.

User135644 · 06/11/2021 07:21

@Alleycat02

Yes, ban them please. Such an utter fucking pain in the arse.... I have no desire to waste money on an official display and hate the constant on-off for fucking weeks on end of people setting them off at any random time of night. Trying to get the children to bed is murder when they keep wanting to jump up and stare out of the window at them.

Bah humbug!!!

People who enjoy setting fireworks off and making loud bangs are either a bit simple, or just horrible people that enjoy terrifying people.

A proper organised display on November 5th is ok. Kids enjoy them.

Ban them.

User135644 · 06/11/2021 07:30

@JessCorroll

I don't understand how on one hand chasing foxes is cruel and illegal but blasting mortars off, every night, anywhere scaring the shit out of animals is legal. 😡😡😡😡
They're both sadistic past times.

People are so horrible and selfish.

@MrsKeats
Please don't swear at me. I have a genuine reason for hating dogs - badly bitten by one. Barking or being near one causes me significant distress and there are many more dogs around now. That Is my issue but I don't seek to ban others from enjoying what is important to then. I understand your situation, please respect mine. I have a disabled family member to whom fireworks are an important source of enjoyment even though I don't like them myself..

mydogisthebest · 06/11/2021 08:19

@PeachesPumpkin

To be fair, in my experience, dog owners have zero consideration for others, so I don’t see why we should be expected to stop a long-standing tradition which brings cheer to so many. I am sure there are responsible dog owners out there somewhere, but sadly I haven’t met any.
You have NEVER met a responsible dog owner!!! You can't have met many people then.

Many dog owners are responsible. I certainly am and so are all my friends.

To say dog owners have zero consideration for others is just ridiculous. There are good and bad dog owners.

Fireworks may bring cheer to some but they bring misery, injury and fear to many others and lots of animals.

If fireworks are to continue to be sold to the public then it should be the quieter ones. Normal households do not need fireworks that sound like bombs.

That is what so many of the firework lovers are ignoring, the fact that they do literally sound like bombs. They make a terrible noise which often echoes. When a firework going off down the road rattles my house's windows (not an old house) then there is something pretty wrong

PinkWaferBiscuit · 06/11/2021 08:24

I have a disabled family member to whom fireworks are an important source of enjoyment even though I don't like them myself.

But as I and many others have asked why can't these fireworks be enjoyed by people like your relative just as much without the loud noises?

Whinge · 06/11/2021 08:24

@PinkWaferBiscuit

I'm really sorry you and your toddler were woken by fireworks at such a ridiculous time. Sad You're right that other nuisance noise wouldn't be allowed, but hey if people want to set of actual explosives then that's considered fine. Confused

We were lucky here, they stopped at 1am. Although how crap is it that I should feel lucky that I and all my other neighbours who didn't set off fireworks, were only kept awake until 1am. Sad

Thanks so much for the sympathy and yes on reflection it's ridiculous that you're greatful to be kept up until only 1am.

I don't begrudge people enjoying an official firework display on the evening of November 5th.

They should not be on sale to the public though, it's a complete relic, dangerous, environmentally hazardous and downright cruel to pets; wildlife and people with strong sensory issues and aversion to stupidly loud noises.

People setting them off in back gardens of residential streets are just total selfish, thoughtless bastards. As are irresponsible dog owners.

Does anyone enjoy listening to world war three going off for hours on end? You'd have to be pretty sick to enjoy that, knowing all the people/pets/wildlife who'll be sat at home terrified.

An official display, fair enough. Sparklers, fair enough. A quiet display, fair enough. But that's not what we all have to deal with through November or new year.

GladAllOver · 06/11/2021 08:41

You're lucky you only get them at this time of year. There's a place near us that does weddings and it's apparently a thing now to end the reception with fireworks. So we get them on random Saturdays throughout the year.

PinkWaferBiscuit · 06/11/2021 08:46

Well no personally i don't know anyone who enjoys the noises that accompany them but people keep bringing up the enjoyment argument and I'm trying to understand why the lovely lights need to be accompanied by the loud bangs for them to be enjoyed.

If public only displays are apparently such a terrible idea to some who feel their right to to have home displays is essential then I'd be happy to settle at a compromise of silent or quiet fireworks to be used in private. There still many problems with this solution but surely these lovers of home displays couldn't argue with that?

XelaM · 06/11/2021 08:47

We have a dog and bought the "low noise" pet-friendly firework pack. No need to ban them, just get the low noise ones for pets

XelaM · 06/11/2021 08:49

Asda sell the low noise fireworks. I'm sure other retailers do too. Best of both worlds

MrsKeats · 06/11/2021 09:17

Midnight round here when it went quieter.
1am or 5am??! People have gone insane.

Finally packed up here at about 4am. Even with the sedative dog would not settle. DH stayed on the sofa with him.

Ghoulette · 06/11/2021 09:32

3am here the last of them went off. Woke us all up and had a panic attack

But don't worry we won't try and spoil your fabulous fun!!!!

Because it's not just about nervous dogs. It's about the huge amount of distress it causes people and kids with certain conditions too.

They shouldn't put up with having panic attacks and flashbacks just because dogs inconvenience you?

PinkWaferBiscuit · 06/11/2021 09:34

Sorry to see many others had just as late or should that really be early fireworks at their ends.

Do we think tonight will be better it worse? I'm hoping it'll be better, I'm honestly unsure how any of my neighbours would have any money left for more fireworks, but I fear I'm being incredibly optimistic. Sad

I have a disabled family member for who fireworks are a constant and awful nightmare for almost 4 months of the year. They are incredibly traumatic for some people.

Restriction would mean they are safe and that your disabled relative could still get enjoyment out of them by paying to go to a display. It's not that difficult to understand.

TheChip · 06/11/2021 09:36

Its been a build up over the past few nights before the big ones last night. I'm hoping they saved their best for lastnight and now have none left. But I hope this every year, and every year it continues a few nights after. Then randomly over the weeks up until the next big one at new year.

Very sorry to hear that you were bitten. You are perfectly entitled not to like dogs, especially given your experience.

I have family members with SEND who are incredibly distressed by fireworks. If it was 'just' bonfire night and NYE then we could plan for it (weighted blankets, ear defenders, dimly lit room to help with feeling overwhelmed). I have no issue at all with people wanting to go and enjoy a properly organised and licensed display. But as others have already said, it's not just a couple of nights, and it's not just organised displays - it's any random person letting them off whenever and wherever they want. And that's before you get into the risk of injury, fireworks being used as weapons, littering, air and noise pollution, wildlife being terrified because they are let off in inappropriate places...

I don't think it's unreasonable of me to point out that I should have to put up with fireworks almost every night for four months of the year. The fireworks last night where I am went on until 4am. And there will be more tonight, and on Sunday, and the next day and the next. Right through until January. They will start as soon as it gets dark and if we're lucky we won't get any after midnight. But it's just as likely they will go on throughout the night until it gets light again.

Given what I have just explained do you think I am being unreasonable to want to restrict the sale of fireworks to licensed displays and only at fixed times of year? From my perspective it would allow those who enjoy fireworks to go to properly organised events, with appropriate safety in place, and would also allow those (like me) who have to look after people and animals that are terrified by them, to plan properly and know exactly when the event would start and finish.
