Investing in Chanel

Is this a good idea given how ridiculously the prices are rising, sometimes two rises per year.
A classic flap massively over delivers in return on price.
The idea would be to use it on special occasions and clean and keep perfect in between - and then sell it when I am 65 or so.
I'd have to sell this idea to DH - we have other investments and pensions etc that dh pays into every year. He is very good with finances and is planning for future. I need to convince him to divert some money away from his normal investments or even relocate some.
Is this utter madness? I have smal pt jobs occasionally but it would take me 5 years to save for one of these on my own

Bollocks, nothing is tripling in 3 years except crypto and you’d hardly want your life savings in that

If you go for it buy immaculate preloaded so you get older quality- but the comment above makes be question the reality of the thread

XingMing · 01/11/2021 20:59

Anyone who expects an investment to triple in three years is venturing into speculation. Your occasional use of a Chanel bag is likely to provide a more realistic return. Only inspired stock purchases in new companies that get really lucky return 3x, and so I wouldn't dismiss the notion. But I am not saying I'd do it, mainly because I am not very keen on Chanel bags.
@Fraine If you know, then you know.
If you don’t, then don’t worry about it. It’s a Chanel thing.
I’m not worried Confused Sounds more like a twat thing.

Laiste · 01/11/2021 21:16

lol

LilyTheMink · 01/11/2021 21:24

I don't think our current investments are tripling in 10 years, but to make investing in this worth the hassle that's what it would need to do....
Isn't it the 'Channel' Tunnel, not 'Chanel'? Or did Largefeld really take the brand in a new direction?

So did he want triple in 3 years or 10?

“Worth the hassle”? What hassle? Buy a bag, sell a bag. It’s not exactly hassle, is it? How come he gets to make all the decisions?

Sorry Lagefeld! Largerfeld was investing in Stella Artois, clearly!

It is a hassle to get one right now as there's a shortage on Hmm
Keeping it pristine would be a bit of a pita, and there's possibility, however remote, that Chanel might not be a thing in 10 years.
Yes, he makes all our investment decisions and I make lots of other ones.

If your DH has all the answers, why didn’t you just ask him and not us in the first place?

Or was it so we’d know how very clever he is?

I wanted someone to come on with what a great idea it was to show him he was wrong .

If you’re interested in bags, follow Sellier on Instagram. The lady that runs it is very knowledgable and often posts very informative stories on which particular bags and brands make for the best investments

DutifulDaughterWifeMother · 01/11/2021 21:35

If you want investment buy vintage Chanel. I bought mine in Paris over 10 yrs ago and it has doubled in value. I didn’t buy it as an investment, I look after mine & only wear it on special occasions. If you want to learn more about vintage head over to Instagram & look at Parisian Sweet. He will tell you all you need to know. You only live once & when you die you can’t take your money with you so enjoy it now. Buy it because you want it!!

Bushkin · 01/11/2021 21:37

I was also going to recommend sellier. Their service is brilliant and everything I’ve bought has been immaculate. Especially now if realised you meant ten years not three so might be genuine.

Rubyupbeat · 01/11/2021 21:39

My Son invests in Rolexs, mainly because he loves wearing them and he knows which types will gain faster than others.
If you love these bags and know which are going to appreciate the most, then go for it, I would have no idea.

TuftyMarmoset · 01/11/2021 21:41

A bag is not a good idea as an investment. Just buy one if you want it, can afford it, and will use it. Why not invest in Chanel the company?

PuttingOutFires · 01/11/2021 21:42

If you don't know, you don't know, clearly. And I don't.
There's me thinking it's to do with a tunnel... us poor ignoramusses...

Bushkin · 01/11/2021 21:42

@TuftyMarmoset I’m guessing because it’s privately owned Wink

TuftyMarmoset · 01/11/2021 21:48

@buskin they have sold bonds though I thought

Bushkin · 01/11/2021 21:53

That’s what I get for being a smart ass, you’re totally right the sustainability based hinds. No idea how they look financially. Bags sound more fun

MummyJ12 · 01/11/2021 21:53

Solely owned by Alain and Gerard Wertheimer.

Bushkin · 01/11/2021 21:54

*bonds not hinds

mobear · 01/11/2021 21:54

It doesn’t sound like you can afford it so I would not buy one.

GreenLunchBox · 01/11/2021 21:57

@PuttingOutFires

This thread is incredibly confusing. There is no context- Chanel what? Perfume? Tunnel?? What an extremely elitist world you must live in ...
Haha, same thought Confused
politics4me · 01/11/2021 21:59

Buying one or two items that have already grown in value is one thing. Trying to guess the one that will take off is very much higher risk.

GreenLunchBox · 01/11/2021 22:00

@LilyTheMink

Dh has convinced me it's not a good plan actually. He would like to see something triple in value in 3 years to outperform our current investments. Plus he mentioned capital gains tax- I'm sure private individuals don't tell the tax man when they sell a £6k bag but apparently you are supposed to. Which would make this less good than more tax efficient 'traditional investments. Oh well!
He'd like to see something triple in three years to outperform your current Investments? Is your husband Warren Buffett Confused
