Parking thread! I've NC for this. Partly because I am perhaps the unreasonable party. We'll see shall we!?

So this morning, I look out of the front window to see a car parked outside the house, overhanging our drive enough to make it difficult but not impossible for me to get out of the drive. Diagram attached! Very annoying etc etc, but not the end of the world. Or so I thought.

When I went to actually leave the house, another car had parked on the other side of our drive. This second car had parked legitimately with no overhang. However with both cars parked as they were there was not enough space for me to get off the drive. I had to leave house within the hour.

Here's where I potentially am the unreasonable one. I peeked in the back window of the overhanging car. Lots of vet textbooks all over back seat. Well...we happen to live about 100m from a vets. So, I call them. Very polite, give reg no, ask could could it possibly be a member of their staff. If so, could they possibly move car. Etc.

Very shortly after the phone call, a lady scampers up the road into car and drives off. I then realise that between my call and her arrival, the second car has moved. Meaning that at the time she moved her car, I could have got off my drive. Ok with difficulty, but it would not have been impossible! Unless/until another car came and parked on other side of the drive again, of course.

Anyway, fast forward several hours and I'm walking my baby to sleep around the local park. My phone goes and it is our doorbell camera. She's come knocking on the door. Oh! I thought; an apology! I answered the door from the park (thank God).

It transpires she most certainly was not knocking on the door to apologise but instead to tell me she was NOT blocking me in, I COULD HAVE got off drive, she moved the car around the corner AND NOW HAS BEEN GIVEN A PARKING TICKET FOR BLOCKING ANOTHER DROPPED KERB! Oh, and she is VERY BUSY saving the lives of animals and could I PLEASE bear that in mind in future.

I've not previously used my doorbell camera to have a row in the park with someone I've never met, but there's a first time for everything I suppose.

I mean, I'm an animal lover and all that but I also like to be able to move my car should the need arise. So! WIBU to call her work and get her to move her car? 😁

Oh dear *@5329871e* I think you've hit a nerve 🤣
Yes I think I may have! Halo
Binglebong · 02/11/2021 18:23

The reason I suggested telling her employer is because they are already involved. You were able to identify where she worked, they then passed the message to her to move. So she knew that she was being connected to them and STILL behaved like that. If it was my business I would want to know - what is she saying to their clients?

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 02/11/2021 18:25

She chose where to park... if she parks in the wrong place and gets a ticket it's her fault. Not yours.

GrasssInPocket · 02/11/2021 20:27

"Real doctors" - a cheap jibe, but symptomatic of the long-standing friendly rivalry between the two professions, which generates a fair amount of banter. My daughter once told me about a university social event for the medical faculty, where the student vets turned up wearing t-shirts claiming that "real doctors treat more than one species", with the medics sporting something equally insulting and contentious - I can't remember what! Grin

Depends how sensitive you think I should be about folk deliberately spreading misinformation that contributes to mental health problems and suicide is I suppose?

I would have thought a 'real doctor' might have been a bit more decent than to make up fiction around factors that are known triggers of professional stress, in order to try and justify their snide remarks towards a profession with double the suicide rates of other HCPs

But I guess belittling others who point out your factually incorrect and dangerous behaviour is easier than simply apologising isn't it @5329871e

I 'd expect 'real doctors' to be more decent
And more informed

Thatsplentyjack · 02/11/2021 21:05

I would have told her I was an on call surgeon and may need out of my drive to save human lives.

Oh aye Our lives are fuckin hilarious! * "I’m tired of going home in tears,” wrote one member of Veterinary Voices UK, a popular private Facegroup group, this past weekend. “I’m tired of worrying what the next day will bring. I’m tired of being tired. How did we get here?”*

There is also an emotional toll from dealing with grieving pet owners, or angry ones who accuse vets of profiteering. “Some people will scream at you about how you’re a money-grabbing bleep to your face,” says Karmen Webbe, another vet.

Glad you're amused at least.
I guess if one other person got pleasure from the belittling and lies then it's totally worth it

This is true.

It just gets a bit less amusing when doctors earning twice your salary tell you how wealthy you are and how few hours you work, whilst your colleagues kill themselves or get signed of with permanent mental health problems.

But then maybe I just don't have a sense of humour

Oh, I agree - certainly not disputing that! My daughter has had to take a fair amount of time off due to stress over the last year, and the situations nearly always stem from human behaviour - awkward colleagues, unreasonable clients - never the animals themselves (not even the bitey ones!) And as far as salaries are concerned, it's her second post but she and her partner still don't earn enough to get a mortgage. So much for sky-high salaries...

Smashingspinster · 02/11/2021 21:40

Glad you are zen about it today. I guess if she does it again you may have to take it up with the practice - she is still massively out of line, I would guess a student who is just a bit full of herself. I once got a parking ticket because I got back to my car too late - I was talking someone out of killing themselves and arranging for them to go to the hospital. I did not blame anyone else- my ticket had expired. That is what happens when you have limited parking at work - sometimes it does not work in your favour. You dont go around blaming other people for it.

REDHERO · 02/11/2021 22:07

@walksen

"AND NOW HAS BEEN GIVEN A PARKING TICKET FOR BLOCKING ANOTHER DROPPED KERB!"

So has a habit of parking inconsiderately and has got her just desserts. Perhaps she will take more care in future. Go you!

Good, it's the natural consequences of her silly parking.

"Thank you for the rant but if you park over the blocked curb again I will have to ring to ask you to move again." I wouldn't bother with anything else.

BrilloPaddy · 02/11/2021 22:30

We've got parking at work outside our shop front, and to make it easier to access, paid a small fortune to have the council put a dropped kerb in.

I wish to God we never had. Every day, it's blocked by people using the corner shop, using their phone, taxi's waiting...... and don't even start me on delivery drivers. It's like it has some sort of invisible flashing beacon ... PARK HERE PARK HERE.

I'd report it to the practice manager, however, that's bloody rude of her. Whatever her profession is.

nordicnorth · 03/11/2021 00:07

@Veterinari You know absolutely nothing of the mental health of anyone on this thread and your constant attacking and YOUR belittling comments are actually becoming insulting. Especially to someone who is going through something like this at the moment.

I'm also a HCP on a far far lesser salary than a vet or a doctor. We also get physically and verbally abused by the general public on a daily basis. Screamed in our faces by upset patients or relatives. We are also tired and tired of worrying what the next day will be like. But this isn't a race to the bottom between medical professions. It's hard for everyone.
I can also see when someone, who gets paid considerably more than I do, is saying something in jest.

This is a thread about a bad parking anyway, not about Vets vs Doctors. Shit parker just happens to be a vet. Who was not only shit at parking, but also unprofessional, aggressive and rude. You should inform the practice of this incident OP.

BudrosBudrosGalli · 03/11/2021 00:43

What a cheeky bitch!

TheEvilPea · 03/11/2021 01:21

Love the diagram OP!

Hilarious. Obviously she is completely in the wrong and I expect (hope!!!) rather embarrassed now. I doubt she'll be back to do it again.

Absolutely and I'm sure you do a great job.

Which is why I wouldn't dream of supporting a poster sneering at another profession and spreading lies about them. It wouldn't be acceptable if it was a doctor mocking a nurse for not saving lives would it? But vets, yeah we're fair game - after all, all we care about is the money.... and we get paid so much and work so little. It's hilarious

It isn't a race to the bottom and I don't think sneering and laughing at someone for correcting a poster who is lying to justify their own attack on another profession is ok. But it's what you did. I could have belittled your objections above with a flippant 'touched a nerve!' And laughed at you, as you did at me. But I haven't, because I actually think it matters that people are decent to each other.

That attack may have been in jest, but when the butt of your joke objects, you should probably think about how 'funny' you really are.
When you dig down and spread lies on the internet to try and justify your joke is it still funny?
When others join in to belittle the target of the 'joke' for objecting to the joke and the lies, is it still funny?

At what point does belittling, and lying stop being funny?
'Just a joke' is the excuse used by bullies the world over. It's not a joke if the subject of it isn't laughing. It's not a joke if you're punching down.
Why not just be decent and kind instead?

Maybe you could explain the joke to me then?

Maybe wealthy doctors mocking other HCP for earning less than them and not really saving lives is hilarious.

Maybe we should all be taking the piss out of people we think are beneath us?
Lovely

Chrissake - give the derailing a rest @Veterinari and start your own thread about whether vets are equal to doctors. You’re just howling at the moon now.

Odd that you think coming back to tag me, insult me, and continue an argument from days ago is a constructive way to stop 'derailing' on a thread where the OP's issue is already entirely resolved anyway.

Or do you have some words of wisdom for her that you'd like to use to keep the thread on track?

SirChenjins · 03/11/2021 09:12

You are literally the only one still going on and on and on about this and it's obviously touched a huge nerve. We get that you didn't find it funny. You've explained that multiple times. And?

And what? I've no idea why you keep popping up to tag and insult me and keep asking questions and resurrect a discussion you apparently don't want. It seems goady and counter productive.
SirChenjins · 03/11/2021 09:19

And what do you want now? Are you ready to stop jumping on everyone with your lengthy posts explaining how unfunny and belittling and insulting we all are? Because I think everyone gets that message now.

No you seem oddly keen to resurrect that for someone who claims I'm the one derailing though Confused I'm off to work. Have a lovely day!
