Parking thread! I've NC for this. Partly because I am perhaps the unreasonable party. We'll see shall we!?

So this morning, I look out of the front window to see a car parked outside the house, overhanging our drive enough to make it difficult but not impossible for me to get out of the drive. Diagram attached! Very annoying etc etc, but not the end of the world. Or so I thought.

When I went to actually leave the house, another car had parked on the other side of our drive. This second car had parked legitimately with no overhang. However with both cars parked as they were there was not enough space for me to get off the drive. I had to leave house within the hour.

Here's where I potentially am the unreasonable one. I peeked in the back window of the overhanging car. Lots of vet textbooks all over back seat. Well...we happen to live about 100m from a vets. So, I call them. Very polite, give reg no, ask could could it possibly be a member of their staff. If so, could they possibly move car. Etc.

Very shortly after the phone call, a lady scampers up the road into car and drives off. I then realise that between my call and her arrival, the second car has moved. Meaning that at the time she moved her car, I could have got off my drive. Ok with difficulty, but it would not have been impossible! Unless/until another car came and parked on other side of the drive again, of course.

Anyway, fast forward several hours and I'm walking my baby to sleep around the local park. My phone goes and it is our doorbell camera. She's come knocking on the door. Oh! I thought; an apology! I answered the door from the park (thank God).

It transpires she most certainly was not knocking on the door to apologise but instead to tell me she was NOT blocking me in, I COULD HAVE got off drive, she moved the car around the corner AND NOW HAS BEEN GIVEN A PARKING TICKET FOR BLOCKING ANOTHER DROPPED KERB! Oh, and she is VERY BUSY saving the lives of animals and could I PLEASE bear that in mind in future.

I've not previously used my doorbell camera to have a row in the park with someone I've never met, but there's a first time for everything I suppose.

I mean, I'm an animal lover and all that but I also like to be able to move my car should the need arise. So! WIBU to call her work and get her to move her car? 😁

Excellent diagram OP 10/10 for clarity.
The vet is a CF. You are completely right to be riled by her behaviour. I would also be ringing the the vet practice and asking to speak to the clinical lead to inform him of her actions and request that he has a word with her.

myBumJuiceSmellsLikeRoses · 01/11/2021 17:34

So she parks over 2 drop kerbs in a day and somehow that's your fault?

If she hadn't moved and the Traffic Warden ticketed her at your drive, would that be your fault too?

What a CF she is.

nordicnorth · 01/11/2021 17:34

@NailsNeedDoing

It does seem a bit unfair that she was the one who was inconvenienced when there was nothing wrong with her parking but the person who was parked badly had no consequences. I’d be pissed off if I were her too tbh, she didn’t do anything wrong you just took the easy option (for you) by calling her work.
Erm yes she did do something wrong. She was the one badly and illegally parked, blocking a dropped kurb. TWICE! She deserved to be 'inconvenienced! and to get a ticket!
SpookyPumpkinPants · 01/11/2021 17:35

It's parking wars here too & funnily enough it's the vets too!!! (Well their 500 staff members who park like muppets!)

Changemusthappen · 01/11/2021 17:36

10/10 for diagram
0/10 for car likeness, I thought a Fiat 500 Grin

The only thing I would have done differently was not to row with her. I would have calmly repeated what she said (like i was talking to a child) eg. 'so you got a ticket for parking over a dropped kerb' and then calmly said 'well there you go, you were clearly wrong by parking over my dropped curb and the other, you are the weakest link, goodbye'

Lastly, people cannot go around breaking the rules because they think they are 'special'. Frankly everyone seems to think they are special these days so it's even more important we stick to the rules re parking etc otherwise it will be carnage.

itsallgoingpearshaped · 01/11/2021 17:36

I'd make a formal complaint with the Vet Practice about her cheeky fuckery. She was blocking your drive, end of, and it seems to be what she does.

Tell her you'll call the police next time instead of the vet practice to give her a head's up, too.

Beetlewing · 01/11/2021 17:36

Maybe she'll park a bit more conscientiously form now on.

Kendodd · 01/11/2021 17:36

Yanbu
But, aibu to really hope she's on MN and comes on to have another go?

Pumpkinsonparade · 01/11/2021 17:37

Send her links to a good driving school suggest she has some lessons on parking..

WickedWitchOfTheTrent · 01/11/2021 17:37

I'd definitely ring the vets back, I'd tell them you appreciate her moving the car, however you don't appreciate being blamed for her getting a parking fine and on the receiving end of a load of verbal abuse

ThePlumVan · 01/11/2021 17:39

Hats off to you for your Noddy car diagram- (very original) and your doorbell argument- Grin

She’s having a bad day, starting with her ridiculous parking and generally CFery.

Ignore.

Runinwithangryvet · 01/11/2021 17:44

@cazisalittlenuts

I was so confused at the diagram at first, as I had read "angry yeti car" instead of angry vet car. It wasnt until halfway through the thread I realised.
🤦‍♀️ that's my poor handwriting!

@Djifunrsn

I’m in 2 minds. Obviously there is insufficient parking and that is the cause of the problem, rather than the vet being an idiot. She did what she had to do. It’s unlikely she actually wanted to block you in.

I’d be ok with the vet parking like that if my dog was having an emergency. The animal was presumably quite ill for a house call.

Too many people on this island. We need about 20 million of us to redistribute ourselves over the rest of the world.

There was no house call - she was working 100m away in a vets surgery.

You are so right. I wish I could be that cool, calm person. Unfortunately I was just so flabbergasted that she had rung the bell for a row that I took the bait Blush

How did the convo go when you answered? Grin

custardbear · 01/11/2021 17:51

@Iloveacurry

She shouldn’t of parked as she did in the first place!
^^ this It was clear when she parked that the car was then blocked into the driveway albeit she was legally parked, this is still her fault chronologically speaking. The main culprit was the badly parked first car though, she just made it impossible then foe you to leave your driveway She's a CF, and needs to arrange her parking well so she's not blocking others in. I'd be inclined to tell her the abo e and that she was in the wrong and not use crap like 'saving animals lives' as a fuckwit excuse
itsgettingwierd · 01/11/2021 17:51

Yanbu.

For a start she assumed that she wasn't blocking the driveway or a paramedic or consultant - who may have also needed to be busy saving lives.

She was pissed off but blaming the wrong person - Eg herself!

I've not previously used my doorbell camera to have a row in the park with someone I've never met, but there's a first time for everything I suppose.

This did make me laugh though Grin

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 01/11/2021 17:54

I said this on another thread but I have recently discovered that parking over a dropped kerb is not illegal if your wheel is not overhanging. There is also something about the FLAT bit of the dropped kerb. So I’m unsure if the wheel being on the slope is fine or not but technically this may not have been illegal, she may just have been a dick.

Or maybe the wheel
Can’t overhang even the slope? There is a bit of grey area I wasn’t aware of until this month (I live near a school snd have all sorts of people blocking my driveway)

@Runinwithangryvet

I do understand where posters are coming from with suggestions of contacting the surgery again. But 1) she's clearly had a very bad day already and could probably do without me making it worse again and 2) she knows where I live and she was quite a scary angry vet Blush
All the more reason to raise it with the vets to be honest. It's not ok for her to behave like that and intimidate you especially when she was in the wrong. If you don't want to do that then maybe email her at the surgery and tell her you thought her behaviour was unacceptable. You'll have to send it via the main email so she will know her colleagues will have seen it.
gettingolderandgrumpy · 01/11/2021 18:02

Yeah I would’ve said your shit inconsiderate parking has resulted in a parting ticket, have a nice day .

Rattysparklebum · 01/11/2021 18:10

Justheretoaskaquestion91, we have a similar issue, we had a white line painted by the council and they extended it quite a way past the slope, it cost £46 but has been really effective at stopping CF parking.

OakPine · 01/11/2021 18:11

She's blocked you in, shouted at you, and upset you enough that you're posting here.
Yet you are worried about her because she has had a bad day!

She's an entitled idiot. Just because she is a vet doesn't give her a free pass to act like that.

Binglebong · 01/11/2021 18:16

I would send the footage to the vet. Not just so she rightfully gets in trouble (bad day or not her behaviour was unacceptable) but also so she can see how she is coming across. People often don't realise how they appear and i think the shock might do her good.

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 01/11/2021 18:27

@Rattysparklebum

Ahhhhh!!! How did you apply for that? I need one of those
