To ask how the fuck you iron your king size duvet covers?

And fitted sheets?

I recently lost my grandmother and I have decided that I need to bloody well up my standards a bit - she had very high standards, and she's right!

I'm quite good at ironing generally, even work shirts but I just can't work out how to iron a massive duvet cover without it taking hours/being bloody difficult

@StupidPhones

I do find swearing more unappealing than wrinkly fabric come to think of it!
Life would be boring if we were all the same

@LadyPenelope68

I don’t! They go in the tumble dryer then folded or straight on the bed and look perfect. Life is way too short to iron fitted sheets and duvet covers.
yep yep
waferingstranger · 25/10/2021 15:30

Even if you for some reason care what other people think about a few creases in a t-shirt (which seems stupid to me but I at least understand on some level — lots of people care a lot about what others think of them), I don't really understand the duvet cover thing because surely almost nobody sees your duvet? I don't remember the last time anyone outside my immediate family went in my bedroom. Years ago, if ever.

MahMahMahMahCorona · 25/10/2021 15:30

We moved here over a year ago and we have a super king - I don't honestly know where the iron is!!!!

McT123 · 25/10/2021 15:30

I have one of these.

blink18two · 25/10/2021 15:31

@CrochetyCrochet

I don't. I love crisp white bedding but life is too short to iron acres of the stuff. The answer is seersucker duvet covers. Attractive crinkly topside, flat underside creased but unseen.
Love seersucker

Not read the whole thread so not sure if someone else has suggested this but putting it on the bed and ironing in situ works best for me if I really feel it needs it.

blink18two · 25/10/2021 15:31

@Bentoforthehorde

I'm in York! Not helpful though as I turned 37 on Saturday and this is the first I've heard about ironing bedding. But, I have 4 kids and am sat playing lego and ignoring housework so my standards are loooooooow. Best go clean something.
See maybe I use ironing as an excuse to not play trains for the 1000th time 🤣🤣

StupidPhones · 25/10/2021 15:31

I agree op.

And Seersucker is a great option!

I think each to their own . Maybe hoovering every day is a waste of time …. Going for a walk is a waste of time . We all like different things .

purplesequins · 25/10/2021 15:35

first of all - we all have single duvets. much, much easier to handle.

secondly - ironing bedding? really?

Hoovering needs to be done everyday according to the amount of dust that my dyson collects

It’s almost impossible to get pure cotton crease-free. Your best options (1) use the steam function on your tumble dryer if it has one, remove cover and hang over eg. a stair bannister (2) gentle tumble at end of wash cycle; air dry outside or draped over a bannister after you ‘snap’ the corners together to get a taut surface (3) use a steamer (4) swap to linen for a boho, relaxed look or my favourite ( 5) honour your granny (and hers) by simply being grateful that you’re luxuriating in the slightly creased but immaculately clean bed linen that you’re able to produce by pressing a feed buttons rather than by back-]breaking scrubbing over a dolly tub with a washboard and mangle! Smile

Yes, but I think ironing king size duvet covers falls into the category of things you should do because you find them rewarding, not out of a sense of duty.
myheartskippedabeat · 25/10/2021 15:37

Ironing bedding?
Sorry life is far too short

You've clearly got way too much time in your hands if your worried about this nonsense!!!

underneaththeash · 25/10/2021 15:37

I put it in a bag, outside my door. The bag disappears for a day abs then everything inside comes back ironed and folded.
I’d try it…,

I iron everything. Fold, iron, turn etc etc or just iron on the bed. I can't abide things not ironed.

TimeForTeaAndG · 25/10/2021 15:39

It's all very well having high standards if you a) have time or b) have the money to pay someone else.

It's ok to not iron your bedsheets especially huge fucking kig size things!

In all honesty, are you trying to keep your focus off your grief? Let yourself breathe, OP.

maofteens · 25/10/2021 15:39

My mum was the only person I know who ironed her sheets! And it did take hours.
I'm sure your grandmother would rather you spent the time enjoying life - no person should be chained to an ironing board unless they really love it or are getting paid.

Finchall · 25/10/2021 15:39

My washer/dryer has a steam setting. I use that and put covers/sheets straight onto the bed.

TubeOfSmarties · 25/10/2021 15:40

I know this wasn't a yes/no question but

Nope

I dont iron my sheets for anyone, I do it for me because thats what I like. And if I'm listening to a dj streaming music for 3hrs I can double up and iron my clothes and sheets at the same time.

Some people like to sit and watch TV for hours....so what. I dont care what other people do with their time, thats up to them I don't judge them for it.

Op came on here looking for some advice as opposed to being judged for how she spends her time

cardibach · 25/10/2021 15:40

@blink18two

Sorry for any offence caused by my 'standards' comment.

Really wasn't meant like that.

Haven’t read all the thread past this, but thanks @blink18two These threads are often very judgemental so I may have jumped to that conclusion with what does (on reflection) look pretty flippant and non-serious. Apologies also.
SpeckledlyHen · 25/10/2021 15:42

I'm with you OP on the ironing of duvet covers. However, I will add that it is only some bedding. I tend to get cheapy stuff from Sainsburys (or similar) for the "main" bed as our dog lies on the bed and it ends up filthy and needing to be changed about twice a week. That bedding just gets tumbled and folded - but it tends to be the easy iron type synthetic bedding anyhow so ironing wouldn't really help it! I do iron the pillow cases and sham covers though.

The other bedding for other rooms is generally a better quality which looks horrendous if not ironed. Egyptian cotton, and I recently bought some organic bedding which is like silk but looks like a crumpled newspaper when it comes out of the dryer or off the line. I invested in a really good steam iron a few years ago and honestly it makes the job so much better and easier. That or a hand held steamer I think are what you should go for.
