I’ve got thrush. Never had it before, it’s fucking awful. To start with, it was just so itchy I wanted to cry. Now I’m using canisten and it burns. I literally had a panic attack tonight and had to wash it off. Is it supposed to hurt when I put the gel on? How do I get rid of the thrush if the cure feels like putting salt in a wound. Do I just need to man up and get on with it? Or does this sound like somethings not right? I called the doctor when it started because I’ve never had thrush so wasn’t sure this is what it is. But they won’t see me. Said to use over the counter medication, but what if it’s not thrush? How long do I wait, with my fanny burning off? Argh!

I'm trying this - first time yesterday, and been fine and pain free today.
ayurcentralonline.com/en/blogs/79_castor-oil-in-yeast-infections.html

Plan is to use it in between the Ovestin, whigh I uses twice a week.
I did buy the castor oil initially as it's supposed to be good for encouraging hair growth, so that could be interestingShock

Are u any better? I got thrush on same day after 12 years. Took oral fluconazole twice, day 1 day 3. Currently on itraconazole 200 twice a day for 5 days and last night used a clottimazole pessary as well.. not much luck. Can anyone tell me how fast does a pesarry work? Can you seriously put yoghurt there? Isnt itbdangerous? Pls help

GobletofFiyah · 03/11/2021 18:48

The pessary can take 48 hours to work I think. Yes you can use yogurt but it needs to be live not vanilla! The bacteria in the yogurt will eat the yeast basically. It feels amazing on the itch from the fridge. Have you spoken to your dr?

Shru77 · 03/11/2021 18:54

Yes all the treatments were prescribed by GP :(
I am using ice pack for itching currently 🙈

Penistoe · 03/11/2021 18:57

The pessary is the only thing that works for me. Pop it in overnight and in the morning it’s always much better. The creams burns for me too.

BiscuitLover09876 · 03/11/2021 19:00

Are you sure it's definitely thrush?

The burning sounds like something else to me.

UnfinishedBunting · 03/11/2021 19:05

Hope you feel better soon OP.

I really don't think it's a good idea to put essential oils anywhere near your vagina.

Thiscrackisverymoreish · 03/11/2021 19:19

Bugger. I was diagnosed with mild thrush the other day. Accidental finding from another test. Didn't even know I had it. Only had it once before and I wanted to rip my fanjo out. Got it from antibiotics. I went to the pharmacist and was outraged at being charged loads for 1 tablet. I didn't know you could get unbranded ones for far cheaper. Thanks mumsmet!

Looubylou · 03/11/2021 21:18

Stopping pessaries etc, but continuing Optibac extra strength probiotics, or optibac for women, whilst cutting out all sweets, biscuits, cakes and chocolate, was miraculous. It was cutting the obvious sugar that did it. I also lost a stone as a result. The over the counter creams, pessaries and oral fluconazole, were only clearing symptoms for about 48 hours, which was very frustrating. Treating partner obviously important, even if no symptoms

Thisisworsethananticpated · 03/11/2021 21:20

You sure it’s thrush ?

SophieJo · 03/11/2021 21:33

I thought I had thrush but was eventually diagnosed with Lichen Sclerosis.

sageandbasil · 03/11/2021 21:46

Natural yogurt is a great soother. And the cream in the purple tube

Shru77 · 04/11/2021 10:34

Is it true that thrush gets worse before getting better?

Thisisworsethananticpated · 04/11/2021 11:30

I thought I had thrush and it was genital herpes
For anything really sore and that is always in the same place it’s worth a trip to Gum clinic

BiscuitLover09876 · 04/11/2021 13:21

It honestly sounds likes herpes to me! It can lay dormant for years. Get yourself checked out op.

How does anything the OP has said make is sound like herpes?
Thisisworsethananticpated · 05/11/2021 07:07

The pain , and the reaction to the cream , and the location
Thrush isn’t painful really
Herpes is

Chargreen · 05/11/2021 14:21

Thrush isn’t painful? Wut? I know it can be mild and you don’t really notice it sometimes but it can often make you very, very sore.

OP said her entire vulva was affected- sore and swollen. Herpes is usually localised in patches.

Hope you have some answers, OP

BiscuitLover09876 · 05/11/2021 17:36

@Chargreen the earlier comments on the thread regarding the intense pain particularly to touch and the treatment cream not working. This is just from personal experience. Good luck.

Thisisworsethananticpated · 06/11/2021 08:21

Op get yourself to a GUM
None of us can diagnose you !

Chargreen · 06/11/2021 11:51

Agree, or a gynaecologist, whichever is easier and quicker to get an appointment.

You’ll be really glad you did. Seeing someone who looks at vaginas and vulvas all day and knows exactly what they’re doing and seeing is great.

TruJay · 06/11/2021 12:04

I came to say what @SophieJo said. I used to suffer a lot with thrush from 19 when dh and I got together. I always ended up with it once having sex regularly.
I was eventually referred to a Gynecologist after it hurt so badly that I couldn’t even stand sex, I could barely walk or sit down at times. She diagnosed me after talking about my symptoms and one examination and it was Lichen Sclerosis.
I got cream alongside tips on what/what not to wear and products to use and omg the difference in both my physical and mental health within two weeks was astounding. I remember crying to the gynecologist and she was just so helpful.

I get flare ups every so often and my cream does the trick, I’ve never been as bad as I was back then. I do have to have annual check ups still as there is a link to vulval cancers she told me but so far I’ve been ok. Two other members of my close family have it too.

I hope you’re feeling much better op but if not and it turns out to not be any stis it may be an avenue to consider.

Chargreen · 06/11/2021 17:31

The idea that thrush doesn’t hurt is absolutely ludicrous. It can be absolute agony. Why would anyone bother treating it if it didn’t?

Loopyloulou007 · 09/12/2021 10:32

It has to be live natural yoghurt.
