Who would vote Tory and why?

OP posts:
elodie77 · 20/10/2021 16:21

Starmer is the former head of the CPS. A terribly flawed organisation. The police call it the "Criminal Protection Service", or "Couldn't Prosecute Satan".

And the police are not flawed in any way Hmm Or Boris Johnson?

Keir Starmer may not be perfect but as has been said many times people expect perfection from Labour but are prepared to overlook any amount of callousness and incompetence from the Government?

About his time as the the head of the Crown Prosecution Service:
"There were a number of decisions that Starmer got right. He was appointed by Labour but spent half his time in office under the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition. There, he defended the Human Rights Act against Conservative proposals to repeal it. Rightwing MPs briefed against him. Starmer deserves recognition for taking that stand."

SpiderinaWingMirror · 20/10/2021 16:21

On reality it would make chuff all difference as I live in a true blue area. I have always voted Labour and will prob do again but jesus, they work hard at being unelectable, don't they? And why do people vote Tory? Cos they say what a slim majority think they want
We need a centre left party that people can actually relate to. It will never happen.

ohdelay · 20/10/2021 16:22

I’d vote Tory. Labour are sneery, hypocritical and detached from real life. Sixth form debating team vibes with imaginary money to spend.

Noshowlomo · 20/10/2021 16:32

@ilovesooty of course, but that's a start.

TheRiat · 20/10/2021 16:42

Why is it on here, time after time its ok to be leaning to the left, but go the other way and you are satan himself.

Lets just hope Labour dont get in at the next election. The economy is already in a mess without that lot messing it up further.

Actually who even is the shadow chancellor? I refuse to search for it as I consider it a waste of time.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 20/10/2021 16:45

@Ducksareruiningmypatio

Seeing as I'm an adult human female. Yes. I'll be voting Conservative.
Say goodbye to your human rights

Empressofthemundane · 20/10/2021 16:48

I’d vote conservative.

einekleinenachtarbeit · 20/10/2021 16:54

As usual turned into a tory love fest. What a surprise Grin

BigWoollyJumpers · 20/10/2021 16:56

Further to my comment re: David Amess, there is also a group of MP's called "One Nation", who very much align with what many of you want to see in politics.

I do find it sad/alarming, the number of posters who equate Conservative with 100% negative comments, regardless of the nuance of the party. As with Labour having many different "flavours", so do the Conservatives.

I have voted Conservative, I would do again at present. I voted Labour in the Blair years. I wouldn't vote for the current LibDems, just a weird bunch, nor Greens, quite frankly loons. They can't even manage Brighton, let alone the country! So I float between the main two.

Maireas · 20/10/2021 16:57

The Shadow Chancellor is Rachel Reeves. She's low profile but seems well educated and experienced. She's challenged the antisemitism in the party.

ilovesooty · 20/10/2021 16:58
**@ilovesooty* @einekleinenachtarbeit*

Completely ruined the country the last 2 times they were in power. Far worse than what this government has done in my opinion.
Well we're talking about the present day not past governments. I don't agree with you but if that's your opinion then there's little point in my engaging with you.

berlinbabylon · 20/10/2021 16:58

I live in one of the safest Tory seats in the country so my vote is wasted anyway. There is a remain-voting Lib dem bubble here and I voted Libdem last time. I am a bit disgusted about their views on women though - biological women that is. But I am not sure any of the parties have a sensible approach to gender/sex and I wouldn't vote Tory because of it.

I did vote Tory in the local elections to try to keep out a party who want to build a massive new "village" in the area with 5000 houses. Usually councils fight local development but this shower actually want it, they just see pound signs from extra council tax I think. But local issues shouldn't really be party-political.

ilovesooty · 20/10/2021 17:01

@Maireas

The Shadow Chancellor is Rachel Reeves. She's low profile but seems well educated and experienced. She's challenged the antisemitism in the party.
But apparently it's a waste of time even finding out anything about her... 🙄
berlinbabylon · 20/10/2021 17:02

@Maireas

I'm a lifelong Labour voter, but I don't think they represent me now. I'd vote Women's Equality Party if they fielded a candidate in my constituency.
They are the very opposite of being in favour of womens' equality, sadly.
Bollindger · 20/10/2021 17:02

Labour only get in when the UK is doing well and has money, which they proceed to bribe the voters with...
Then they bankrupt the country and lose the vote.

ilovesooty · 20/10/2021 17:04

@Bollindger

Labour only get in when the UK is doing well and has money, which they proceed to bribe the voters with... Then they bankrupt the country and lose the vote.
And this government hasn't bribed voters with money? Just wait until the pull the purse strings shut.
LadyWhistledownsPen · 20/10/2021 17:06

As a born and bred working class Yorkshire lass I won't vote Tory ever. Not that keen on labour at the moment either so probably liberal democrats

Maireas · 20/10/2021 17:07

Not according to my research, @berlinbabylon, but you may know better?

londonrach · 20/10/2021 17:12

I'm.a floater....saying that I can't vote labour whilst Corbin was leader and less so now...they gone vvv anti woman along with other reasons...tbh I voted Tory for first time last time as only choice I could in my area and I'm not happy with my vote but felt best of a terrible choice as i don't agree with spoiling the paper. I'm in the same situation again....I just wish lib dem or labour get their act together. We need another new party! I don't want another general election at the moment as I'm hoping we get a better choice in time....I can hope

wanttomarryamillionaire · 20/10/2021 17:12

I voted tory last time purely to make sure we didn't end up with Corbyn in charge. This time I would spoil my paper because they are all bloody useless.

percysledge · 20/10/2021 17:19

The Tories are anti-women as well though with their policies!!

Decade of austerity
UC cuts
Closure of sure start centres

These issues massively disproportionately affect women. A group of single mothers recently won a high court case against the government after suffering hardships due to the illogical nature of UC wage reporting.

Not to mention what they are trying to do to our human rights, which was recently in the news.

Why is it only one issue which matters regarding women??

I'd vote Green probably.

XingMing · 20/10/2021 17:28

None of the options currently appeal.

Kosmin · 20/10/2021 17:37

@PackedintheUK

Labour without the female vote really are in trouble. I don't understand why they don't see the damage they're doing to themselves.
Is there evidence that they are losing votes for this reason.

Labour did badly in by-elections and they continue to do badly in polls. But is women's rights a significant reason?

PackedintheUK · 20/10/2021 17:44

Labour did badly in by-elections and they continue to do badly in polls. But is women's rights a significant reason?

Probably not actually. MN is fierce on this issue, but the women I know IRL(who would mostly call themselves feminists) are far more concerned about inclusivity than they are about female spaces.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 20/10/2021 17:45

Considering the majority of the country vote for the tories the majority of the time, are you suggesting voters are bots too?

Can’t believe people are so ignorant of how our voting system works. The majority voted something other than Tory.
