Aibu about DD and calling 111

Sorry for long post - Am I just over reacting? DD started with a cold on Wednesday (runny nose, temperature etc.) by Friday night it had turned into vomiting and bad cough. We monitored her over weekend, and no improvement. Phoned Dr on Monday and was told just a virus but Dr was very funny about why we hadn't taken her for a PCR test. (We had done a lateral flow as soon as she seemed under the weather that was negative). Dr was unaware that guidance says only take under 5s if absolutely necessary or Dr says to. Took her for PCR which is negative. We've been giving her fluids but she's refused all food since Friday afternoon. We've tried juice squash, smoothies, only thing she will have is milk or ice lollies. DH is concerned but not as much as me! I'm very worried but I don't want to over react.

We've been giving Calpol and ibuprofen but they don't seem to be doing anything.
Symptoms include (Dr was made aware of all of these):
Cough
Temperature
Refusing food (even ice cream/chocolate/crisps etc)
Runny nose
Ear pain (she keeps rubbing her ear and flinches when you touch that side of her head)
Sore throat (won't eat anything, when she gets distracted and eats a snack she is sick when she tries to swallow and will start crying)
Vomiting
Mottled skin
Very clingy
Cry is unusual, very high pitched.
Not active or interested in doing things.

I'm worried as she hasn't eaten since Thursday and it's now Tuesday. Do I phone 111?? Do I phone Dr again? Or am I panicing over nothing??

Really glad to hear she’s okay and feeling a bit better, OP Star

Notaroadrunner · 20/10/2021 11:57

Good to hear you were allowed home and that's she's a bit better today.

3luckystars · 20/10/2021 12:04

Great news. Hope she recovers soon.

WLAH · 20/10/2021 12:05

Great news

beachbabyy · 20/10/2021 12:49

So pleased your DD is okay. You definitely did the right think taking her in. I follow a lady whose son died from sepsis due to untreated ear and chest infections - like you told it was just a virus by the GP.

Blackopal · 20/10/2021 13:20

Wonderful news.

PanicBuyingSprouts · 20/10/2021 17:14

So glad that you took her abs that she's responding well to treatment Thanks

JackofGentlemen · 20/10/2021 18:51

So glad you were seen promptly and that she's feeling better. 🤞 she's completely back to normal v soon.

Good your daughter is ok . When my grandchild was taken to hospital with similar symptoms the paramedics said that if parents call 111 they always take the concerns seriously because parents know their child best ! Xx

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/10/2021 20:41

Of course you ring 111. The high pitched cry in itself is enough to justify it.

Hope she’s ok,

Inastatus · 20/10/2021 21:09

@MrsSkylerWhite - the OP posted over 24 hours ago! If you read the updates you’ll see that she’s been and all is ok.

SimplyAmy1 · 20/10/2021 22:01

I know this probably isn’t a comparison as I am not a child, but I had the exact same thing- I couldn’t keep food down for 5 days- I’m also 33 weeks pregnant. I got told to go to the hospital and they literally did a Covid test and that was it then of course monitored my baby on the machine and both our heart beats kept dropping out. It was awful! I really hope your child is okay xx

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 20/10/2021 23:00

Fantastic news, hope she continues to improve. You must be exhausted. Hope you can get some kip too.

notasillysausage · 21/10/2021 07:46

Great news and well done for trusting your instincts and taking her in x

itsgettingwierd · 21/10/2021 07:49

I love it when people go to a and e when told.

She was clearly unwell or she wouldn't have been kept in.

Glad she's showing signs of getting better.

Thank heavens!!
I hope your little one is feeling a lot better now, and that you are back to being a calm mummy!
