Aibu about DD and calling 111

Sorry for long post - Am I just over reacting? DD started with a cold on Wednesday (runny nose, temperature etc.) by Friday night it had turned into vomiting and bad cough. We monitored her over weekend, and no improvement. Phoned Dr on Monday and was told just a virus but Dr was very funny about why we hadn't taken her for a PCR test. (We had done a lateral flow as soon as she seemed under the weather that was negative). Dr was unaware that guidance says only take under 5s if absolutely necessary or Dr says to. Took her for PCR which is negative. We've been giving her fluids but she's refused all food since Friday afternoon. We've tried juice squash, smoothies, only thing she will have is milk or ice lollies. DH is concerned but not as much as me! I'm very worried but I don't want to over react.

We've been giving Calpol and ibuprofen but they don't seem to be doing anything.
Symptoms include (Dr was made aware of all of these):
Cough
Temperature
Refusing food (even ice cream/chocolate/crisps etc)
Runny nose
Ear pain (she keeps rubbing her ear and flinches when you touch that side of her head)
Sore throat (won't eat anything, when she gets distracted and eats a snack she is sick when she tries to swallow and will start crying)
Vomiting
Mottled skin
Very clingy
Cry is unusual, very high pitched.
Not active or interested in doing things.

I'm worried as she hasn't eaten since Thursday and it's now Tuesday. Do I phone 111?? Do I phone Dr again? Or am I panicing over nothing??

I’d got to A and E tonight. Good luck - I hope she’s feeling better soon x

ArabellaScott · 19/10/2021 21:22

Hope she's okay, OP. x

coffeepleeease · 19/10/2021 21:23

A+E ASAP x

ThelmaDinkley · 19/10/2021 21:24

Hope you get sorted tonight and your little one feels better soon x

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 19/10/2021 21:24

Hope she's ok and you're not waiting too long op

drpaddington · 19/10/2021 21:25

I'd go to A&E or walk in centre if you have one. Don't bother with 111, we called recently and waited 13 hours for a call back (not a complaint, they were clearly busy and did keep me updated, I just wouldn't want you to wait to hear back from them when your DD is clearly unwell.)

DunderMifflinSalesRep · 19/10/2021 21:26

Hope she's ok OP

FiloPasty · 19/10/2021 21:26

Hope you are ok, I’d do A & E too x

TravelLost · 19/10/2021 21:28

Good luck @Brandysnapfoxylady.
A&E sounds like the right choice

TurquoiseDragon · 19/10/2021 21:31

Hope she gets seen soon xx

Inastatus · 19/10/2021 21:31

@Brandysnapfoxylady - definitely the right choice to go to A&E. I hope your DD is ok.

Vispa · 19/10/2021 21:36

Go to A & E urgently now, my dd had the last three symptoms and it was meningitis (she never developed a rash, they often don't). It's better to be safe than sorry. Do NOT wait till the morning! Hope your dd is OK and it turns out to be just a bug. But please get her seen now. X

AMostExcellentStick · 19/10/2021 21:36

Hope you’re able to get seen quickly. I’d be straight to A&E too, no point in calling 111 as with those symptoms they’d send you to A&E anyway.

SuperbOwls · 19/10/2021 21:38

Definitely a&e. I hope she feels better soon

Motherland101 · 19/10/2021 21:39

How worrying for you, OP! I'd be taking her straight to A&E and I hope that's what you are in the process of doing right now. I hope she will be better soon, poor little thing.

Same thing happened to us just last month (less symptoms) and doctor made me feel like I was paranoid. I was really worried though and called back for second opinion and the other doctor basically told me if I can't get to A&E straight away, she is sending an ambulance. Sure enough, DS absolutely needed to be seen and stayed in overnight. ALWAYS trust your gut. Good luck to you all Thanks

Piapiano · 19/10/2021 21:40

I agree, trust your instinct. Hope she gets seen quickly.

windmill26 · 19/10/2021 21:40

Could be meningitis. You need to take her to A&E urgently.

Purplewithred · 19/10/2021 21:42

If you call 111 don't be surprised if you get an ambulance with mottling/high pitched crying + signs of infection. They will want to know whether her nappies have been wet as usual or not too.

Nuttymonkey · 19/10/2021 21:43

Glad you are getting her seen tonight, could be a nasty viral bug but of equally you need to rule out meningitis or sepsis... My son was soo poorly one year with sickness and green snot, floppy in my arms... He was given antibiotics as a precaution and perked up within 2 days... Sometimes it's best to just get checked out and go with your gut feeling .... Hope she improves tonight and tomorrow

Fallagain · 19/10/2021 21:43

@bloodywhitecat

I'd be headed for A&E with mottled skin, high temp and a high pitched cry, they are flags for meningitis.
Me too.
Mollymalone123 · 19/10/2021 21:43

A and e -as others said sepsis or possibly meningitis xx hopefully neither but they need to be ruled out.

DeathMetalMum · 19/10/2021 21:44

Hope she gets seen quickly.

HeyArnoldHey · 19/10/2021 21:45

Hope she's ok . Poor thing Flowers

Boopeedoop · 19/10/2021 21:46

Mottled skin and unusual cry. A and E. Never doubt your instincts as a mum.

Cinderss · 19/10/2021 21:48

I’d go to A&E.

But also, check her tonsils and see if you can spot any white spots. Could be tonsillitis
