Aibu about DD and calling 111

Sorry for long post - Am I just over reacting? DD started with a cold on Wednesday (runny nose, temperature etc.) by Friday night it had turned into vomiting and bad cough. We monitored her over weekend, and no improvement. Phoned Dr on Monday and was told just a virus but Dr was very funny about why we hadn't taken her for a PCR test. (We had done a lateral flow as soon as she seemed under the weather that was negative). Dr was unaware that guidance says only take under 5s if absolutely necessary or Dr says to. Took her for PCR which is negative. We've been giving her fluids but she's refused all food since Friday afternoon. We've tried juice squash, smoothies, only thing she will have is milk or ice lollies. DH is concerned but not as much as me! I'm very worried but I don't want to over react.

We've been giving Calpol and ibuprofen but they don't seem to be doing anything.
Symptoms include (Dr was made aware of all of these):
Cough
Temperature
Refusing food (even ice cream/chocolate/crisps etc)
Runny nose
Ear pain (she keeps rubbing her ear and flinches when you touch that side of her head)
Sore throat (won't eat anything, when she gets distracted and eats a snack she is sick when she tries to swallow and will start crying)
Vomiting
Mottled skin
Very clingy
Cry is unusual, very high pitched.
Not active or interested in doing things.

I'm worried as she hasn't eaten since Thursday and it's now Tuesday. Do I phone 111?? Do I phone Dr again? Or am I panicing over nothing??

This really is important. You need to get her seen tonight. Don’t wait for the gp.

PanicBuyingSprouts · 19/10/2021 20:47

111, walk-in Centre or failing that A&E.

The funny cry, ear pain and vomiting would bother me.

PanicBuyingSprouts · 19/10/2021 20:48

Just seen that she's 2. I'd head on over to A&E.

FleasInMyKnees · 19/10/2021 20:50

111 will either arrange an ambulance or tell you to go to a&e so theres no point in wasting time calling them

Blendabrethin · 19/10/2021 20:53

Mottled skin is an a&e job especially with high pitched cry. Mine had this when she had kawasaki's.

Can I ask about her temp also? Has she had a temp for greater than 5 days because that would be another red flag for a&e.

BingBongToTheMoon · 19/10/2021 21:01

I hope she’s ok.

AngelDelightUk · 19/10/2021 21:05

Definitely take her to A&E or call 111

PurpleDaisies · 19/10/2021 21:06

There really is no point calling 111. They will send her to a and e.

Zapx · 19/10/2021 21:07

I'd be going to A and E in your shoes, you're definitely not being unreasonable. High pitched cry is not normal, and I'd want to be reassured it wasn't meningitis. At the very least it sounds like it could be an ear infection, and I'd personally be after antibiotics. Hope she feels better soon!

olidora63 · 19/10/2021 21:09

My grandchild had those symptoms and was very floppy. 111sent an ambulance. She actually had tonsillitis. Definitely get her checked tonight in AE .💐

HestersSamplerofCarrots · 19/10/2021 21:09

A&E

notasillysausage · 19/10/2021 21:10

A&E with those symptoms - especially mottled skin and high pitched cry.

BeMoreHedgehog · 19/10/2021 21:10

A&E

notasillysausage · 19/10/2021 21:10

Sorry in my haste to post I forgot to say that I hope she feels better soon and that you get the help she needs. It’s horrible when they’re poorly Flowers

Brandysnapfoxylady · 19/10/2021 21:11

Thanks everyone, a&e was my first choice but DH and Dr made me second guess myself, going to sort out getting her seen tonight

Yes get her seen ASAP, go to A&E. It could be an throat infection turning to sepsis.

3luckystars · 19/10/2021 21:13

It could be an ear infection, tonsillitis or a as kidney infection or all three. Go to the hospital now and bring a urine sample if you can. All the best.
