WIBU to leave three older DC (12, 15, 16) at home while I go away from Saturday morning to Sunday evening. I'll be hundreds of miles away (but same country). We have great neighbours. 12 yr old and 15yr old permanently squabble, but they are all NT and reasonably sensible. It's fine, right?

Same ages as my kids...you know your own kids...personally I wouldn't...16yr old would have a party, almost 15 Yr old would be oblivious if there was a fire, would also panic if someone knocked at the door/ gas or electric went out...12 yr old...well let's just say he would wind the other 2 up so much id come back to him under the patio!

Frymetothemoon · 19/10/2021 12:32

If I were you I'd arrange for someone to come over at around 6pm and leave after breakfast in the morning

Does any of your family have dc? Can't you take ds12 with you and drop him with say, cousins, for the night, or a grandparent?

LarryVeest · 19/10/2021 13:02

Babysitter is sorted. DH and I are going to thoroughly enjoy our "jolly" :-D

Get the sitter , it’s the combo of squabbling and you being a long way away and anyway you will enjoy yourself more not having to worry what’s going on

toocold54 · 19/10/2021 20:22

I’m sure they’d be fine but if you’ve not left them before in this situation I definitely think the babysitter was a good idea so you can actually enjoy your night instead of worrying.

Have a great time

Personally, no, I think it's too long & unfair on the eldest. Too much of a risk - especially including an overnight. Better to have them stay with family or friends or arrange for someone to at least be on call during the day & sleep overnight with them.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 20/10/2021 09:41

We have left our three of similar age overnight-though we were only about 45mins away and PIL live in the same village, sorted their dinner out and were on call after that. Our eldest and youngest are very sensible. The middle one can be a wind up merchant so squabbles with the youngest but the eldest is always able to control so all was good.

You know your kids better than anyone-if you think they will cope then go for it.
