Cinema and covid

Rizzoli123 · 18/10/2021 12:42

I took my boys 4 and 6 to cinema today as its a first day of school holiday treat.

Me and my husband and children sat in the seats we had picked. Two teenagers came in just after we did and in an empty cinema sat next to us.

We ended up moving in the end but am I being unreasonable to say that it wasn't our place to move and we were here first.

I understand that taking kids to cinema is a luxury

AIbu rhag the kids should of respected rules saw we were sat here.and moved instead of us.

Our local cinemas all have allocated seating and you have to go in before you pay and move the seats if you care about where you sit. (we like to sit at the back)

The computer ALWAYS has everyone grouped together in the middle. Even if there were only, say, 12 seats booked up they'll all be squeezed up in the middle of the cinema over two rows max.

Laiste · 18/10/2021 15:08

when i say go in, i mean go into ''check your seating'' on the website.

gogohm · 18/10/2021 15:16

It's all allocated seating here, perhaps they were their seats

DampSquidGames · 18/10/2021 15:18

You coming back OP?

Rizzoli123 · 18/10/2021 15:21

Seats were allocated on the ticket. Cinema we use is cineworld. Surely though once the film has starterd and no one else in there then they should of sort to move.

NO one else made an effort to come in and and all rows were empty. I am sorry but if I saw that I would of moved

They could have booked those seats that were next to you? In cinemas in London (not sure of your location!) you have to pick your seats once getting your tickets and sit in your allocated seats.

They do usually show what seats are already taken but they could have been people who just wanted to sit there and no where else regardless of whether the cinema was empty or not. They may have also pre brooked online and the seats where you guys sat may have been empty at the time.

My mum is very anal about this! One time we had picked seats and once we got to the screen, people were sat in our seats. My mum had asked them to move as we had booked those specific seats and didn't want to sit anywhere else in case people had booked those seats!
It's all a bit annoying but is what it is

DampSquidGames · 18/10/2021 15:25

Why should they move, they’ve booked their seats and sat in them?
If you’re worried about COVID don’t go to the cinema.

Comefromaway · 18/10/2021 15:26

Why on earth would they move if their seats were allocated? Especially once they were settled with coats/drinks etc.

Presumably they chose that location for a reason. I like the back row close to an aisle as dh's weak bladder means he may need to leave mid-film but I hate sitting on top of the screen.

SocksAndTheCity · 18/10/2021 15:27

I go to my local Cineworld regularly, I have a favourite seat in most of the screens and that is the one I book and sit in regardless of who else is there and where they are sitting.

I don't care (or notice) where anyone else is or what they're doing provided they're not disturbing my enjoyment of the film, and I'd assume the people you mention did the same.

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 18/10/2021 15:37

This is mad! They had seat allocation just like you did. Why should they move?

Frazzled2207 · 18/10/2021 15:38

In that case you are being unreasonable.
YourFinestPantaloons · 18/10/2021 15:39

Don't most people go for high up and centre? That's all you've both done

MsSquiz · 18/10/2021 15:43

So you wanted to sit in your allocated seats, but think these teenagers should have moved from their (probably) allocated seats because you weren't happy that they sat next to you?

But then you go on to say:
"NO one else made an effort to come in and and all rows were empty. I am sorry but if I saw that I would of moved"

You did see that, and you did move, so what's the issue? Is it honestly because you "sat in your seat first"?!

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 18/10/2021 15:47

You're being ridiculous op. They sat in their seats why should they move?!

Rizzoli123 · 18/10/2021 15:47

No drinks, no coats no nothing. It was 5 minutes from the strat of the film. No one else would of came in. At least not 100 people

How were they to know? They could've moved to seats that were pre booked and someone was running late. You were wrong to think they should not sit in their allocated seats.

The world has gone bloody bonkers

dementedpixie · 18/10/2021 15:49

You sat in your allocated seats and they sat in theirs. They did nothing wrong

DappledThings · 18/10/2021 15:50

I can't imagine caring an iota about this even if they weren't allocated. If they were allocated as you say then no, there is no reason they should have (not of) moved.

KrisAkabusi · 18/10/2021 15:52

You both had allocated seats, you both sat in them. You made the choice to move. They did nothing wrong!

blubberyboo · 18/10/2021 15:53

Our cinema is no longer leaving seats between people as social distancing rules are relaxed and is making prebook allocated seats

So perhaps those were the seats they were allocated or booked
If not really you still can’t say anything unless you also paid for the seats either side of you

So I’m afraid yabu

BeyondMyWits · 18/10/2021 15:53

Middle, middle... I book my seats, I like those seats, they give the best viewing experience... I sit in them, I don't care who else is sitting where. They don't want to sit near me THEY can move.

Rizzoli123 · 18/10/2021 15:53

@AllThingsServeTheBeam

You're being ridiculous op. They sat in their seats why should they move?!
They dont have to. I just thought rhag they could see the cinema was empty why dsit right next to someone. At least they could of done was sit at the end of the row
OP posts:
Frazzled2207 · 18/10/2021 15:53

Perhaps they sat in their special favourite seats that they had prebooked
Are you saying they should have moved from the seats that they purposefully chose just because you got sat down first?

Can you imagine this scenario on a plane? No of course you can’t you just sit where you’re told!

blubberyboo · 18/10/2021 15:56

Seen your updates
If I as a teenager and had been allocated a seat I wouldn’t have dared move because no doubt some adult would have come along and told me off

So you are defo being very unreasonable

You were the one uncomfortable so you chose to move.. your problem

DampSquidGames · 18/10/2021 15:58

OP I don’t get your thinking at all.
