6 year old loves watching Bluey!

Dd is 6 and has recently loved watching a programme called Bluey in Disney plus. But she says that her friends say it's for younger children and they don't watch it and make her feel about it.

Maybe it is aimed at pre schoolers but aibu to think 6 year olds are good to watch too?

My eight year old watches it alongside my five year old. Just tell her she can watch what she likes and other people can watch what they like.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 17/10/2021 12:13

Who cares? Sometimes my 9 year old likes to sneak a few episodes of Peppa.

I don't care but she obviously told her friends she liked it and has been made to feel like it's too young!

My 2 year old couldn't give a fuck about bluey but we still watch it because I love it.
"We love bluey don't we darling"
"No mummy" 😳😂

Thank you. My 10 year old watches it out the corner of his eye too! He won't admit it though 😅

Ffs I hate this crap. My reception 4 yr old has mates watching things that are meant for older kids, he is happy watching the much nicer and less aggressive programs for younger kids. I am happy about that and get cross when friends are rude about his choices.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 17/10/2021 12:18

Im 38 and i love bluey Grin

My 6yr old watches it with his sisters 3yrs and 4yrs and often on his own

DeepaBeesKit · 17/10/2021 12:18

Also there's no such thing as "too young". I'm 36 and love a bit of hey duggie or octonauts Grin

Stath · 17/10/2021 12:19

Well my 14 and 16 year old DC occasionally watch Peppa!

They absolutely piss themselves sometimes at random things (like Daddy Pig’s grimaces or the weird guinea pigs).

Often find them watching it whilst their younger sister has wandered out the room to do something altogether more grown up Grin

DockOTheBay · 17/10/2021 12:19

Bluey (the character) is 6 years old too. Its definitely suitable, probably far more suitable than what some of her friends will be watching.

I think its so sad that children have to worry about what they do/watch/wear at such a young age for fear of what their friends will say.

ThirdElephant · 17/10/2021 12:20

The main character is six years old. I'd say six is, therefore, within the target audience range. My eldest is three and currently likes Bluey, my youngest isn't yet old enough to appreciate it because you've got to have a decent understanding of language to follow the story line and be interested.

Atla · 17/10/2021 12:21

My kids love Bluey! Ostensibly 5 yo puts it on, but her big brothers (8&9) like it too - I don't think they'd admit it at school but they don't complain when it's on.

GoldChick · 17/10/2021 12:22

This is a good time to teach her that it doesn't matter what other people say if she likes something she should do it.

Atla · 17/10/2021 12:22

I love the 'Calypso' episode and the one with the swimming pool Smile

I like the grannies.

'I've slipped on ma beans!'

6 is exactly the age that's perfect for it. Younger kids won't get the humour.
DH & I roar with laughter at it, and we are 50+!

ThirdElephant · 17/10/2021 12:25

Ooh, and Sleepytime, where we see them trying to get some sleep at night. It's very relatable.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 17/10/2021 12:25

My 8yo loves it. It’s very funny for adults too if a bit annoying when watched one after the other.

SoftplayTaintedLove · 17/10/2021 12:26

Tell her to tell her friends that Bluey is famous for including loads of really clever grown up jokes that babies can't get. It has an original soundtrack for every episode based on different famous pieces of music and is full of loads of great comedy. It has won grown up prizes for being so good. It's all true!

Kb2942 · 17/10/2021 12:33

Thanks all. I haven't watched a great deal of it myself so I'll make sure I watch some myself soon! 😅

I have a 6 year old DD who loves Bluey. I don't think it's too young for her at all.

She has a couple of friends in her class who have recommended things to put on Netflix that have been far too old for her (still for kids but older kids and went over her head). I find it's often the ones that have much older siblings. We still have CBeebies on in our house for younger ones

Smeds · 17/10/2021 12:34

My 6yo DD loves it! She has asked for the house and figures for Christmas. We have a 3yo DD too and its something they enjoy together. I think being sisters just like Bluey and Bingo, they can relate to it Grin
Its definitely helped their imagination when it comes to role play too. No idea what DD6's friends watch.

Aorh · 17/10/2021 13:10

My 6yo loves it (as does every other sane human being), our 11 year old friend loves it. It works for every possible age.

ChrissyPlummer · 17/10/2021 13:16

I’m nearly 42 and watch Shaun the Sheep and have several of the DVDs. I also have loads of Peanuts/Snoopy DVDs. I know many adults who are into Disney/Harry Potter/Pokemon.

Honestly, people need to mind their own business. Far better she watched that than some shite like ‘Love Island’.

MeatyRvita · 17/10/2021 13:41

My 4 year old ds loves it but doesn’t get a lot of the jokes that I would say are aimed at older children. Bluey herself is 6!
Me and Dh also both love watching bluey with ds- it’s one of the few kids programs we actually enjoy now and then rather than dying inside when ds wants to watch it (topsy and Tim, and Bing are both horrific!)
