No the word one uses for stage direction is ‘cue’.

GnomeDePlume · 16/10/2021 22:39

Gezellig: “A perfect example of untranslatability is seen in the Dutch language through the word gezellig, which does not have an English equivalent. Literally, it means cozy, quaint, or nice, but can also connote time spent with loved ones, seeing a friend after a long absence, or general togetherness.” (wikipedia)

CiaoForDiNiaoSaur · 16/10/2021 22:39

DressedUpAtAnIvy · 16/10/2021 22:41

Upmost is a word. It isn’t a misspelling of utmost.

RomainingCalm · 16/10/2021 22:42

My favourite word is kalsarikännit - a Finnish word for sitting at home in your pants drinking beer.

Is that a bit like hygge, in Danish? That seems to have been co-opted as a lifestyle thing but I think means a similar cosy, content sort of emotion?
2Two · 16/10/2021 22:43

Defiantly when you mean definitely
Restbite

RomainingCalm · 16/10/2021 22:43

Apologies, apparently there is an English version - päntsdrunk.

MrsFin · 16/10/2021 22:44

@IpanemaPeaHen

Saudade (Brazilian Portuguese) an intense sadness or longing, kind of melancholy.
We have a word for that in Welsh. It's "hiraeth". Usually a longing for home.
SickAndTiredAgain · 16/10/2021 22:44

@Lucienandjean

Upmost.

I hate it.

Upmost is a word. But I do think that most of the time it is used by people who mean utmost.
2Two · 16/10/2021 22:44

@IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0

My apologies, I had posted and then realised that, although the words sound exactly the same when spoken, are in fact spelt differently - I was referring to "CUE" not "QUE". Mea culpa!
But they don't sound the same, because there is no such word as "que" in the English language.
cakeallday · 16/10/2021 22:45

Hen doo
Restbite
Massarge
Reliterate

TawnyPippit · 16/10/2021 22:45

I agree that there aren’t enough words in English for various degrees of kinship.

When we were travelling, we were invited to a nice family lunch by my DH’s sister’s husbands’s older sister and brother (who lived in the area). Someone asked us how we knew them and it was convoluted. I think if we were Greek we would just call them “cousins”. Or “Faaaaamily” if we were in EastEnders.

MrsAvocet · 16/10/2021 22:45

Independant.
No. Dependent is an adjective, dependant is a noun but the same does not apply to independent.

jackstini · 16/10/2021 22:46

This is now my new favourite word!

MacMahon · 16/10/2021 22:48

I thought hireath was more a longing for something that never was. Like a rose-tinted or wishful pining.
