To think this is appalling (anti vax protests)

Was at hair salon this morning. My hairdresser told me that he took his teens to be vaccinated, there were protestors outside shouting “don’t let them do it to you” and in some cases physically trying to grab the children. Children coming out were clapped and told “Congratulations, you just became a lab rat”. What is wrong with these people?

Brilliant-they can all go live on an island and look at conspiracy theory rubbish on youtube all day.

MrsKeats · 16/10/2021 19:42

Agreed excited it will be lots of the same people you can bet.

Twospaniels · 16/10/2021 19:43

Someone I know went to a shopping centre with her teenage sons. They all wore masks. Other teenagers baa-ed at them and called out “sheep sheep sheep”

Very distressing.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 16/10/2021 19:47

I suspect DH would lose his shit at anyone intimidating dd when he takes her for her 2nd dose. He's a mild mannered man but he's got a tipping point.

FlowerArranger · 16/10/2021 19:47

@RampantIvy

I can't believe that 20% of posters think that the anti vax protests are OK Hmm
Me neither!

Would any of these 20% (or now 18%) care to explain their reasoning?

acatcalledjohn · 16/10/2021 19:50

To explain their reasoning there would need to be reasoning in the first place.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 16/10/2021 19:53

Isn't there law about how far protesters need to stay from abortion clinics? Could that be extended to cover vaccination sites I wonder?

Shamoo · 16/10/2021 19:59

When my wife went for her second dose she had out then three month old baby with her. People were blocking the entrance and then screaming “I hope you die” at vaccinated people as they left the venue. Utterly thick, hypocritical cunts.

FreshFreesias · 16/10/2021 20:02

“Grabbing the children”? I think I will file that one under ‘things that never happened’.

Sugarandtime · 16/10/2021 20:02

@MrsKeats

So let's get this straight-they think it's their right to not have the vaccine but it is their right to try and stop others having it? Not very good at thinking are they?
I suppose they are feeling that if was the other way around they would say

So let’s get this straight, they think it’s their right to have the vaccine and it is their right to try and make others have it?

This could just go around in circles couldn’t it.

ItsSnowJokes · 16/10/2021 20:05

They have been out in force at the local secondary schools around here. I think it's horrendous. Just leave the kids alone, protest if you want to, but not outside schools shouting in children's faces.

mbosnz · 16/10/2021 20:06

I had a mate who supported his girlfriend to an abortion. He grabbed a protestor's sign and whacked him with it on the head. The nurses gave him a talking to, and an extra cup of tea.

I shudder to think what he'd do if his kids were targeted. Most probably something very similar to what I'd do.

thelegohooverer · 16/10/2021 20:07

I don’t think I’d be safe to be around anyone trying to intimidate my dc. Mind you if someone grabbed at my autistic ds they might get more than they bargained for.

@PumpkinsandTea @3scape
Not to make light of the seriousness of this thread, but the suggestion of a counter protest reminded me of this incident where a pair of comedians disrupted an anti-lockdown/anti-vax/anti-everything protest in Ireland last year.

Danzig · 16/10/2021 20:07

“Grabbing the children”? I think I will file that one under ‘things that never happened’.
so the multiple people saying that have witnessed it are lying because...
ErrolTheDragon · 16/10/2021 20:09

Awful.

I guess it may make more kids realise antivaxxers are best avoided and ignored.

XenoBitch · 16/10/2021 20:10

I believe in the right to peaceful protest (I have stood outside establishments waving placards before because I did not agree with what was going on there), but yelling and grabbing is a big no.

XenoBitch · 16/10/2021 20:12

@Twospaniels

Distressing to be called a sheep? I am mask exempt, and was told that I was to blame for the nation still being in lockdown. People on both sides can be nasty as hell.
LuaDipa · 16/10/2021 20:19

I cannot for the life of me understand why they feel so strongly about other people having the vaccine. They have made their perfectly legitimate choice not to have the vaccine, so why can’t they leave others alone and allow them to make their choice.

GoWalkabout · 16/10/2021 20:21

That's awful. I support their right to free speech and protest, because I support that for all points of view, but not to intimidate and harrass.

NotReallyTheVicar · 16/10/2021 20:27

Can't argue with Stupid!

To think this is appalling (anti vax protests)
Lemoncurd · 16/10/2021 20:53

They were pushing leaflets at children going into my youngest's school on vaccination day last week. I was alarmed when I saw them but the children seemed to think it was hilarious.

DdraigGoch · 16/10/2021 21:06

There is never a bucket of custard handy when you need one...

GiveMeTheShivers · 16/10/2021 21:47

@PumpkinsandTea

Would you like to explain your weird emojis to me?

My kids have chosen not to have it. I’m fine with that. But I don’t agree with with these protestors harassing people and they shouldn’t be allowed to. What’s wrong with that?

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 17/10/2021 06:08

@PastMyBestBeforeDate

Ivegota apparently some of them think vaccinated people shed the virus. There a groups talking about living away from vaxxers, starting no'vax schools etc. It was on the World Service one night.
Oh good lord.🙄 They really are ridiculous.
annie335 · 17/10/2021 06:22

@IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves

What the fuck is wrong with them?

They don't have to have the vaccine if they don't want to. Why are they being so abusive to others who make a different choice?
How are they affected if someone else gets the vaccine?

Because they take much pleasure in protesting. It makes them feel all high and mighty.
