To ask how often you shower

Inspired by a lot of comments posted in a recent thread on here! (Apologies if there is already a thread on here as I'm not too sure how to navigate MN fully yet.)

How often do you shower/have a bath? Twice a day, daily, couple times a week, weekly etc. If you don't shower daily, do you just have a quick sink wash on the days you don't shower or do you simply brush your teeth and straight out of the door? I'm intrigued to know and hoping people will be a bit more honest as it's an anonymous forumWink

On this recent thread, a poster had made several comments saying they don't understand how people only wash themselves with their hands and not a flannel or sponge. AIBU to think that using your hands to wash is quite common and seems to be done by the majority?

There was also a comment by another poster about not washing their legs in the shower as soap and hot water runs down them so no need to focus on these areas specifically.
Quite a random topic but I'm intrigued to hear from other people on here

Two or three times a month. Yeah. So what

HarrisonStickle · 15/10/2021 01:00

@sendaisnow

Can someone explain the mechanics of a strip/sink bath?

Honestly not being goady. O just don't know how it works. I may need to incorporate it into my life.

Run water, soap up hands, wash armpits and under boobs.

Rinse hands, wet flannel, clean face, wipe armpits and under boobs clear of suds, rinse flannel, clean fanny and surrounds, wipe arse. Dry.

Takes about 90 seconds. Ideal when you've slept in! Shock

Shower every 1 to 3 days. Hair wash once a week. I’m fortunate my hair isn’t greasy until then. Environmentally I try not to shower out of habit if it’s not needed. I’m not a particularly smelly person, so can wash in the sink pretty easily.

HarrisonStickle · 15/10/2021 01:01

@Kite22

What fascinates me is why this same thread is started at least fortnightly. Confused

Don't get me wrong - I'm really interested in people. I love people watching. I love a bit of inward / silent judging. I am fascinated by how different people live their lives. I will put my hands up to being nosey, but why would ^anyone possibly be interested in how often a person showers ? Confused

It's about time we had a "How often do you change your bedding?" thread!
Pinklioness · 15/10/2021 01:17

I shower daily. If I couldn't due to illness or skin conditions I'd have to wash bits and pits otherwise I'd definitely smell. I'm amazed other people wouldn't.

NumberTheory · 15/10/2021 01:33

I used to shower daily, except for slobbing Sundays. But last year, with COVID and the whole staying home thing, I dropped to every other day unless I'm meeting someone. I just brush my teeth and get dressed.

Showering daily isn't very environmentally friendly which was sort of the driver for cutting back, but I think it's probably not so great for my mental health to skip it. I definitely feel more social when I shower daily and I find myself more reluctant to make plans to meet up because I know I'll have to shower.

Kanaloa · 15/10/2021 01:52

Every day. I know many like a strip wash but to me that’s a last resort. After surgery I have had to refrain from showering before and I never feel I get properly clean from a strip wash.

Kanaloa · 15/10/2021 01:53

Also in my experience a strip wash is no quicker or more convenient than a shower.

Stitchybitch79 · 15/10/2021 01:55

Daily as a given bath or shower.
Extra bath if I'm achy or fancy one
Every time I exercise (9 days out of ten).
Shoee before bed if it's hot.

labazslovesliving · 15/10/2021 02:09

every morning I get up and shower as soon as I wake up (bad insomnia so if I am asleep otherwise at 7ish) washing my hair every couple days body wash with shower gel using hands and wash my personal parts with an intimate wash again using hands.OH uses sponge or one of those weird scrunchy shower things you know the sort you get in gift packs and usually bin! they make me shudder thinking of the germs in them not like face cloths and towels you can boil yukky.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 15/10/2021 02:54

Shower every evening before bed. Cannot understand anyone being happy to get in bed if they're not fresh and clean.
Yes it's a full scrub including legs and feet as they don't wash themselves. Hair is washed every day - surely trying to keep it dry is more of a pain in the arse than just washing it. If I got my hair wet but didn't shampoo it, it would feel horrible when dried and grease up faster.
If I just used hands to wash I'd feel filthy. And surely it takes more soap/gel to lather up than using a shower puff or sponge etc. On the odd occasions I've forgotten something to wash with on a night away, I find putting the soap/gel directly on my skin just dries it out.

I assumed using hands to wash was a lazy man thing as I've had to instruct almost all my partners to use something other than hands as it's not a proper wash. Clearly it's more widespread than I realised.

CatonMat · 15/10/2021 02:59

I boil wash myself twice a day, but never with tea towels in the same load.

B229 · 15/10/2021 03:07

I have a bath every morning and then sometimes a second one depending on how filthy/muddy I've gotten.

FateHasRedesignedMost · 15/10/2021 03:23

Once a day (morning) I like the wake up effect and feel better washed, moisturised and ready to start the day. Even when I’m ill I try to shower and put clean PJs on or I feel worse. My hair gets damp but I only wash it properly every 2-3 days or it dries out.

ZealAndArdour · 15/10/2021 03:26

This thread has been done many many times.

I shower every day to freshen up. I wash my hair as infrequently as possible, usually once a week, but it is increasing in frequency since I’ve had it chopped off into a Bob.

I don’t use a flannel. I will apply shower gel to all their pertinent bits with my hands and then rinse off under the shower, I use a saturated sponge to rinse off all the downstairs areas since I’ve got a rainfall shower attached to the ceiling which I can’t direct at my bits to get rid of any suds.

FateHasRedesignedMost · 15/10/2021 03:26

I use soap in one of those scrub soap bag things so it can be hung up on a hook between uses. Tea tree and lemon soap in a block. I can’t stand shower puffs and flannels, they get musty unless washed after each use.

Anon778833 · 15/10/2021 03:27

Every day

Suzi888 · 15/10/2021 03:28

Twice a day. Three times if it’s unbearably hot.

DBI78 · 15/10/2021 03:28

Every other day unless doing something special or exercising then extra. Full body wash each time using hands- just wash them at the end!! . Hair roughly twice a week.

pollyglot · 15/10/2021 03:35

Twice a day. Roof water, solar heating, grey water irrigation. Environment sorted.

WakeMeUpin22 · 15/10/2021 03:38

Everyday, with soap and a flannel. I can't start the day without feeling clean

TasteTheMeatNotTheHeat · 15/10/2021 03:59

Most days but not every day. I can never skip more than one day or I start to stink. Even the flannel wash on the skin folds isn't enough to save me. Maybe I'm not doing it right? Would love to know because I don't actually want to shower daily. I have little ones and there never seems to be a good time.

Interestingly though, I stopped using antiperspirant during my first pregnancy as there was a commotion at the time about aluminium products and pregnant women, and I found that although I initially stunk to high heaven, after a couple of weeks my body seemed to get used to it and then I was much less stinky in general. I ended up going back to it because I stayed somewhere and forgot to bring deodorant with me, and antiperspirant was the only thing available. This thread is making me want to go cold turkey again...

gofg · 15/10/2021 04:08

I shower most days, if I don't I just wash my face and clean my teeth. My hair gets washed once or twice a week. Sometimes in winter I only shower every second day.

StarlightLady · 15/10/2021 04:19

Twice a day usually, more on occasion. I use one of those net nylon thingies.

I always shower before work and, where practical, l like to shower before sex.

Goatinthegarden · 15/10/2021 04:22

Shower twice a day.

I have short hair. Morning shower is very quick, I jump in, shampoo and condition my hair, lather up soap using hands and just clean face, pits, under boobs and nether regions.

Evening shower, is more of a luxurious affair, I’ve usually gotten cold or sweaty or dirty during the day and just like a good scrub all over in scalding water.
