To ask how often you shower

Inspired by a lot of comments posted in a recent thread on here! (Apologies if there is already a thread on here as I'm not too sure how to navigate MN fully yet.)

How often do you shower/have a bath? Twice a day, daily, couple times a week, weekly etc. If you don't shower daily, do you just have a quick sink wash on the days you don't shower or do you simply brush your teeth and straight out of the door? I'm intrigued to know and hoping people will be a bit more honest as it's an anonymous forumWink

On this recent thread, a poster had made several comments saying they don't understand how people only wash themselves with their hands and not a flannel or sponge. AIBU to think that using your hands to wash is quite common and seems to be done by the majority?

There was also a comment by another poster about not washing their legs in the shower as soap and hot water runs down them so no need to focus on these areas specifically.
Quite a random topic but I'm intrigued to hear from other people on here
@episcomama dry tissue paper is not enough to ensure your bum is as clean as possible after doing a poo. Wet wipes are better but even then it's still not as thorough as actual water. It's not unheard of that some people have showers after they poo to clean themselves properly.

All of my Muslim friends (and some non Muslim tbh) have those bidet sprays in their toilet to make sure they have the best hygiene. It should really become the norm in the Western world but doubt it will
Having a whole shower after a poo is not normal.

CounsellorTroi · 15/10/2021 13:53

I am very regular, poo first thing in the morning and shower after, but on the rare occasion I need to poo any other time of day I wipe until the paper comes away clean.

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 15/10/2021 14:01

Just on special occasions Grin

Bobsyer · 15/10/2021 14:10

Every other day at the moment - because I’m a lazy bastard and if I’m not going out I don’t bother. Hair washed every week(ish). It’s very dry.

I always shower if I am planning on going out.

Ilovemycar77 · 15/10/2021 14:14

Shower or bath every day and scrub all over!!
I only wash my hair once a week though.

Bobsyer · 15/10/2021 14:14

@yesterdayisinthepast what are you generally doing with your arsehole that it needs a wash every time?

Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I do feel I need an extra clean down there - but toilet paper has been keeping people clean for aeons, people in general don’t stink of shit. So long as you’re wiping well and washing hands afterwards then why does it matter?

santabetterwashhishands · 15/10/2021 14:17

Bath every evening and a shower but quickly most mornings.

Skinnyankles · 15/10/2021 14:25

Every morning if I'm going into work. If I'm working from home or it's the weekend - I might skip a day, I just brush my teeth. I never skip more than one day though.

queenofarles · 15/10/2021 14:31

those bidet sprays in their toilet to make sure they have the best hygiene. we have bidets Blush,
Best thing ever.
Growing up we’ve always done that ,

My paternal grand parents are Persian , maybe
that’s were we got it from? Hmm.

ItsMeAgainAndIHaventChanged · 15/10/2021 14:59

I shower every night, unless I have a bath, and occasionally in the morning.
I apply soap to neck, armpits, inner thighs and crack.
In the morning if not showering, I wash my neck and armpits over the basin and splash my face with water. I never use a sponge or flannel, just hands.
I wash my hair every three or four days. I bath maybe once a fortnight and soap my feet in there. I should bath more often.

Peace43 · 15/10/2021 15:04

I shower most days but not every day. On the days I don’t fit in a shower I’ll change into clothes in the morning and wash face and clean teeth.

When I do shower I was my hair and use hands and soap on my bum and vulva area, no flannel. I don’t wash arms, legs specially unless obviously muddy or sticky but soapy water from hair runs over everything.

antsinyourpanta · 15/10/2021 15:16

Did people smell much worse in previous generations? (Genuine question)
I grew up in the 1980s and we didn't have a shower, we had a bath but it certainly wasn't daily - probably once or twice a week. The rest of the time just a wash at the basin with a flannel. I don't remember people smelling ....but maybe we all did so we didn't notice? Blush
In previous generations where they didn't have indoor bathrooms i feel sure that baths were no more than once a week. My dad told me they rarely washed things like woolen jumpers or blankets (they probably took too long to dry) when he was a kid....did they all smell as well?

BTW I'm not advocating not washing clothes or bedding, or only having a bath once a week - i love a shower....but it feels like there is a happy medium to be had.
I did hear an eco - bod on the radio the other day advocating only washing clothes once a year!

Ledition · 15/10/2021 15:44

I used to take a quick shower up to 3/4 times a day. this is the point where you arrange to see a medical professional.

fedup65356 · 15/10/2021 15:44

Every morning and sometimes in the evening too, in fact whenever I like.

Why are so many MN posters obsessed with how often others shower? Confused

furbabymama87 · 15/10/2021 15:56

No not really.

@Bobsyer just because people don't stink of shit doesn't mean they're as clean as possible after doing a pooConfused toilet tissue is not enough.

The fact that the term 'dingleberries' means something is enough in itself.
In the thread that this one was inspired from (the one about sharing towels with the OH) many women were saying they don't share towels simply because of the fact they've seen skid marks on their partners towel many times. Do you know how disgusting that it? When drying yourself off from a shower, you shouldn't wipe your arse and there's poo on your towel....

A lot of Muslims always use the example of, 'if there was poo on your hand would you wipe it off with tissue or wash your hands? Most would wash their hands to ensure it's all gone. Why won't you do the same with your bum?'

I'm not here to try and convince anyone but if you believe dry toilet tissue is enough to wipe poo away then there's nothing more for me to say!🤷‍♀️

furbabymama87 · 15/10/2021 15:58

That was to someone who quoted me up the thread. I bet you stink.

yesterdayisinthepast · 15/10/2021 16:02

@queenofarles haha yes it's definitely because of where you come from! I have one Persian friend, loads of Arabs/North African and some Indonesian. They're all Muslims and all use a bidetGrin back in school people would always talk about this in the playground as my Muslim friends were always trying to tell us that toilet tissue alone isn't enough!

I'm West Indian and I've even got a bidet spray in my toilet and I've got my partner using it. I'll definitely raise our two kids to do the same. That's one thing my ex who was Iraqi taught me and I'll always be grateful😂

That’s because you didn’t wash your arse in the shower, surely?
.

MooseBreath · 15/10/2021 16:13

Typically every other day, sometimes every 3 days. If I smell, I shower.

bumblingbovine49 · 15/10/2021 16:16

I shower most days but to be honest since working from home my daily shower has definitely reduced to 5-6 times a week .

PurpleFlower1983 · 15/10/2021 16:18

Every day, although my hairdresser told me
I shouldn’t be washing my hair every day. I’m trying to break the habit!

Yerroblemom1923 · 15/10/2021 16:19

Sink wash for face, pits, bits and feet every morning and bath before bed. Wash hair every 3 days. In summer months I may have more sink washes if I feel icky and sweaty. Ideally a rinse with soap and water after a poo but I'm not as regular as a previous poster so not always convenient.
I had never heard a sink wash referred to as a "whore wash" before! Why is it called this? Surely prostitutes have showers and baths too???

Gonnagetgoing · 15/10/2021 16:24

Shower every day and bath once/twice a week. Wash hair every 2-3 days.

I don't want to do a strip wash as I had to do as a child.

Gonnagetgoing · 15/10/2021 16:25

Never heard sink wash as a 'whore wash' either - cat's lick is what I've heard.

'Whore wash' I'm guessing because it's the pits/boobs and vaginal/bum area.
