To ask how often you shower

Inspired by a lot of comments posted in a recent thread on here! (Apologies if there is already a thread on here as I'm not too sure how to navigate MN fully yet.)

How often do you shower/have a bath? Twice a day, daily, couple times a week, weekly etc. If you don't shower daily, do you just have a quick sink wash on the days you don't shower or do you simply brush your teeth and straight out of the door? I'm intrigued to know and hoping people will be a bit more honest as it's an anonymous forumWink

On this recent thread, a poster had made several comments saying they don't understand how people only wash themselves with their hands and not a flannel or sponge. AIBU to think that using your hands to wash is quite common and seems to be done by the majority?

There was also a comment by another poster about not washing their legs in the shower as soap and hot water runs down them so no need to focus on these areas specifically.
Quite a random topic but I'm intrigued to hear from other people on here

@MrsArchchancellorRidcully

I cannot believe the people who shower TWICE a day. Totally not necessary and a reason why the earth is dying.

I shower every other day as that seems reasonable to me. DH showers every day abs has dry skin issues.

In between I wash my face and moisturise and clean teeth. I wear clean pants and socks every day and use Nuud (game changer) under my arms every few days as that's how it works.

I am very aware of my carbon footprint.

Nuud looks very cool, I’m interested but do you know where do they get their silver? It’s not in the FAQ.

I have a bath twice a day. I don't really pay any attention to my legs but I have bubbles in the bath and they aren't dirty.

I’m sorry but two bubble baths a day is way too much for your bits. Please try to reduce them a bit.

chocolateorangeinhaler · 15/10/2021 09:43

Daily and probably twice in summer months. Never thought about the hands v flannel v shower scrunchie. It makes total sense to use use your hands really when you think about it.
I wash the cleanest to the dirtiest. So face then down the body. I use a scrunchie, my DP uses the same scrunchie. I've just realised if I shower after him I'm washing my face with something he had just had all round his nether regions. Oh my god. Maybe that's how covid has spread around so easily - it's detectable at sewage stations. I don't think I'll ever use scrunchie or flannel ever again.

Cyberpixie · 15/10/2021 09:51

Once a week whether I need it or not 😁

CounsellorTroi · 15/10/2021 09:51

I always use my hands. I don’t see the point of flannels or scrunchies, unless you have a really dirty job like pig farming or coal mining.

queenofarles · 15/10/2021 09:57

I cannot believe the people who shower TWICE a day why? What do you do if you go regularly to the gym, Be out most of the day running errands, working? cooking ? Cleaning? Couldn’t possibly go to bed without washing the day off,
When I had my babies , and breastfeeding I was constantly sweating, it was horrible 😣
I used to take a quick shower up to 3/4 times a day.

LagunaBubbles · 15/10/2021 10:01

Shower every morning, it's not just about feeling clean it wakes me up. When I had Covid last year I went longer and it was horrible

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 15/10/2021 10:16

I shower or bath every evening, I can’t go to bed unwashed. Quick sink wash in the morning.
I struggle with the fact that so many go to bed unwashed 🤢

I'm not sure where nuud get their silver from but it absolutely is a game changer. I rarely get under arm smell but DH does. Was a every day sprayer. He uses nuud now and puts a dab on around 3 days a week. He never smells. Kids use it too.

I struggle with the fact people care about other people's washing habits. Very strange

Shower everyday. Wash with my hands

I do all those things but don't get 'dirty' If I'm showering every other day, as a human being living in the western world and I'm not working down the mines or shovelling shit, I will not be getting dirty.

We are privileged to live in a modern world and if you think you are unclean after going to the gym, having showered daily, you've no idea.

Stop being so obsessed with cleanliness. It really does contribute to environmental damage.

I do spin classes and get really really sweaty. I’d feel awful not showering.

NotMyCat · 15/10/2021 10:47

Every day or sometimes every other
I do a full shower though - back brush, shower puff, wash with soap and then shower gel, armpits with hibiscrub, everything washed including legs, body scrub, moisturiser...

NotMyCat · 15/10/2021 10:51

Oh and skincare twice a day, hair washed every 3-4 days

MadameOvary81 · 15/10/2021 10:58

Every morning my 2 year old and I shower together. I wash my hair daily, too. I will shower again if I've been to the gym. I sometimes like a bath at night to relax.

queenofarles · 15/10/2021 11:06

as a human being living in the western world and I'm not working down the mines or shovelling shit, I will not be getting dirty it’s not just about getting physical dirt on you, sometimes it’s the buildup of skin oils, dead skin 🤢.
Few times I felt really sick standing next to some people , it’s not BO but something really pungent.

trumpisagit · 15/10/2021 11:09

Shower every morning, but probably only every other day before we had a nice shower.

I only wash my hair when I have to (once a fortnight, or when I go swimming) because its really long and thick and takes ages to dry even with a hair dryer.

Lynne1Cat · 15/10/2021 11:15

I have a shower every morning, more in hot weather. I wash my (now short) hair every other day.

I agree with this 100%. It's interesting the amount of comments there has been about not having physical dirt on you as if that's the only reason you should clean your body daily but I doubt we'll be able to convince anyone otherwise!

Someone said they don't focus on their legs when showering as their legs are covered during the day so they don't get dirty...Confused
I found that very bizzare.

And I know what you mean about the smell, there's no way of describing it other then it being frowsy to me. A lot of times in the morning (especially on the bus and tube) you can tell who hasn't bathed that morning as the smell is normally quite😳

no wonder moisturising and skincare companies are making a mint because of gullible people showing so frequently and needing to replenish skin's completely natural oils and protection!

But that smell isn't from one day of not showering. I've worked with homeless people and those who self neglect. It's not caused by missing a shower!
InTheNameOfAllThatIsHonest · 15/10/2021 11:56

The idea that if you don't see 'dirt' it's not there is baffling. Our bodies sweat pints every day. Surely you would not want that to stay on your skin for days on end? Do people who don't shower every day also not clean their teeth every day?

Fizbosshoes · 15/10/2021 11:56

Several people on here have said they shower every other day. A lot of times I very much doubt anyone would know....so there's probably no convincing either way...

I'm not convinced that anyone can accurately tell from sitting next to someone on a bus whether they had bathed or showered that day.
The amount of people that are noticeably smelly I think is fairly few, and its probably from a combination of things not simply not having had a shower that morning.

Mr85 · 15/10/2021 12:03

Every morning for me but I also jump in again before sex or after a poo.

Sponge on arse, hands for everything else.
