If you do the school run in your exercise gear..

So on my days off I go to an exercise class with a friend, as my job is sedentary I really look forward to it and do the school run on those days in my exercise gear to save time as straight after. When I am working hubbie does the school run. So 9/10 when I'm doing the school run, I'm dropping off in my exercise gear. This week a mum who I don't speak to very often (and is known to be catty) looked at me and said 'you do try, don't you?'. When I asked her what she meant she said 'by going to the gym every day'. I'm torn between thinking she got her words out wrong, to her her being downright catty. I've asked two friends and both had opposite replies one thought she was being a bitch, the other who sees the good in everyone thought she must have not meant it that way. What would you have said to her in reply? I'm conscious now of wearing my gym gear now silly as it sounds! Confused I wasn't aware I was 'trying'!

Loads of people at our school drop off in running gear. I always think they look lovely, and wish I had the whateveritis that is needed to show up looking like that. I don't.

CrankyFrankie · 15/10/2021 21:33

She sounds like a dick.
I’d have probably said “oh, don’t you try then?” or “you don’t even see me every day but thanks for taking an interest!” Or I might have said something overly defensive, or nothing, or worst of all - been friendly (and then kicked myself afterwards). It all depends how much coffee I’ve had by that point really.

My youngest is now in year 7 at senior school where parents are a no no and it’s so lovely to be free of the tyranny of playground mums 🤮! Just watch “Motherland” on BBC iPlayer and it’ll make you laugh and see the absurdity of this catty comment individual 🙄!

Imy06 · 16/10/2021 01:59

I’m a primary school teacher and I have always been impressed with mums who do drop offs / pick ups in their exercise gear because you just deserve a medal for finding the time and making the effort to exercise in between everything else. I hope you feel proud because you really should do. Maybe she was being catty but I would try to ignore her if you can. You are amazing!!

MiniPumpkin · 16/10/2021 02:33

Should’ve said ‘yes don’t you ‘ 🤣 keep wearing whatever you want!

Look her up and down... "Jealousy is a terrible thing"

But perhaps the best thing is keep saying "what?? Can't hear/don't understand you" Once she has repeated herself a couple of times, she will simply look foolish. I bloody hate people like this. Their only point in life is to be malicious, to take away someone else's joy. How hateful and miserable their lives must be.

I usually go for a run after dropping off and have had some really sneery comments. I usually just smile and laugh, but it does bother me a bit. How can you be crappy to someone who is trying to do the best they can for themselves?

The worst was "do you always come dressed like a personal trainer" at the time I'd lost 3 stone and literally had no clothes to wear except stretchy gym gear because we were in lockdown and all the shops were shut!

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 16/10/2021 06:58

Honestly this is just a random nobody- it makes no difference to you. You just carry on being your awesome self and let her carry on being a dick.

TiffanyBucksFizzRainbowBright · 16/10/2021 07:16

Yep I def work out after school run. I am the sweaty one in the class. Hubbie dragged me out for 45 min run yesterdayConfused Thank you for making me feel better everyone. PS I love Motherland

look her dead in the eye

“I used to bury bitches like you. Now I take it out on the stepper”

RedRobin100 · 16/10/2021 08:18

Catty bitch. Ignore:

DocAutumn · 16/10/2021 08:23

Best thing to do when you are not sure what someone means is to ask them 'what do you mean?' if you can think to do more than stare open mouthed at them in the moment.

whittingtonmum · 16/10/2021 08:55

She obviously has issues. Ignore.

JonSnowIsALoser · 16/10/2021 17:21

You're better than that - you're not "trying" - you're DOING. Either way, you obviously make that woman feel inadequate, which is her problem alone.

Pinkfluff76 · 17/10/2021 07:52

Loads of mums in our school are in exercise gear. Don’t stress. She was being rude I reckon

BeepBoopBop · 18/10/2021 10:28

"Use it or loose it dahling.., would you like some tips?" Then start running on the spot and throw in some star jumps and burpees Grin

Meatshake · 18/10/2021 13:37

"don't want to look like I've given up on my self" pointed look

TracyLords · 18/10/2021 16:18

Well...
Someone’s jealous of your figure!!!

Lots of mums wear fit clothes at the pick up: no idea if they are actually gym going or what, but not my business. One day I had my gym clothes on and DS said I looked “like Brandon’s mum”. Brandon’s mum is a size 8 glamorous lady always in sports leggings. I’m a size 18 wifie!
