Naked toddler in swimming pool showers

Noodella18 · 08/10/2021 14:35

I take my 2 year old swimming on Fridays. After the session we take a shower in the communal showers, next to the lockers and by the entrance to the pool. I didn't think twice about stripping off her swimming costume to wash her but the lifeguard told me today that she wasn't allowed to be nude 'because it's a public area' and she had to keep it on. Am I being naive in thinking that a naked two year old is really no big deal?

Yanbu - no harm in a naked 2 year old
Yabu - keep the cossie on

I think you would be surprised at the number of paedophiles living near you and as a parent do you want them to see your child?

DrSbaitso · 09/10/2021 07:17

Haha very rare but still around. And becoming more common as the figure has nearly doubled in a few years.

Hmm.

No hmm about it, it's naive to think they aren't becoming more prevalent. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/01/19/number-female-paedophiles-almost-doubles-four-years/
rrhuth · 09/10/2021 07:20

I doubt they are becoming more prevalent, they are being accused, investigated and charged more.

DrSbaitso · 09/10/2021 07:22

Various possible reasons.

we take my toddler swimming 3 x a week and luckily have private showers but if my dh saw one of those things he would struggle not to drown them then and there. Vile vile people we share the planet with

Query: How are the sexes of trans individuals recorded for the purposes of crime statistics?

anonymousanne · 09/10/2021 08:01

It's a sign of the times unfortunately. It's a sad and scary world we live in. On another note after swimming about 2 weeks ago I decided to go into the cafe and have some lunch (rarely do with a toddler and a baby but as a treat as we went with my MIL). My 2 year old stripped off naked twice in the course of the meal 🤦‍♀️🤣🤣🤣 the second time I had to run out to the car for new clothes as she insisted she didn't want the other ones back on. I actually didn't even think about whether it was weird or not until the drive home 🤦‍♀️🤣 nobody actually said anything but I'm sure we all know what a strong willed toddler is like anyway. She's still a baby in my eyes anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

I realise this isn't the point of the thread sorry but for all the people saying they let their kids run round naked in the garden or on the beach, do you suncream their whole body? I'd say the fact that if it's warm enough to be naked, I'd feel I should be ensuring a good amount of sun protection is the main reason my kids have never been naked outside (apart from very briefly if changing on the beach) before I even think about the child protection issues. I assumed naked kids on the beach stopped being the norm when we became more aware of sun risks. I can't imagine putting suncream on whole body including privates when i could just put pants / swimming costume / sun suit / shorts and t shirt on them.

Anyway, in terms of the shower I never strip myself off in shower unless it's a private cubicle, so probably wouldn't for DC either. Mine were still in nappies at 2 though so that does add an extra reason not to!

I'd like to know. It may well be that they are recorded completely accurately, with the possible exceptions of people who have actually obtained a GRC. Women can and do offend, of course they do. But given this is now a world where a male sex offender can gain access to female prisoners and attack them by calling himself Karen, I think it is a fair question.

I agree entirely on the sun protection issue. The same thought had occurred to me WRT beach and garden nudity. Mine aren't on a beach without full rash tops, never mind being nude!

My daughter is white like a glass of milk and doesn't tan. When she's out in the sun, she's got a T shirt on down to her knees.

You seem to think that’s funny. It’s not.

Nope not seeing the humour. At best you made other people feel uncomfortable and at worst you provided a paedo with some material
IdblowJonSnow · 09/10/2021 09:04

Perhaps there is a known person there who they have concerns about. You could check the policy with management?

Otherwise find somewhere else. I used to keep my little ones cossie on as you just never know who is about.

Lockdownbear · 09/10/2021 09:05

Op I'm on the trust nobody male or female.

A mother at my DSs nursery was convicted of sending photos of her own DD to her lover through their works email.
I think she got 3 years, out in 18mths.

They were caught was because another woman had him investigated for harassment.

MzHz · 09/10/2021 09:06

I had to report a guy who was standing in the shower naked but had positioned himself so he could see the pool area and he could be seen

Thee ARE perverts all over the place and they go to places where people will be removing clothes or where they can remove theirs

It’s terrible that you have to @Noodella18, but shower her in a cubicle or go somewhere that you’re not showering her in public view.

Thatsplentyjack · 09/10/2021 09:06

Obviously no one should bat an eye at a naked 2 year old, unfortunately that's not the case. Also, easier just to have a blanket rule.
I think children should be wearing substantial underwear under skirts/dresses and that's boys and girls. No child should have their penis/vulva seen by other people while they are playing etc. This is only aimed mainly at girls because they are the ones predominantly wearing skirts/dresses. If little boys were the ones wearing skirts/dresses they should also have their privates fully covered.

You really need to work on getting your child to keep her clothes on in public. How did she even get to the point she was completely naked? Surely if you saw here start to rake her clothes of, you should put a stop to it?
Thatsplentyjack · 09/10/2021 09:10

Her not here
Take bot rake

MzHz · 09/10/2021 09:11

Meant to say too that I’m a swimmer, one of the pools I train at is military and the showers are open but it’s a female changing area - normally most women strip off in the showers

The other week there was a kids class and there were kids both little boys and girls, they didn’t remove their kit while showering and I waited till they had left the changing area before I showered

anonymousanne · 09/10/2021 09:27

God 🙄🙄 apologies to all the perfect parents out there 🤦‍♀️ she's 2 for goodness sake... not 12. She doesn't like even a tiny drop of water on her clothes and can get undressed at lightening speed 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm sure before the age it's inappropriate she will have grown out of it. Chill out 🙃🙃
And if you feel uncomfortable at the sight of a naked two year old you really need to question yourself on why that is 🤔🤔🤔 cos that response makes me feel a bit uncomfortable about you. And as for pedos... well we have communal changing areas only at swimming, separated only by male or female adults. There could be plenty of pedos in there 🤷🏼‍♀️

HangingOver · 09/10/2021 09:40

Well this thread is depressing. There have always been perverts about and children have always run around naked. I don't think the parents and children are the ones that should have to change their behaviour personally. And I also don't want to live my life constantly on guard because their might be a pervert watching

It's not just your life.
