weird, big headed, beyond cheesey??

Our financial advisor sends one every year of himself stood at the top of a glacier he's just climbed.

What's worse he's sent the same one 3 years running.

And before anyone says I should be grateful he sent a card at all can we remember he's minted and has a secretary who in all likelyhood addressed and mailed his cards

I like these sort of cards and it seems to be the modern way. Go on, start organising yours for next year, I am.

mylittleponey · 08/12/2007 10:07

could be worse - could be him on a beach somewhere posh & expensive

nametaken · 08/12/2007 10:07

how odd, they've put me first instead of second.

harleyd · 08/12/2007 10:07

its a bit naff really

ConnorTraceptive · 08/12/2007 10:09

I think our family photo would look to much like a "Britains Most Wanted" mug shot. I wouldn't want to force people to display that on their mantle piece for one month of the year

I know of a family where they had a much-wanted daughter after several sons. Each year, they apparently send a Christmas card with a picture of just the daughter on the front .

CarmenerryChristmas · 08/12/2007 13:44

I once saw a Christmas card from Joe Elliot of cock-rock group def leppard. On the front was a photo of him with his wife dressed in a sexy santa lingerie number sitting on his knee

OhGiveUsAPruniPudding · 08/12/2007 13:46

I knew a girl once whose family did this.
They were Swiss, and impossibly rich, and I was Scottish and poor. It fascinated me - their house was so opulent and they were all, every last one of them, utterly beautiful.
Made me sigh...

BrandyButterGalore · 08/12/2007 13:53

same pic 3 years running is really milking it eh? hasnt he climbed anything else recently then?

ouch for the boys of that family, clam

JulesJules · 08/12/2007 13:58

I think it's OK, but only if you are the Queen, fwink. I love that, I'm going to start saying it all the time...fwink fwink fwink.
Happy Fwinking Christmas everyone!

cadeLaideInAManger · 08/12/2007 14:11

fwink?

kaz33 · 08/12/2007 14:14

Oh, my cousin sent one of him and his wife on the front - though it was last years one was from the previous year and they had crossed out the year.

There one from the correct year, which my parents got, was a picture taken at our wedding. Very odd and really cheesy.

CarGirl · 08/12/2007 14:17

I keep meaning to get the dc to dress up and enact a nativity scene and stick that on the front of a card but still it could be too cheesy

foxinsocks · 08/12/2007 14:17

that is such bad taste it's something you expect to appear on some dreadful family type sitcom as a joke!

It's such a twattish 'look at me, I'm so bloody brilliant, have ME staring out from your mantelpiece' statement! Perhaps he hopes people who visit you will ask about the twat on the card and it'll drum up business for him .

Elizabetth · 08/12/2007 14:23

It's marketing. He's selling himself as king of the world, thus he is worth all those enormous fees and commissions he charges you.

I can't see why you should be grateful for him sending you a card, this is just him touting for more business.

CarmenerryChristmas · 08/12/2007 16:01

He is undoubtably a twat but that is kind of what you want in a financial advisor iyswim. Also, are they the same cards each year? As I'm sure he just got an unfeasbaly large amount of them printed to save money, being a clever financial advisor and all that

TinyTimsGangGawdBlessUs1andAll · 08/12/2007 16:07

I could do the same. A photo of me stood on top of a pile of ironing

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 08/12/2007 16:08

Some friends of ours last year sent us an A4 sheet of paper folded over for a card. With a photo of them on the front. Couldn't bear to put it up. Very odd.

pagwatch · 08/12/2007 16:12

Are you sure its the same picture. those mountains all look pretty much the same.

Actually has he got goggles on?
Are you sure it is even him?

ConnorTraceptive · 08/12/2007 16:47

I'm pretty certain it's the same mountain.

I'm sure it's marketing but in his defense he is a very good advisor.

Although have just looked inside and it's not even made out to us personally just a generic printed message!

pinetreedog · 08/12/2007 16:55

he's selling himserlf, isn't he, and making not a bad job of it.

Why not tell him you're dumping him due to arrogance of highest order and send him a Christmas card of you doing the dickhead sign?

SSStollenzeit · 08/12/2007 17:10

clam at a photo of just ONE of their dc!

Good friend of mine sends me a card every year with just a photo of her son (expensively done, studio photo) and his age on it. Don't know what I think of it TBH but at least I know what he looks like!

paulaplumpbottom · 08/12/2007 17:12

It is a bitvainbut isn'titnice that he sends something every yearfor you to laugh at

LadyOfTheFlowers · 08/12/2007 17:14

DHs cousins, who are total brown-noses towards the grandparents, give his nan and gramp as their present, crappy pics of themselves, framed with shitty verse at the side like "For the best Nan in the world" and stuff like that.

Nice.

lazawreath · 08/12/2007 17:15

A guy I knew kept a framed photo of himself by his bed!! His surname was Prince, how appropriate
