I feel like at 48, I have really started to age- creepy neck, a bit jowly, going a bit grey and not feeling great to be honest! I look after myself - don’t really drink as I see it on my face, wear nice clothes, nice hair etc but it’s becoming an effort ☹️ Wasn’t expecting it actually!! I always thought I looked pretty good for my age. I know it’s vain and I shouldn’t care but it’s just weird!!

Started getting lines at 28 (had a child at 23!!) so started with the Botox, now 31 looks like I need fillers soon Confused. I have no intention of growing old gracefully will fight it aslong as possible

orangeautumnleaves · 07/10/2021 21:17

Same age as you OP, 48. I am starting to get a fright when I look in the mirror.... considering Botox or something else, can't recall what's it's called! But yeah suddenly feel I look my age!!

bungabungaboo · 07/10/2021 21:18

The pandemic and menopause seem to be the common factors here 😂😢

KeeefBurtain · 07/10/2021 21:18

39 for me, last October in fact. I had a heart attack, was put on 8 different meds which made me put on weight, affects my joints, made my hair thin, made me pre diabetic and I’m also smothered in psoriasis. I look and feel like a completely different person. But I’m alive, so it’s not bothering me as much as it could.

Bounce55 · 07/10/2021 21:18

I've recently lost 8 stone and had my hair cut from shoulder length to a pixie cut
I look every one of my 55 years whereas I didn't before 😬

MereDintofPandiculation · 07/10/2021 21:20

@Boredofthinkingofaname

At 38 I noticed a *Lot of lines around my eyes starting, but still looked and felt pretty good. After having Dd at 40, I barely look in the mirror anymore as I hate it, since having covid March 2020 and subsequent long covid, I have grey bits in hair, grey bits in eyebrows, puffy eyes..I’m 43
Try smiling at yourself every single time you look in a mirror. You'll look better, and it's nice having a smiling face looking back at you. That's the single biggest thing that helped me feel OK about how I look.
Boredofthinkingofaname · 07/10/2021 21:20

Eurgh, this thread makes me depressed..whyyyyy do we have to age

Shoobydooer · 07/10/2021 21:20

@TheYellowOne

43 for me. I was quite smug turning 40, pleased with how I looked. However 43 saw the start of what feels like uncontrollable weight gain, a less than firm jawline and a scraggly neck. Interestingly it was also the age at which my periods started to go awry so presumably the drop in oestrogen is behind it all.
Snap! Same age and it's all just hitting me right now. The lockdown stone and peri have hit me like a truck. I'm dumpy, the turkey neck has just appeared, I have joint pain for the first time in my life!

I grew out my greys and actually love it, and I don't think middle age is bad. But I need to get into shape and adjust to the change.

My injectables doctor told me she things it comes in levels. So you'll suddenly age a level but then stay there for a while. Then suddenly again you'll be like "omg!" But then plateau and stay there a while, and so on.

Every day is a gift. Even existing at all is a gift. I'm trying to embrace ageing, to celebrate each birthday and be happy for the blessing of life. I haven't started to have a crepey neck though so maybe get back to me on that one 🤣 but I'm hoping to move forward with this attitude as I age! Fingers crossed.

SpaceshiptoMars · 07/10/2021 21:27

Sorry, eating a lemon or rubbing it on your face? And what does sauerkraut do????

Juice the lemon and dilute with lots of water - drink throughout the day - seems to sharpen up the jaw line. Musicians do this to keep their finger joints mobile.

Eating sauerkraut is the model's trick - it clears acne and does wonders for the glow of your complexion. Try starting with a teaspoon each meal, and slowly increase to about a tablespoon. Increase slowly, because it changes your gut biome and that can be uncomfortable at first.

britinnyc · 07/10/2021 21:30

I’m 46 and not yet but I have been getting Botox for a few years which helps. I have a lot of friends in the early 50s and haven’t seen any of them drop off a cliff in terms of looks, maybe they all just get a lot of work done but they all still look good. I live in a pretty health obsessed place though so everyone exercises, eats well and takes care of themselves. I do realize this is something that comes from privilege and that not everyone has the luxury of being able to do this

SpaceshiptoMars · 07/10/2021 21:32

Sorry that was @RiverSkater. Raw sauerkraut from the fridge in the health food store, not the stuff on the supermarket shelves.

Peridotty · 07/10/2021 21:36

33 after my baby was born lol. I looked very youthful before that but now I’m wrinkly!!

Facilitatingdarkness · 07/10/2021 21:37

I wonder what we'd all say to each other if we posted photos of ourselves? All of these comments about lines, jowls, wrinkles... I bet we only see this on ourselves yet think others look lovely! I think it's about adopting a positive attitude and just looking after yourself in health and mind. I hope that when I'm older, if I'm feeling good, I'll be looking good! Go easy on yourselves, everyone ❤️

Teamtrial · 07/10/2021 21:38

What does 'old woman smell' and 'old man smell' actually smell like? (Says she, sniffing herself and DH)...
Is it more than incontinence/unwashed clothes/unwashed bodies???

GoodnightGrandma · 07/10/2021 21:39

I think consuming a whole lemon every day would give me stomach ache, and I’m pretty sure it’s not not advised to drink it all day due to the acid - but happy to be corrected.

julieca · 07/10/2021 21:39

@Teamtrial some medications can bring about a certain smell.

highlandcoo · 07/10/2021 21:45

@RiverSkater

About 43 I think. I always notice in the hairdressers, especially the turkey next. 🙄

I'm early 50s now doing facial exercises which I think help me look less haggard, they take time but it's worth it and was told recently I looked 40!

What facial exercises do you do RiverSkater?

I started to do jaw exercises but was worried they were pulling my skin more and making it even looser so I stopped.

CSIblonde · 07/10/2021 21:45
  1. My eyelids & neck went overnight. My neck I've saved by Nivea body lotion daily . It's diet cheap,very rich & has reversed the withered look. Its also stopped any age spots on hands & rest of body that had started to appear.I'm 53 now & not an age spot in sight. Just started to go grey. If I had a bath not a walk in shower room, I'd go back to the drop of bath oil in it that made my skin so glowy in my 30's.
CurryLover55 · 07/10/2021 21:49

I think from about a year ago, when I was approaching 55. I injured myself & it really brought me down, physically & mentally. Only just getting over it now. I am going grey, putting weight on, getting generally more tired & achey.

GoodnightGrandma · 07/10/2021 21:56

I think my twice weekly Epsom salts bath has made my skin softer.

Ragwort · 07/10/2021 21:57

Gosh this makes depressing reading, I am 63 and feel fine, of course my hair is greyer but it is thick and luxurious Grin , I've never been slim so I am not mourning the lack of a 'fit body' but I think I look OK, my mum (88) & I have been out drinking Prosecco in the evening sunshine today and whilst we are clearly not glamorous we are both happy and healthy and even young people are making friendly conversation with us (!!).
