I feel like at 48, I have really started to age- creepy neck, a bit jowly, going a bit grey and not feeling great to be honest! I look after myself - don’t really drink as I see it on my face, wear nice clothes, nice hair etc but it’s becoming an effort ☹️ Wasn’t expecting it actually!! I always thought I looked pretty good for my age. I know it’s vain and I shouldn’t care but it’s just weird!!

@Briony123

My older cousin had no children (but desperately tried and many late miscarriages so stress and hormones happened), a partner who did all the shopping and housework, a high salary and beautiful house. She had fair skin but always looked after it, never burned, used high quality products. Didnt drink too much, smoked the occasional cigarette until late 40s. Hit 58 and BANG, old. Her partner, much the same, suddenly looked old mid 60s. I reckon women age 10 years earlier than men. Problem is, when men age, they get that old man smell. Women just look a bit ropey, they don't get the smell too. I don't know how Amal can live with George. The old man smell...
I'd take my chances and give him a sniff..should the opportunity ever present itself.

@HesterShaw1, if this thread inspires one person to find a better version of their life, it's been worthwhile. IMO you don't have rubbish hair -- you need a better hairdresser. Clicky knees need more, but gentle, exercise, not less. Cannot offer any good news about slackening jaws... it happens. Use it or lose it.

Couple of years after I had DD2, so around 38… I’m 42 now and have started to look a lot like my mum!

Wrenna · 07/10/2021 20:51

Im almost 58 but around 55 or 56. Not so much beauty wise - always pretty average that way, but physically. I tripped in the garage last year and fell and tore my knee muscle, the same foot I hurt at my old job a few years ago. I can’t stand heat (it’s very hot here) so with the heat and my injuries I can’t hike like I used to. I wake up and my joints ache, and take a nap most afternoons after work!

@ParkheadParadise

38, when dd1 died. It's 6 years now and when I look back at photos I look so different. I lost weight and was probably a size 6 for about 2 years after and didn't sleep much. The last 6 years has aged me. I'm now back at my normal size 12.
Thanks
Rocklobstershell · 07/10/2021 20:52

I think I looked pretty good for my age and then I had a surprise but very much wanted pregnancy at 47. The sleepless nights really took their toll on my looks this time around (3rd child). I’ve aged loads in a few months and now look very much my age if not a few years older: loads of grey, marionette type mouth lines, crepe paper skin, eyes like a cats arse! 😂
My teeth have also suffered and have gone a milky yellow colour which I think has put years on me. I’m trying to focus outwards as the reflection in the mirror is too depressing.

  1. The year after having DS. The lines on my face are deep.
thehairyhog · 07/10/2021 20:54

Nodding along with lots of these! I'm finding it quite therapeutic somehow Grin

Definitely lost any glowy look of youth I had in the year after I had dd (so around 37), no doubt due to sleep deprivation. DH did too. We chuckle at photos of us from before she was 1!

Felt all right at 40 but have definitely aged a lot in the two years since then. Maybe there something in the pandemic comments - I wouldn't even say I had a bad one! DH also went v grey! agree with the bone structure comments, sadly I have little in the way of cheekbones so jowls are coming and have a scraggy neck which I'm sure will only get worse. Agree with seeing my dad staring back at me in the mirror sometimes or from photos with no make up, it is disconcerting! Grin Lucky to have a good figure still. I think I'm at the stage where on a good day I can still look pretty good, but on a bad day I definitely look a bit haggard and old now Confused

Also agree with the can't be bothered with things anymore and becoming boring. Never go out past 6pm any more and I'm not even sorry!

Currently pregnant, yet to achieve anything close to glowing in pregnancy and lord knows what this one will do to my face Grin

52 when peri menopause kicked in.

Boredofthinkingofaname · 07/10/2021 21:00

At 38 I noticed a *Lot of lines around my eyes starting, but still looked and felt pretty good. After having Dd at 40, I barely look in the mirror anymore as I hate it, since having covid March 2020 and subsequent long covid, I have grey bits in hair, grey bits in eyebrows, puffy eyes..I’m 43

Lurleene · 07/10/2021 21:00

I'd say 45. I know this because a friend of mine who is older looked at me and said 'You're 45 now aren't you Lurleene? That's when everything caved in for me looks wise too'. Hmm As you can imagine that stuck with me.

I only have a few greys and no wrinkles but I have definitely lost my 'bloom'.

I'm not going to admit how old I am. However, I can heartily recommend a lemon a day and sauerkraut with every meal as a dirt cheap make your skin look good treatment. My skin looks lovely now - better than it has done since childhood.

Deadringer · 07/10/2021 21:02

45

Shesaysso · 07/10/2021 21:03

Came on to say 47/48 and notice that so many people have said this age too!

AllMonthLong · 07/10/2021 21:05

Comes in stages. I lost a certain glow to my complexion around 40. I’m 44 now and my eyes and marionette lines have started to become more obvious, and my skin is more crepey and pore-y. I reckon every 2-3 years I suddenly age noticeably.

NotJustACigar · 07/10/2021 21:07

Also around 47/48. What did it for me was losing some weight and the skin on my neck got all loose and baggy. I realised I actually look better with a little more weight on me now which is nice in a way! Then at 49 started getting lines around my mouth.

MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 07/10/2021 21:10

I lost 8 stone 2 years ago (at 52) and my face has aged a good ten years. The fat kept the wrinkles at bay but I'm healthier so I suppose that's what counts 😬

RiverSkater · 07/10/2021 21:10

About 43 I think. I always notice in the hairdressers, especially the turkey next. 🙄

I'm early 50s now doing facial exercises which I think help me look less haggard, they take time but it's worth it and was told recently I looked 40!

Sorry, eating a lemon or rubbing it on your face? And what does sauerkraut do????
Libraryghost · 07/10/2021 21:12
  1. It seems to happen overnight doesn’t it! I caught sight of my jowls and crepey neck in a shop mirror and was horrified. It comes to us all. Not much you can do about it really unless you want to start spending money to look like Michael Jackson.
LadyCatStark · 07/10/2021 21:13

34 thanks to the pandemic 😡.

My 3 colleagues at work are the same age as me - 47. We haven’t seen each other for over a year due to covid and when we all met up I thought Christ you lot have aged, I bet all of us had the same thought!
