I feel like at 48, I have really started to age- creepy neck, a bit jowly, going a bit grey and not feeling great to be honest! I look after myself - don’t really drink as I see it on my face, wear nice clothes, nice hair etc but it’s becoming an effort ☹️ Wasn’t expecting it actually!! I always thought I looked pretty good for my age. I know it’s vain and I shouldn’t care but it’s just weird!!

I'm still ok at 46. In fact, look better now than I did at 35 when I had new borns and toddlers amd was a good 10 kg overweight.
It's clearly imminent though...

HoikingUpMyBigGirlPantss · 07/10/2021 18:47

51 and 3/4 Wink
I've always been told I look younger than my age (i'm short) but lockdown lard and a lack of daily exercise definitely aged me. Aches and pains in joints and I looked haggard. Glad to report that the weight is slowly going with more exercise and better diet and I feel so much better Wink

WorkBitch · 07/10/2021 18:48
  1. Mid pandemic 😣
impossible · 07/10/2021 18:50

Not entirely sure as I'm careful about mirror placement but I would say mid 50s, particularly after I lost some weight. Saggy jowls went but scraggy neck emerged and nose seems bigger.

Solution seems to be not to look at photos of younger self (or have photos taken next to youthful dcs). Other than that, women I know who look good in their 60s and 70s are slim and very active so I'm trying to aim for that. The problem of course is life takes unexpected turns.

lightand · 07/10/2021 18:52

49
Aged 3 years in 3 months.
Wasnt as bad before or since.

ParkheadParadise · 07/10/2021 18:54

38, when dd1 died.
It's 6 years now and when I look back at photos I look so different. I lost weight and was probably a size 6 for about 2 years after and didn't sleep much. The last 6 years has aged me.
I'm now back at my normal size 12.

  1. My face/neck started to disintegrate over night. I caught sight of myself earlier and had a cry. Blush
MrsKDB · 07/10/2021 18:57

Agree with hard core yoga. I’m in better shape physically in my forties than in my twenties so everything else feels manageable.

I agree.

The truth is a little painful to hear, but as the decades pass the extra 3 pounds a year in weight, body stiffness, adds up. By the time we hit 50 things can be bad.
The good news is that we don't have to accept that. HRT or not ( I didn;t need it) keeping up attention to weight, diet and exercise pays massive dividends.
I am a size 10, taught, toned, and feel energetic. I can run up stairs, climb trees, and feel good physically and emotionally. It is harder as we age- but not outwith our grasp.
I prioritise my health highly. I look forward to being 70- and barring any medical condition still move with ease.

Orla1970 · 07/10/2021 18:58

I’d say I’ve aged in last 2 years so from 50 but I think this may be a combination of menopause/pandemic and work stress. Also I’m wondering if I’m just scrutinising myself much more than before. Spend all day on MS Teams calls so keep catching myself examining my face from every angle! Grin

thewhatsit · 07/10/2021 19:00

I wonder if there are several times a woman ages quite a lot overnight then, going from these comments.
I certainly look practically unrecognisable from my pre-baby self even though I wear the same clothes and body wise am the same. Guess maybe it’ll plateau now until menopause….

speakout · 07/10/2021 19:01

MrsKDB

Great to hear- and near to 60 I sail though yoga classes with ease. Chataranga, side plank, headstand, plough, full lotus, crow, all part of my usual practice. I can do more than when I was 30.

NiceGerbil · 07/10/2021 19:02

Was when I noticed that I was.. changing.

Not getting old but. Yep. I have become middle aged.

Before that I still felt and behaved and enjoyed the things I always had IE young.

I still go to gigs and festivals and raves etc but. Much less often!

Oh bullshit. I'm physically fit as a fiddle and from the shoulders down I look a decade or two younger. Aging can still literally smack you in the face even if you are a perfectly healthy, fit looking weight.

Skin collapses if it doesn't have adequate bones to support it. My unfortunate genes are to blame, not my 21 BMI.

NiceGerbil · 07/10/2021 19:04

Looks wise I haven't changed much really. Just a little grey.

For me it's about how you feel and think and that sort of thing.

Squashedkoosh · 07/10/2021 19:04

35? I’m 37 now and look ten years older. Was ugly to begin with and only getting worse. 😂

FangsForTheMemory · 07/10/2021 19:05

post-menopause, about 55. I mean I had grey hair and a few saggy bits, but it really accellerated.

Innovationstandard · 07/10/2021 19:06

Mid 50's, my face, oh god my face 😖

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 07/10/2021 19:07

I'm very grey age 37 but am OK with it since I grew out my colour.

Physically the strongest I've ever been thanks to lifting weights regularly. Still a bit overweight but not much.

Luckily my skin is good and hair doesn't need straightening so I wash and go. I'm OK for now.

RandomWordGenerator · 07/10/2021 19:11

41 was a definite difference - my neck is my biggest problem. Although possibly that’s the age in the mirror for the first time in years, after having had babies mid to late 30s.

Now late 40s and again seems to be a jump in how old I look in photos. In some it’s fine and I could be in my 30s, in others I think - who’s that middle aged woman??

I feel just as physically fit though.

RandomWordGenerator · 07/10/2021 19:11
  • that’s the age I looked in the mirror
Chicchicchicchiclana · 07/10/2021 19:12
  1. I injured my back in an accident and am a lot more creaky since then.

It's not weird. It's totally normal. You're a similar age to me, so of course we don't look like we did in our 20's, but so what? More important to me is that my health is good and that myself and my family are happy and thriving.
KimDeals · 07/10/2021 19:17

I don't know how Amal can live with George. The old man smell...

Grin actually you’re right! The old man smell UGH!

Like a bad damp dog.

LOL. So we can think away sagging skin and collapsing contours? All those poor, aging people queuing up to get sliced and diced must have been thinking the 'wrong' thoughts. Good to know.
