I feel like at 48, I have really started to age- creepy neck, a bit jowly, going a bit grey and not feeling great to be honest! I look after myself - don’t really drink as I see it on my face, wear nice clothes, nice hair etc but it’s becoming an effort ☹️ Wasn’t expecting it actually!! I always thought I looked pretty good for my age. I know it’s vain and I shouldn’t care but it’s just weird!!

A few days my smart tv showed a photo of me at 35, I’m 50 now. I knew I was ageing but hadn’t realised how much until then, I can’t look in the mirror anymore as it depresses me.

BoredZelda · 08/10/2021 19:19

I don’t care / haven’t noticed anything looks wise. But I certainly started to feel my age in the last couple of years, I’m late forties. Creaking bones and muscles.

Barney60 · 08/10/2021 19:20

Peri-menopause starts roughly around 45ish (some earlier some later) thats when i started to notice, slight weight gain around my back/neck which i couldnt shift then stomach, tired bit grumpy then feet hurt , craved sweet stuff (never ate before) ached all over rest is history im now officially a chubby wrinkly oldie...

GinPin2 · 08/10/2021 19:21

Slipped a disc in my lower back down on my newly acquired allotment.
Now, after 3 years, I have terrible sciatica trying to get out of bed in the mornings. After an hour I am okay ( ish) and am just left with the normal aches and pains that I have learnt to live with.
Everything hurts Sad

Also find that looking after grandchildren is a lot more tiring now with the youngest, than 10 years ago with the eldest.

Also slower at mental maths, finding the correct word, etc ( was a teacher until Covid struck ).
I have not noticed myself looking older though, but friends who I have not seen for a while - well they do look older !!! Smile

Branchlight
Yes i remember that too, so sensitive it hurt to walk, my saviour google Yes womans products, i use oil based in that area all the time.

OhWhyNot · 08/10/2021 19:23

A huge bonus of the peri menopause is I just don’t care like I used to

Yes I would like to look younger and slimmer but if I had aged like I have before being peri menopausal it would have got me down

Now I just not so bothered or what others think so much.

I keep thinking it will hit me I will care but it hasn’t happened yet

LoisLane66 · 08/10/2021 19:40

At 58 I was taken to be mid 40s and at my son's 21st, guests who didn't know me thought I was his sister - I put it down to the lighting, I was 51. 😉🤭
After my 65th I started to grow into my real age.
Nowadays I kid myself that in this PC world, it's frowned on to feign surprise at me using a bus pass, as has happened in the past. The reality is when I look in the mirror.
I recently bought one of those back trainers such as they use in Strictly training sessions to encourage a straight back and I wear it occasionally around the house.
It's so easy to slump when your online and I'm aware of the difference when I compare my posture in a mirror.
I think curvy women tend to show fewer lines.

earthyfire · 08/10/2021 19:44

I'm nearly 43 and my bones ache, my hair hasn't greyed yet. I don't have many wrinkles or crows feet but I am noticing that the corners of my mouth is going to need a bit of help soon. The pandemic hasn't helped because I put on weight.

Yes agree, I don’t really care. I look after myself but am happy to accept my lines and slightly heavier frame.
DDMAC · 08/10/2021 19:49

I’m 48 and it’s just this year it’s started. I suddenly have under eye and eyelid wrinkles. That line at the nasolabial fold has suddenly deepened. I’m finding it hard to accept.

LorenzoVonMatterhorn · 08/10/2021 19:50

My hair has very few greys but my face has definitely changed this past year. Loose skin. And i now need to wear glasses a lot more. Im 42.

Robin233 · 08/10/2021 19:58

Not yet (I'm 56) I do have an active job which also keeps me mental alert.
I also love walking and gardening. Being outside helps me mentally.
I've never smoked and only moderately drink in the last 10 years or so.
And drink plenty of water and mostly healthy food.
But a positive mental attitude is really important too.
(I probably should get more sleep though )

I’m 45 in a week and have really struggled with my confidence for a year. My face suddenly seemed to drop. I had to cut costs on my skincare so opted for cheaper moisturiser but have been doing the whole regime, I glow!!! It’s definitely taken a couple of years off and I feel good. I use face wash, micellaire water, cleanse, tone, moisturise then anti-aging eye cream morning and night. Exfoliate twice a week. It sounds a lot - I thought I’d never have time (job plus 2.5 year old) but actually it’s a ten minute spa that makes me feel super refreshed. I use the Avene french pharmacy range (hyper moisturising) but for normal or combination skin la Roche posay is best. 3 for 2 at Boots so reasonable with the offer. Can’t recommend enough and the hormone balancing vitamins and ubiquinol have taken away perimenopause. It’s just what’s worked for me but thought I’d share. Also, I’m sure you still look lovely, we are all super critical of ourselves, hugs xx

wentworthinmate · 08/10/2021 20:15

About 42 the lines started to come around my mouth. I've had Botox since my early 30's due to a furrowed brow but the laugh lines are creeping round. I still get told I look 10 years younger but I know that I've peaked!!!

Dibbydoos · 08/10/2021 20:24

HiFU works wonders!!!

fruckkkit · 08/10/2021 20:26

48 here and I'd say it's really kicked in the last year or two. My face has just kind of dropped 😭

Lykke1000 · 08/10/2021 20:35

@speakout what kind of yoga is hard core? I somehow find all the yoga classes that I’ve tried too soft and pointless (although I’m not that good wit my balance)

Lykke1000 · 08/10/2021 20:38

@Dibbydoos could you please explain it? How old are you, when, how often, where, how much £Smile

SusannaOwens · 08/10/2021 20:46

@DameMaureen
Why would you " tough it out "? Do you do that with any other condition? Do you say to the dentist no anaesthesia , I will just tough it out ? You do know that menopause can last for years ?

I know in theory, but my Mum had a year of not too bad symptoms and is now as fit as a flea at 72, yoga, ballet and lots of walking.
HRT isn't perfect and it's balancing the side effects with the benefits. I'd be happier not to take anything, but the joints issues totally floored me, I went 4mths without any exercise and that's not healthy either. I filled in a menopause questionnaire at the doctors and unexpectedly ticked pretty much every box, the GP said I think you'd really benefit from HRT and I have.

the80sweregreat · 08/10/2021 20:47

About 52

Moonface123 · 08/10/2021 20:53

Well what's the alternative, to die young?

Moonface123 · 08/10/2021 20:54

When you have lost a lot of young people in your life, these conversations really grate.

Elvisismycat · 08/10/2021 20:55

@LouLou789

I was ok until I was 47. Got cancer and the treatments knocked me for six, plus the instant menopause. Never the same after that. However, with no cancer (ie looking round my friends) I would say 50 is quite a watershed.
Sending you a virtual hug ❤
Elvisismycat · 08/10/2021 20:59
