Not a wish list btw.
I'm mid thirties and I think I will see the end of:
Petrol and diesel cars
Cows milk (majority drinking soy/oat)
Pork being eaten by most
Smoking (that's hopeful)
People casually throwing around comments about people's weight
Royal family
Legacy benefits :(
Landline telephones
Desktop computers
A lot of pubs :( :(

@HoppingPavlova

Cars that we own/drive. I think there will be self-navigating cars that you just order on demand in an app and enough of them that you shouldn’t have to wait to long or could pay a premium for emergency urgent use or whatnot to jump the queue.

Cash. I would think we would get the option of some chip implant and if you refuse it will eventually end up you can’t buy anything.

I sure hope not. If I see what people do to the seats on public transportation I can only imagine what they would do inside a self-navigating car you order. I keep my vehicle relatively clean. It would just gross me out to use mass shared cars.
Warhertisuff · 07/10/2021 07:35

I'm curious as to why some people think cow's milk will disappear?

Yogsgirl · 07/10/2021 07:35

Some people on this thread seem to live in a parallel universe!

Our lifetimes are not that long -for some of the things suggested on here to disappear in that time is ludicrous!

SoundBar · 07/10/2021 07:38

Facts

Lovemusic33 · 07/10/2021 07:39

I can see milk or pork going anywhere in my life time 🤣, bacon is the food of gods.

Things that will go….

Argos (haven’t used argos for years)

Free hold pubs (this makes me sad but most have been taken over by big companies and many are struggling).

Cashiers, I think we will mainly be self service or scan as we go, more people will do their food shop online (already happening).

The end of Facebook, the novelty will wear off and something bigger and better will take over.

Would love to see the end of the royal family but I don’t think it will happen, would love to see more people growing their own food and more communal growing spaces for those that don’t have gardens.

drumandhake · 07/10/2021 07:41

Maybe it's where I live but I don't bring pork products to eat for social occasions now. People either don't eat it for religious reasons or don't eat meat at all. A friend did a birthday party the other day with sausage rolls and ham sandwiches and no one ate them. It's just not a thing you see around here.
Lots of pork free nurseries and veggie schools too, I would never send my child into school with meat products, it just doesn't feel right.

And my partner is a butcher lol

@SisforSoppy

People casually throwing around comments about people's weight

That won’t be going unless there is a way of making being overweight healthy. The NHS however won’t be around to pick up the bill, and health insurance companies will place premiums on the insurance payments of the overweight

It might go away because EVERYONE becomes overweight! Although then we'd die out more quickly because the tax-funded health system wouldnt be able to keep up. The EU. The UK. The Royal Family. Thinking you can emigrate to the other side of the globe but still visit "home" every year. Travel will go back to how it was before the 80s when if you moved down under, that was that. Or... Boat travel will increase again - people "WFH" on the boat to Australia for a month, as the affordable option.
Mybalconyiscracking · 07/10/2021 07:42

DD, if she doesn’t put her cereal bowl in the dishwasher and go and make her bed!

Watchingyou2sleezes · 07/10/2021 07:45

Individual car ownership.
Not in my life time but certainly the youngest child's.
You'll just hit an app, hire by the minute etc and a driverless "car" will roll up.

Millions of vehicles sitting around doing nothing for 90% odd of the time will be seen as a foolish concept

HalzTangz · 07/10/2021 07:47

Cash
Printed newspapers/magazines
State pensions.
Petrol and diesel cars
Landlines.
CDs
Face to face appointments
Full time office working will become hybrid/WFH

I don't think milk will go anywhere, in my area the milk alternatives are not popular with people at all.

narkyspirit · 07/10/2021 07:47

Common Sense....... ohh hang on!!!!
taking responsibility for your actions..... as above
Cash
GP surgeries, you struggle to get an appointment now!!! 10 yrs none left

Changednamehere56 · 07/10/2021 07:50

The NHS appears on many lists here. Why? I ask as an Australian, living in Melbourne and considering a second career in nursing. Your NHS is regarded as a model of good, universal health care. (It might not be, of course, but it looks good from this distance, and Brits in Australia rave about it.) Is there some horrible plan to dismantle it? I sincerely hope not.
The "left" has been certain that the NHS is on the verge of being abolished since the 1980s a least... It really isn't.

Common sense Compassion Empathy
Hate to break it to you but most have this has gone already Grin
mylovelydd · 07/10/2021 07:52

Out of interest why pork @drumandhake?

FrangipaniBlue · 07/10/2021 07:53

@TheLongDrop

Thin people as standard
Already happened.

In the UK and most other developed nations (Asia aside) we have a very very skewed view of what is healthy.

FrangipaniBlue · 07/10/2021 07:54

I've seen a few posters suggest this, you clearly don't live in very rural areas Confused

mylovelydd · 07/10/2021 07:54

No need to reply just saw your previous post which answered it @drumandhake

I think bacon is definitely around to stay

AhNowTed · 07/10/2021 07:54

@Warhertisuff

The "right" has been undermining and underfunding it for years, so the "left" have every cause for concern.

The NHS and social services are running on fumes.

In my area, a 40% cut in the last 5 years.

Yes, one centred around the South/South East of England where some of the suggestions could actually be plausible.

Zero comprehension for what life is like in the rest of UK, let along rest of the world Confused

Cactus1982 · 07/10/2021 07:58

First thing I thought when I read the title was petrol and diesel cars. Within ten years ithey’ll be gone altogether.

The NHS (sadly)

The United Kingdom

Practicebeingpatient · 07/10/2021 08:04

So much has already been and gone in my lifetime! The coal man, dog licences, starter handles on cars, doctors smoking in the surgery, walkmans, the testcard, caning in schools, every home having a chip pan, being paid cash weekly for white collar jobs, only being able to withdraw cash from your bank account between 9.30 -3.30 Monday to Friday. Other amazing things have been introduced - ready made mashed potato is a wonderful thing. A woman can go into a pub on her own and not be assumed to be looking for trade. And of courses, the Internet and tiny inexpensive computers in our homes and handbags.

I predict that cheques will be obsolete soon I'd like to think that the use of palm oil in food will die out too. And I bloody hate electronic keys in hotels. They are an 'improvement' that only benefits the business and are a real PITA for the customer.

It is great but a lot on mumsnet love to moan about it. I've had 3 babies, vaccinations, gp appointments without paying a penny other than in taxes. I also have an NHS dentist who's great.
dottiedodah · 07/10/2021 08:07

I think we are seeing the beginnings now TBH. We are moving towards a cashless society (Am I the only one pleased ,no more cash to carry for bus/tube anything!) Cars are going towards an electric system . Meat products less in favour and so on. I think these are positives TBH
