Not a wish list btw.
I'm mid thirties and I think I will see the end of:
Petrol and diesel cars
Cows milk (majority drinking soy/oat)
Pork being eaten by most
Smoking (that's hopeful)
People casually throwing around comments about people's weight
Royal family
Legacy benefits :(
Landline telephones
Desktop computers
A lot of pubs :( :(

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 06/10/2021 23:55

The coastline of pretty much all countries and shorelines of inland lakes.

Offices.

Birds.

Bees.

Insects.

Food grown naturally outdoors in the soil with real weather.

Fish.

Cash.

The House of Windsor.

Also - privacy and the expectation of privacy.

Brindisi32 · 07/10/2021 00:00

Moulded electrical goods replaced with accessible units
Disposable fashion disappears
Certain types of cancers will decrease due to immunotherapy
City centres will have fewer shops, more accommodation
More private healthcare/NHS services will be minimal
Lab grown meat
Dental fillings to be replaced by lab grown dental tissue
Flat faced dogs and cats will disappear

Blossomtoes · 07/10/2021 00:01

Human life.

Thewiseoneincognito · 07/10/2021 00:04

All Dairy products hopefully
Factory farming of animals for food
Obesity
Smoking
Energy drinks
Glasses

Stoppochoco · 07/10/2021 00:07

Having a bath, water will be rationed.
Heating your home and other utilities will be limited too.
Going off social media and mumsnet, no dogs will EVER be let of a lead and cats won't be free to roam.
My more optomistic self hopes there is a backlash against technology and people go back to a simpler way of life.

CocoHeart · 07/10/2021 00:12

People saying hello to one another as they pass whilst out walking...it's already happening here 🙄

toomuchlaundry · 07/10/2021 00:18

Why is pork being singled out from other meats?

Isn’t baby formula milk mainly cows milk based? Also can’t see dairy cheese disappearing

HailAdrian · 07/10/2021 00:22

I forgot to add Argos.

Strokethefurrywall · 07/10/2021 00:26

The idea that everyone will stop eating animals in the next few decades is a very privileged first world view. Very easy to be able to say that you 'don't exploit animals' when you have an abundance of tasty and nutritious alternatives one Tesco delivery away...

I don't eat meat or dairy and my grocery bill is cheaper than it was before i stopped. I'd hazard a guess that in the poorest parts of Africa, their meals are predominantly maize/corn based.

Mass factory farmed meat will become obsolete when the world is faced with antibiotic resistance and another COVID type outbreak, and meat will ultimately go back to small farm holdings producing for local requirements. It will become more expensive of course, the way it used to be.

And with the abundance of fruit and vegetables around, it would be very easy and much cheaper to feed a family. It's not simply about "not exploiting the animals" at all, but the world cannot sustain the ecological damage mass produced meat is causing.

NCBlossom · 07/10/2021 00:36

Facts

If some of the recent politics, self identification as anything and flat earthers are going to gain more ground.

WomanIsTaken · 07/10/2021 01:05

Haven't RTFT, but came on to say Norfolk and Bangladesh, and then found this corker by OP: maybe I'm in a lefty south west bubble but aren't most making steps to (try to) change that?
No, "most" aren't, and I am really surprised and worried if you, as someone who has taken the trouble to research small personal lifestyle changes, has been left with the impression that this will be anywhere near enough to prevent flooding of low lying areas. It will take permanent and drastic reductions in carbon emissions now, with developed nations leading the way, to remain below 3C warming, let alone 1.5C. You need to get behind some campaigns and engage in well targeted climate activism to affect policy change and government action.

groovergirl · 07/10/2021 01:10

The NHS appears on many lists here. Why? I ask as an Australian, living in Melbourne and considering a second career in nursing. Your NHS is regarded as a model of good, universal health care. (It might not be, of course, but it looks good from this distance, and Brits in Australia rave about it.) Is there some horrible plan to dismantle it? I sincerely hope not.

What have antibiotic resistance and COVID got to do with each other?

I do think meat is going to become more expensive and some aspects of factory farming will change. But I can’t see any chance we’ll go back to small holdings producing for local markets unless the world economy collapses (which isn’t out of the question, but I don’t think it’s likely ).

Graphista · 07/10/2021 01:43

Petrol cars I agree

Cd's and dvds are pretty much obsolete now though who knows with the resurgence vinyl is having

Cigarettes/smoking I hope!

Landline phones - once the internet providers sort out this nonsense of having to have one to get internet! I haven't used one for about 8 years! But still have to pay for it!

@Trisolaris I hope you're wrong re nhs but fear you may be right esp if bloody tories win next election

@MurielSpriggs as a scot I think you may be right there. I think Scotland will be first to leave the union but then I think Northern Ireland and Wales won't be far behind and maybe even places like Cornwall, Isle of Man etc

The UK. Scotland will vote to leave within 20 years

I give it 15 tops possibly even 10

The SNP - Yep! Even though they're the party that will prob gain us independence I think they'll have a boost of success initially but then vanish when scots develop other competing political parties. Snp are basically conservative in values/ideology and scots are more socialist really so a socialist party will come through I think.

I don't know anybody that still uses one. (landline phone)

My mother! But that's mainly as she's in the arse end of nowhere and her mobile signal is shit! No matter who she were to be with this is the case. But I think/hope the mobile companies will get that sorted soonish though why it hasn't been until now I don't know! Not like we're a big country!

Cash I think will go, my dd was up for a visit recently and astonished I still use cash!

Royal family - I'm as republican as they come but in all honesty I don't think they'll go altogether. I think when the queen dies Charles and William will each make steps to reduce the spread though and hopefully have a more modern slimmed down version. If though as I said Scotland leaves the union won't be our problem any more!

Capitalism - I hope! We've seen throughout this century so far and towards end of last that it simply doesn't work in a number of ways. A new system is needed and no it needn't be communism! There are a number of options

@Meadowland oh no I love my teapot!

@TheChippendenSpook omg yes don't even get me started on sodding passwords!

Royal mail daily delivery of letters

Already happened here. Between covid and Brexit they're v short staffed and so each street gets one delivery a week mines on a Tuesday

Labour Party Sad

sadly I agree it seems determined to eat itself in a gorging of wokeness! But with zero common sense and no awareness of their lack of connection to the working class...

But I think a new left wing/working class party will emerge in its place, I hope so

Plugs / wires (I think there will be a better way to charge things in the future)

Yes a friends husband is an electrician and he is noticing a change here and says there are various new pieces of equipment/tech coming in that will make sockets etc obsolete. Not sure if it will happen in my lifetime (I'm 49) but I think it will in dds

@Eeiliethya my dd very rarely uses email, she uses WhatsApp/kik/Facebook messenger more for that kinda thing. I have to message her to tell her I've sent an email (cos I can't figure out how to send attachments except photos by non email means )

Domination of the West in international politics. I agree, not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

Fireworks sold to the public. We can hope! Utterly ludicrous that they still are

@mathanxiety if bees completely go we're all fucked! Thinking you already know this?

@HailAdrian I can see Argos going within 3 years! Sainsbury’s have totally screwed it over! Which is annoying

@groovergirl the nhs IS generally pretty bloody amazing but our current govt don't believe in it - or more accurately don't like paying for it (even though it's not their money they view it this way) and not making a profit from healthcare the tories never have and are doing all they can to undermine it and destroy it! It's infuriating! A lot of us are extremely worried they're gonna fuck it up/privatise it by stealth.

Strokethefurrywall · 07/10/2021 02:00

@NumberTheory they don’t have anything to do with each other but they independently have strong links to mass produced meat.
Cheap meats are full of antibiotics to stave off the vast number of infections the animals are exposed to on factory farms. Mass antibiotic exposure means bacteria are becoming harder to treat with conventional medicine. This is also true of doctor prescribed antibiotics in humans. We now have MRSA in hospitals that regular antibiotics can’t kill and other infections becoming harder to treat.

Similarly, Covid-19, swine flu, bird flu etc have all developed due to the way animals have been kept/farmed/slaughtered.

BSideBaby · 07/10/2021 02:02

maybe I'm in a lefty south west bubble but aren't most making steps to (try to) change that? Even my least concerned friends seem to be walking more and eating less meat.

Too little too late, sadly.

Andrea87 · 07/10/2021 02:07

Using words such as boys and girls.
Pronouns she and he.
Men and women public toilets
Menopause symptoms,
Cheap air travel,
Importing food from abroad
Zoos
Cancer

.
What they may invent is that you watch a cookery program and at the end this meal magically appears out of the tv , but maybe we won’t be eating food as we know it any more but just be eating high energy pills and drinks.

burritofan · 07/10/2021 02:23

Fashion and glossy magazines
Glitter
Sequins
Non-recyclable packaging
24/7 energy and water
State pension
NHS
Air travel
Petrol and diesel cars
Private car ownership altogether
Smoking
Disposable nappies
Tumble dryers
City centres as we know them
Takeaway coffee cups

You will be able to chose the sex of your child, most will chose a boy.
This will lead to less females, lower birth rates, and more females will transition to become male.
Girls will transition at a younger age to avoid going through puberty.
I’m fascinated as to why you think this?

fashionSOS · 07/10/2021 03:10

Physical cash
State pensions
Landlines

starrynight21 · 07/10/2021 03:18

@CocoHeart

People saying hello to one another as they pass whilst out walking...it's already happening here 🙄
Huh ? Why would that happen ? When I go for a walk, everyone whether walking or cycling, says hello as we pass. You might just live in a grumpy neighbourhood !
starrynight21 · 07/10/2021 03:20

Most of these things look like personal wish lists , rather than list of things will most likely disappear.

HeartsAndClubs · 07/10/2021 03:51

There are an awful lot of bitter people on this thread.

Mn will be gone in 10 years.
