Our government doesn't know what misogyny is.

Well - Dominic Raab definitely doesn't. Speaking to the BBC, he said "insults and misogyny is absolutely wrong whether it's a man against a woman or a woman against a man".

Who are these people we've put in charge of our country?

And how is there any hope of things improving for women with this lot at the helm?

@Clavinova

As far as I know neither of them earn a living from cut'n'pasting irrelevant twaddle on a parenting forum.

Neither do I.

You take in ironing as well do you?
Clavinova · 06/10/2021 20:32

I think I was very clear. In my opinion she's slightly vacuous (which is acceptable as a second-string BBC presenter)

Would you describe a man as slightly vacuous or a second-string? I wouldn't - sounds quite sexist to me.

Dh likes ironing.

If a man was slightly vacuous or a second-string I would describe him as exactly that. The slightly chubby bloke who's on at weekends and reminds me of Dom Joly for example.

I'm not sure what the relevance is in this thread about the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor not understanding the meaning of the word 'misogyny' though?

ZigZagCat · 06/10/2021 20:41

@AnyFucker

Thick as.
Grin

Well, between the misogyny gaffe, the 'sea was closed' and the Dover-Calais debacle, I do think Raab is a little bit 'emerging' when it comes to a number of skills.

I guess 'Thick as' is a little more direct and possibly more accurate.

So you think Sally Nugent is Dan Walker's slightly vacuous second-string?

SecretSpAD · 06/10/2021 20:42

@HarrietsChariot

I can't get too worked up at this. All he meant was that it is wrong to insult a person because they are a particular sex. He meant "insults and misogyny or misandry are absolutely wrong whether it's a man against a woman or a woman against a man." Misandry might not be seen as such a problem - to the extent that our leaders have perhaps never heard of the term(!) - but the point is valid.
Just 🤦‍♀️

They need to learn from the the left on this issue they are the beacon of light.

I'm not paid at all
So your absolutely and completely uncritical devotion to the Tories is given for free??? Grin Grin Grin
I'm too thick.
That explains the devotion then!!! Grin Grin Grin

DingleyDel · 06/10/2021 20:47

How utterly depressing. Think it’s a bit rich of David Lammy to comment on violence against women and girls seeing as last week he was accusing us of hoarding rights.

Clavinova · 06/10/2021 20:49

If a man was slightly vacuous or a second-string I would describe him as exactly that. The slightly chubby bloke who's on at weekends and reminds me of Dom Joly for example.

So he's common, overweight, slightly vacuous and a second-string? Nice.

SecretSpAD · 06/10/2021 20:49

@worriedatthemoment

He used two words insult as well maybe he was also referring to that as women can insult men etc , that seems clear to me
Women certainly do insult men. That may be a problem. However the bigger problem is that MEN are murdering WOMEN. Ffs stop apologising for this man.
FatFredsFriedEgg · 06/10/2021 20:52

I said that she was a second-string BBC presenter - meaning one of the presenters used when the main presenters aren't available. For all I know she may now be a main presenter now that Louise Minchin has left but she certainly isn't the same standard as either Louise Minchin or Naga Munchetty.

I didn't mention either Dan Walker or any other male presenter. But of course you wanted to move the thread away from the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor not understanding the meaning of the word 'misogyny'.

Is that because you're paid to do that or do you rabidly support the government no matter what mistakes they make because you're just a bit odd?

Common? How do you infer that?
Clavinova · 06/10/2021 21:01

Common? How do you infer that?

BLOKE | meaning in the Cambridge English Dictionary

Meaning of bloke in English...a man, often one who is considered to be ordinary.

With regard your AIBU op - Our government doesn't know what misogyny is.
I think it's more likely our government don't care what misogyny is. They have spend years defunding the police and CPS.

FatFredsFriedEgg · 06/10/2021 21:09

@Clavinova

It's odd that you don't seem to quite grasp that common English usage when you seem so familiar with the language otherwise.

Clavinova · 06/10/2021 21:10

Is that because you're paid to do that or do you rabidly support the government no matter what mistakes they make because you're just a bit odd?

Now you're being rude about me as well. How many more people are you going to insult? Grin

Clavinova · 06/10/2021 21:12

FatFredsFriedEgg

Look right in your link - thanks!!

Bloke is a slang term for a common man in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa...

You're the one who implied that my school fees (which you imagined) were wasted. How rude. Grin
ivykaty44 · 06/10/2021 21:14

Makes you wonder what they did teach at the school he attended

Chipsinthewoods · 06/10/2021 21:14

Sorry I wouldn’t know where to start finding the thread, but I remember one on the FWR board about an article/speech written by Raab, claiming improved equality in the workplace for women was damaging life chances for men. Apparently middle class women were taking places that should rightfully go to men from poorer back grounds and they should effectively step aside. No mention of sharing the privilege enjoyed by middle class men.

I’m not sure if he’s thick or just thoughtless when it comes to women. As long as they remain well behaved support humans and allow the men to do the important things, he probably doesn’t consider their experiences beyond a few sexist insults. (Which beggars belief when this is put in the context of the Sarah Everard case and the serious failings in prosecutions for rape, “rough sex” murders, and culture in the police). He doesn’t know what misogyny is because he never cared to find out.

Clavinova · 06/10/2021 21:16

You have just linked to a page that backs up my point!
