Our government doesn't know what misogyny is.

Well - Dominic Raab definitely doesn't. Speaking to the BBC, he said "insults and misogyny is absolutely wrong whether it's a man against a woman or a woman against a man".

Who are these people we've put in charge of our country?

And how is there any hope of things improving for women with this lot at the helm?

@Clavinova

You suggest that it's just a standard 'state school'

No, but I think you assumed he went to Eton. They teach Latin and Greek A-Level at Keir Starmer's old school. Oh, and Dominic Raab was only 12 when his father died of cancer - Starmer doesn't have a monopoly when it comes to ill parents either.

It was me who mentioned what school he went to so why would you 'think' that I 'assumed' he went to Eton? I had no knowledge (or opinion) on his school before you brought the subject up. I just said that he is thick.

I was schooled at an internationally well-known and well-respected independent school. I'm definitely not intelligent enough to be Deputy Prime Minister etc. but I was far more intelligent than many in my cohort. Many of them were actually a bit thick, but not as thick as Raab demonstrates himself to be.

You're the only person mentioning Starmer or ill parents as well. I assume you're trying to divert (again) from Raab just being a bit thick?

Are you paid by the word? Do they differentiate between your own words and the words you cut'n'paste?

jgw1 · 06/10/2021 19:28

he is thick

I thought that was the main requirement for being appointed to the current cabinet?

FatFredsFriedEgg · 06/10/2021 19:31

@jgw1

It's just the feeling you get with most of them though. They don't draw attention to it quite as blatantly as Raab does.

No - are you? Grin

I was schooled at an internationally well-known and well-respected independent school. I'm definitely not intelligent enough to be Deputy Prime Minister etc.

There's no hope for Angela Rayner then.

Anybody who doesn't understand that word

I'm sure he does understand - but there are other considerations;

Could adding sex and gender to the crime bill be problematic?
The terminology around including misogyny in the hate crime bill has been debated in parliament. Hate crime laws traditionally protect minority groups, and minister Victoria Atkin asked if we would need to consider applying “sex” and “gender” to the entire population or just half of it?

She noted that great consideration was needed when creating new laws that would “would inadvertently conflict with principles of equality”.

Atkins noted in parliament in 2018: "We must be mindful of unintended and inadvertent consequences. I wonder whether hate crime legislation is definitively the best way to treat these crimes. Women are not a minority, and I would be hesitant to put us forward as one.”

According to some on MN the Tories are the only ones to vote for if you believe in womens rights

Unfortunately, the Conservatives are generally the best of a bad lot where women’s rights are concerned. Take that as you will.

Blah blah blah cut'n'paste twaddle.

Dominic Raab, Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor, appointed by our Prime Minister Alexander de Pfeffel Johnson, doesn't understand the meaning of the word misogyny, doesn't know that the crossing between Dover and Calais is important to our trade and thinks that 'taking the knee' is a reference to Game Of Thrones.

He is thick. No matter what you cut'n'paste to distract from it, he is still thick.

FatFredsFriedEgg · 06/10/2021 19:44

I'm sure he does understand - but there are other considerations;

Anybody who watched the slightly vacuous BBC presenter interviewing the thick Dominic Raab this morning would be clear that he fundamentally misunderstood the meaning of 'misogyny'.

MissChanandlerBong81 · 06/10/2021 19:46

That's just Cut'n'pasteova trying to divert the issue. This thread isn't about his complete stupidity over understanding the symbolism of 'taking the knee'. It's about his new demonstration of his complete stupidity.

Oh I agree. I was just responding to a poster who was trying to downplay his display of ignorance in relation to taking the knee. And it’s worth remembering it’s a pattern of behaviour for him.

I'm glad you are accepting of the idea that you are paid to post on here. It would be interesting to learn by whom and for what purpose.

I was a scholarship student as it happens. My father died when I was young and we wouldn't have been able to afford it otherwise. Thanks for your concern though.

FatFredsFriedEgg Anybody who watched the slightly vacuous BBC presenter

I think I was very clear. In my opinion she's slightly vacuous (which is acceptable as a second-string BBC presenter) but still more intelligent than the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor Dominic Raab - who is obviously thick.
nosafeguardingadults · 06/10/2021 20:10

Doesn't matter if new law or not cos laws meant to protect women get broken all the time and noone cares nothing done. No point new law when laws already here ignored and broken.

Domestic violence murders lots happen cos nowhere safe for victims to go to live. Councils already is law they house victims but lots break the law and no-one cares nothing done. Solicitors all say they full capacity as soon as they know you legal aid. Domestic abuse help is postcode lottery. The way some places behave when you need help domestic violence is worse psychological abuse than the domestic violence. People saying all the murders is cos of police not true. Maybe sometimes but more cos nowhere safe for women to go to live after refuges. Police not relevant cos no way telling police truth cos not their fault but violent men arrested doesn't help domestic violence victims be safe permanently safe.

As far as I know neither of them earn a living from cut'n'pasting irrelevant twaddle on a parenting forum.

Thick as.
When the first comment says it all.
Rosesareyellow · 06/10/2021 20:22

It kind of reminded me of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s homophobic fail by saying gay marriage should be between a man and a woman… except that was obviously a slip of wording whereas what Raab said was genuinely what he meant to say Confused

Clavinova · 06/10/2021 20:24

Ah yes - Labour want to abolish those as well. Keir Starmer's school converted to an independent school a couple of years after he joined - the local authority paid his fees I believe.

I wouldn't know, nor am I interested. If this thread was about the education system or the Labour Party that might ne relevant.

This thread is about the fact that the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor doesn't understand the meaning of the word 'misogyny'.

Nothing you can post will change that. He is thick.
